@@Moleskineman In my opinion, there were more chemistry between Birchall and Barker than Birchall and Bomba. John Shannon and Michael were musically unbeatable :)
that drummer with that bass player are sooo much missed by me in the band ... ... don´t know why john butler switched them for recent, not so much technically good two guys that replaced original members.
I'm followin these guys for a next week month up the east coast, going alone bc none if my friends give good music a chance, it's going to be fucking epic, gunna get funky EVERY night
I don't like this arguing over who's the "best" guitarist in the world. Yes, John Butler is amazing, and he makes great music that reaches audiences all over the world. Jimi was revolutionary, and also an amazing guitarist. But music isn't a competition. As a musician myself, I can't stand this "who's the best" arguing. Just say that the music is great, that the musicians are talented and are good at doing what they love to do, and enjoy!
i wouldn't say he's a shit lyricist. he's very straight forward- yes, but that's the point. he's not trying to use poetry to convey a point as Dylan did. he's just trying to open the conciousness of a people that have long since lost their will to think outside of the box. he uses very simple words, phrases, and imagery, to accurately describe the problems/good things about the world today. so is he a poet on the level of dylan? of course not. but his lyrics are meaningful nonetheless.
@Ibanez3789 Yeah right you are! Question: Do you like Satch? :) I like JBT, I like Satriani, I like Tommy Emmanuel etc etc, it's all great music, so really no point in saying someone is best. I like this, you like that, come on people, it's like saying stew's better than Goulash. I like both :) respect from Budapest!
@Ibanez3789 I used to think the Edge is the best guitar player. Now I think he's friggin good at what he does. So is Butler, Tommy Emmanuel, Joe Satriani.. they're all among my favorites. Still, I don't consider any of them better then the other. So yes, I guess you're right, it's not a competition.
go see him in person and he'll change not only your opinion of him but possibly your life...his lyrics if you listen to them are extrodinary...i know that's my opinion but i've seen him in person 4 times now and he's by far the best i've heard
Greatest Aussie musician ever.. And yeah it is a 5 string, pretty sure its a stingray. But i beleive it is strung to a half an octave above the usual, Keep it up mate come visit us in broome again, i missed u ter other day =[
@Ibanez3789 although.. i would like to say, that John butler doesnt get enouhg recognition for his guitar skills, although i know he wouldnt care about that, he is all about the message he is trying to get across and stuff...
i was just listening to ZUP playing this song (great hungarian cover band btw - th-cam.com/video/QNnT2MU8IEc/w-d-xo.html), and i did'nt know what they are playing. i said: wow. what's this? then i found jbt. sooo awesome!
BTW...some of his songs are just for the instruments and not so much what he's saying in his songs...listen to the lyrics for zebra and used to get high...his brand new song has some good lyrics that goverments should listen too
@beardown091 I have been to see him many times I loove his music but was just expressing an opinion about the simplicity of his lyrics- however fair doos and all points taken from above.
OMG John Butler is fucking amazing, John Butler Trio was one of best things i discorvered when i was in Austalia, I havent heard anything but them since i got home, i'd travel back to AU just to see them live XD
If you ask me, this was the best Trio :) He should bring these back :)
I dunno...I love the chemistry between Birchall and Bomba

@LSUsuperBuick And are you the ultimate decider of what sounds "cool" and what does not? Everyone's got their own idea of what cool is
@Ibanez3789
Well done bro, when i see that argument come up again i'll just quote your words, you couldn'tve said it any better :)
@LSUsuperBuick I think its brilliant - It shows what you can do with Electro-Acoustic Guitars, and he's definatley different :)
@lespaul817

This man is a contemporany new icon,like as Keith Richards, Clapton and Hendrix were in their time[...] And his band is very good too.
@Gehvoy687 actually its not the ORIGINAL trio... this was at least the third lineup JBT has had.
Thanks Randomshinythings! But actually I wondered where he performed in Antwerp, like blokhut73^^ said.
