    You failed to mention the whole reason why the Raiders hired Jon Gruden in 2018. He was the Raiders head coach from 1998-2001 and was responsible for completely turning the franchise around and back to their winning tradition. BACK TO BACK AFC west championships and an AFC championship game appearance. They won a 3rd AFC west title the year he left still running his offensive system and had the #1 ranked offense in the NFL and QB Rich Gannon also won league MVP and the Raiders made it to the super bowl. Jon Gruden was responsible for the most success and relevance for the raiders in many years and they only had 1 playoff appearance since that super bowl loss in the 2002 season prior to resigning him in 2018. As a bay area native and 3rd generation Raider Nation I didn't agree with resigning him in 2018, I thought they should have stuck with Jack Del Rio but I understand why they did it. That was a major factor that you completely left out of this video

      Raiders have been League Villains since the 1960s one of the oldest franchise in the NFL. Also NFL was also a "white only" league before we know it as of now. Al Davis and the Raiders put a end to that having a mixed team of players and also formed AFL later on after Davis won a case against NFL they merged after that they had it out for Raiders. Stupid simple calls and the famous "Brady forward pass" aka The Fumble was just a fraction of the thorn on the side of our Franchise. So thier some history for you that's why the other teams don't compare to hypocrisy of the NFL we are the first to be rebels and went against the standards of NFL.

      @@reupforthebetter2417 a really good kicker is an EXCELLENT use of a 1st round draft pick. A helluva lot of games are won or lost by one field goal.
      They almost never get hurt, so you can count on them doing their job week after week, year after year. The really good ones, like Seabass, can be your leading scorer for decades. Seriously, go look at a list of top all-time scorers in the NFL... there's a whole lot of kickers on that list, ahead of a whole lot of superstar HOF qb's and receivers and backs. That's a pick very well spent for a guy at Janikowski's skill level.
      And kickers do not demand anywhere near the same kind of money as receivers or QBs or even running backs. Most of them are making about the league minimum, under 700K. Very few make over a million a year. The very highest paid kicker in NFL history is only getting about five million a year last I checked. Compare that to what a good QB or receiver wants in his first real contract, or sometimes even in a rookie deal... it's a true bargain.

    Listen Mike, I love Al for his personality and what he stood for and for being a Raider. But the stories I heard of how he treated his own son was pretty crazy. He didn't even want his son on the same airplane as the team. I feel like they had a love hate relationship. So it's no surprise when mark got the team he didn't know what he was doing. Cuz AL never taught him. It's remarkable how far mark has came from just starting to now. And how much love he still had for his dad despite the shiit AL did

    • @eleven8948
      @eleven8948 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe his son was not showing any interest in being involved with the day to day operations and only wanted to use it as a personal piggy bank. If he was truly interested he would have jumped in from the get go regardless of experience. I think it speaks volumes that he is now getting involved and it seems to be that his piggy bank may be running out of cash would be the reason. Even if he sold the team, he would probably lose out due to the huge debt on the new stadium and running costs. My 2 cents

      @@eleven8948 ya I can see that too. Maybe he lost his love for the team or football since his dad pretty much hated him. Plus doesn't help when the Commissioner and some owners wanted to take the team away and tear down what his dad build only one yr after he passed away. I also think the gruden hire was a good thing to despite the outcome. You can see he fell right back in love with football when gruden came back. The guy is one hell of a motivator. I think that was around the time he started to become more hands on with the team. He had to get his shitt together for reals especially when he was lookin 2 relocate. Mike says in the video towards the 2000 Al was losing it. You don't think the office staff that Al picked out were as bad as his picks?? Within the last 2yrs mark finally took charge and cleaned out the final parts of the last saga of the Al Davis Era. Mark has brought in more revenue within these last 2yrs then Al did in his life.

