I used the term "Ligne Claire" incorrectly in this video. I had the term in my notes to say that James Stokoe is the OPPOSITE of ligne claire. Oops

Great video! I absolutely love Orc Stain - really hope Stokoe returns to that world soon. I have Wonton Soup in my to be read mountain and didn't realize it was so visually different. Looks a bit more generic indie cartoonist of the mid-2000s (sort of like comparing Brandon Graham's old and current work).

This was interesting 👍 I always assumed that you were an artist yourself. You come across as someone who actually realises that artists are people and have feelings, too. 😅 Like, I’ve never heard you just say “this art is crap” or “this art was awesome”, like many other comic reviewers on youtube. (Not throwing shade on other comic review channels).
Something I noticed about James Stokoe is that his older work had more of a thick uniform line when drawing objects further away in the background, such as mountains, etc. Whereas now I think it varies more (thick lines in the fore and mid grounds, and thin lines for the background). Also, I don’t think he uses a hunt 102 nib pen, because you never see the line weight go from thin to thick, then back to thin again in the same line…If that makes sense.
Thanks for all your videos! I enjoy them a lot.

Thank you for the kind words! The subjectivity of art is what makes it beautiful.
That's a good point about Stokoe's art changing, I'll try and remember that for Part 2.

Thank you so much for watching! I'm so glad that my comments on the art weren't offensive to a real artist since I have no artistic experience.

It can be hard these days to have a conversation or comment on something without offending someone… but I think you’re doing great. And art is supposed to spark conversation… so have at it! I’m loving these vids!

Actually the term “ligne Claire” can be applied. At least Orc Stain. Wonton Soup has all the halftone usage and that is the difference. One thing tha would’ve improved the reading experience was the printed size. Maybe an european album for instance

From what I remember ligne claire (clear line) means very easily visually read with very little shading and excess lines. Stokoe has so many unneeded lines and hatching I didn't think the term applied. But I could definitely be wrong. Definitely agree about the format, all of Stokoe's work should be oversized
