I converted the MIDI version of "Decade" to an ensemble version for MapleStory 2 and played it. Personally, I feel that although there is a difference in tone, both the MIDI version and the MapleStory 2 ensemble version are enjoyable to listen to.
However, it was a very difficult task to create a rich 7-minute song for 10 people and fit it into a piece that is under 10,000 characters.

MapleStory 2's performance specifications do not include standard MIDI functions such as volume, expression, pitch bend, or reverb.
Furthermore, performance is limited to a maximum of 10 channels, including the drum part. The sheet music format is MML, and each part is limited to 10,000 characters.
These works have overcome the problem of how much expression can be achieved within these restrictions in every way possible. I hope you will enjoy playing them while keeping this in mind.

7分の曲を10人かつ10,000文字以内。絶対落とせないボーカルライン２本を基軸にどこを削ぎ落とすかですよね。。。うーむ

コメントありがとうございます。少し勘違いさせてしまっているところがあるのでちょっと補足です。
10人というのは使える楽器が重複含めて10個まで(MIDIのような途中で楽器を変更することは不可)、そしてそれぞれの楽器ごとに10,000文字までの制限があります。ファ#の16部音符であれば「F+16」と最長4文字使用します。
今回のDecadeではボーカル用に2種類の楽器をレイヤーで重ね合わせて音色を作っていますが、ボーカルが7000文字弱あってこれはまずい・・・となり、実際にピアノ・電子ピアノ・ドラムセットの3パートで文字数オーバーが発生しました。それぞれにMIDI版よりも和音を削る・リズムパターンを簡素化する・聞こえにくい音を削ってしまうなどの加工を施してあります。
しかも、メイプルストーリー2の合奏では使用できる楽器の音色も非常に少ないので(例えばシンセ系の楽器は使えないなど)、そこをいかにかいくぐって曲を作成するかという問題もあります。逆に言い方を変えればメイプルストーリー2版は音色がないからこの程度の演奏ですと逃げる事もできるけど、MIDI版は出来が下手なことに対して言い訳ができないという事にもなります。
どちらもなかなか奥が深くてやっていて面白いですが、どちらのバージョンも作成はなかなかに大変です。
