Interesting and I'm sure you're correct but I'm still a bit puzzled. I thought I would calculate the odds myself and what I did was to compare to a padlock with a combination of numbers that need to be correct in order to unlock it. Let's assume the padlock has three numbers you need to get right where each wheel has 10 positions (0-9). Meaning the correct combination to unlock the padlock is somewhere between 000-999. Meaning a total number of 1000 different combinations. Meaning your odds picking the correct combination if you get one single try is 1 out of 1000 (10x10x10). Now let's use the same logic for EuroJackpot and the first 5 numbers. We know each number can be anywhere between 1-50 vs 0-9 for the padlock and we have 5 of these we need to get right vs 3 for the padlock. Using the same logic to find out the number of different combinations to get the correct row of 5 numbers where each can be anywhere between 1-50, this would be 50x50x50x50x50 which equals 312.500.000. Using your method for the padlock, that would be 3/10, 2/9 and 1/8. Resulting in 6/720. Which in turn results in 1 out of 120. Which isn't correct since we know we have one chance out of 1.000 to pick the lock on the first attempt. Not one chance out of 120. I'm sure I have the explanation right in front of me, only I can't see it 😊 Edited to add, I do see at least one difference now which maybe is the answer or at least part of it, how you can reuse the same number in the example with the padlock. Which isn't true in the EuroJackpot example. Hmm...I feel how my head is about to start spinning so guess I should try to get some sleep instead 😂
Because of the used numbers will not use again and all the whole set of 2, 3,4,5 numbers together that will not be able to count with again. Ex 2,10,49 - 10,2,49 - 2,49,10 they are same and count just for 1 chance. And then you can not use 50 chances in 5 times it would be 50,49,48,47,46 due the rules that every number can be used once. My English is not very well but I hope you understand what I mean😊

Hi Mr Puzzle Man, thank you for explaining all the calculations in winning the various first divisions around the world. I was wondering if you could one day explain the odds of winning first division say in Australian Tattslotto using a "System 7" or "System 8" ? I would imagine your chances are a bit better than just selecting 6 numbers but I would like to know how much better with a detailed explanation/calculation ? I know you have a vid on "Abbreviated System 8 Calculation" but I am hoping for an explanation similar to the above.

So. Basically odds of winning are ca 0.00000008.
Then, you need to buy 10 000 000 different tickets to rise chances up to 0.8 (80%)
10 000 000 are 1/9 change of winnig genius....
so that means 10 million times 2 euro = 20 million in tickets, and then just wait for the jackpot to be over 20 million!!
I think the question to ask the guy is - has he won ?😂