      Gruden was just lucky to be there at the right time. The Bucs team was built by Tony Dungy who built one of the best defenses. @@504boy9 I agree but gruden play calling was questionable at most. While his offense was decent and it works, he would always fall short bc the defense such as the ravens & patriots in the afc championship games would figure it out by then. That’s why they always they scored twice only 3 pts in an AFC championship game. The team was solid but Al Davis wanted more vertical pass play and they prob got into it and that’s why he was traded before his new contract. This video kind of just shows that the raiders were broke and didn’t want to pay Gruden top money. He does a good job as a coach, there is no denying but I think his biggest issue is that he doesn’t adapt. Going to the last couple seasons w the raiders, he would always struggle later into the season bc other teams would figure him out by then. I’m a raiders fan btw and I wasn’t a fan of his signing but at the same time I do believe he did change the culture in a better way. As far as the Raiders missed electricity payment I think it’s probably much to do about nothing, it was temporary offices that they were renting and they probably thought it was included in the rent or something, while that’s embarrassing I doubt there are any nfl owners who check to make sure the electricity bill was paid, just another example of why Davis had to clean house. And as far as Kaplan getting fired didn’t he request family leave and also say he didn’t think he could continue to put in the hours necessary to do his job. When he FINALLY got around to writing a plan for the team he actually had, not the fantasy team in his head that he wished he had, he went to "just run straight ahead all the time no matter what, especially when it's clearly not working at all." What the hell happened to the guy who was supposedly an offensive light-the-field-up genius?
      Now that he's gone we find out that he'd already lost most of the locker room, not holding the lazy guys accountable but also working everyone half to death in practices, which is just plain stupid.
      Gruden let his "toughguy genius" image of himself dictate how he ran the team. And it just did not work.
      Regardless of the off-the-field stuff, I'm sooooo glad he's gone.

      Yep. We're talking about billion-dollar corporations. All that shady shit happens all the time. It's just that most big corporations aren't under any media scrutiny at all, and they don't have a league that's trying like hell to take their business away from them. Most NFL owners are part of a sort of "good old boys club" that clearly despises Mark Davis just for existing.
      So every little thing about the Raiders' org or Mark himself is blown out of proportion.

I get much of the details here are bad, however if you read between the lines our beloved Raider nation is run better and correctly when a Davis is fully aboard and hands on! Mark is getting there finally, if you look into all the facts, it's no wonder he had no clue and didn't even know where to start since he was always alienated and shunned when Al was alive! The time period in question is mentioned often here, after Al's passing (RIP AL) and before Mark truly stepped into the role he needed to be in.

    Yeah, I have to agree Mike, that Jon Gruden signing was a reach for sure (and a massive mistake). Like you said, Jack Del Rio was doing a good job. Yeah, the defense sucked but that was due to a lack of talent at key positions and a mediocre defensive coordinator. That wasn't on Del Rio. He wasn't perfect of course but he was far better than Gruden was.
    But yeah, the team has been dysfunctional for a long time. I'm not surprised Mark Davis has been doing shady things. Then again I'm sure most NFL owners have a lot of shady dealings going on.

    Mike this is you jumping the shark 🦈. Comparing the raiders to the commanders under Dan Snyder is freaking hilarious. Also your lack of knowledge of employment law and salary and wage law is fairly hilarious. Mike California and Nevada have different laws about overtime so it’s unsurprising given how many issues all California employers regarding employment taxes and employee versus independent contractor standard.
    I am not saying the raiders don’t have legal problems but they did change states with completely different rules. You don’t seem to understand all the nuance with legal issues especially involving the employment law. Lastly settlements undoubtedly involved insurance companies with their own agendas and priorities being settled as such. Determine wrongdoing simply because of some labor settlements is pretty amateurish. Lawyers don’t draw such conclusions nor when a NDA may or may not be valid. In fact depending on a state and change of laws typically a NDA is void of no fault of the employer.

    • @thefelonattorney
      @thefelonattorney 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also given the change of jurisdictions from a state with the largest state income tax to one without any state income tax it’s more than understandable withholding issues would arise. This isnt a demonstration of poor management necessarily. While I worked for the EDD one of the worst and most sited businesses was Samsung who I handled personally for EDD. They over paid penalties simply because their bookkeepers were directly from Korea and didn’t understand California employment taxes and refused to do so. Samsung isn’t corrupt just different. You haven’t made the case you think you have. And remember Jack Del Rios raiders team completely fell apart by the time he left. They were mid level, Gruden didn’t hold anyone back and was the reason they had as much success they did in 2021.

    Even in death, Al Davis' shadow continues to plague the Raiders. I really mean no disrespect here, but Al clearly did not plan for a future without him. Say what you want about Jerry Jones, but at least he is grooming his oldest son Stephen to take over the Cowboys, since Stephen was the one who helped build that offensive line, and more famously, prevented his father from drafting Manziel. In contrast, Al and Mark did not have a good relationship, putting it diplomatically, and this partially contributed to Mark being so hands-off with football operations, and in turn, letting questionable influences into the house his father built.
