Stumbled across your VLOG. I really enjoy it. Your production quality is great and you have a nice mix of quality shots and personal story. My wife and I used to explore the outback 1996 - 2008 before "overlanding" became a thing. Then marriage, professional development & kids. Just now starting to get back into it as I want my kids to have my love of adventure and the outdoors. I appreciate that you are doing with this your kids. I have fallen in love with this development of an overlanding community and particularly appreciate it's inclusive ethos. I find your humble assessments and genuine appreciation of your travels to be captivating. Keep up the good work!
Just got back from Tray Mountain...I have a very similar build to you at the time you shot this (5th Gen, Off Road, 285 Ko2s, 3" OME lift). Other vehicle was a lifted F250 on similar tires. We approached from the East. We made the tough decision to turn around near the top. The road has washed out considerably since you were there and an even deeper rut with a muddy drop off on the ravine side has made this section quite dangerous without some serious winching skills. We thought that we might be able to get the Yota up but the heavy F250 seemed like a recipe for disaster. I can't speak to the approach from the west but descending from the top to the eastern side where we were would have been equally scary. Just throwing this out there for anyone considering Tray Mountain. Road is in serious need of a regrade. Love your videos, Jason.
I found your comment to be very helpful. My buddy and I plan to do the entire trek (from East to West) in early December. Tray Mt is my biggest worry. We'll be on a bit of a schedule so if we have to turn around and back track I'm afraid this could alter our plans. I also have a '18 TRD-ORP (285 KO2s, 3" ICONs, no winch tho) so hopefully the trail is in better shape now and I can scathe by. My buddy also have a F-250 that we are weighing on whether or not we should bring (or if he should just ride w me). His truck is not 4x4 and does not have locking diffs. Thank you for this information!
Good job man! Don't blame you for not trying that section. The increased anxiety from the kids and their expected comments/reactions would increase the stress level like crazy!
Haha! Indeed! I tend to be a little more conservative - why cause extra damage if it isn't necessary! Of course, no cell service, limited experience and no help - just didn't want to risk it! I'm planning another trip up there with support and we'll try some of the more challenging spots then!
I have the same truck and you deff made the right decision on that trail toward the end. I'm going to put some work into mine coming up to make it a little more capable but am just saving the money for it now. Did you wrap or paint the piece in the grill and under it? That looks nice like the TRD.
Jason, I think your family videos are great! I can't wait to take my boys out in Washington to explore and camp in the near future. We used to live in Georgia and checked out Tray Mountain Trail outside of Helen, GA for a day. I wanted to suggest a piece of gear for your load out. I noticed your 12 cans of Coleman disposable propane. Have you considered investing in a refillable propane tank? I personally use a "Worthington 299494 6-Pound Aluminum Propane Cylinder With Type 1 With Overflow Prevention Device Valve". Filling it runs around $25 but is slim enough to pack just about anywhere. Can't wait to see more of your videos, happy traveling!
This is a spectacular suggestion, thanks! This will definitely be on my list for the next cold weather trip! If/when we get a trailer, I had planned on getting a regular cylinder, but didn't think to search for something more slim-line like this! This is fantastic! Good luck on your adventures and keep us posted!
Great job. Cannot believe the size of that tent! it's awesome but a beast. one bit of advice, keep the food out of the tent. if anything, just to keep the critters away.
Heyo! Thanks! It IS a beast! Totally hear you on the food! We kept dry goods that were packaged with us, in sealed boxes, but the cooler always spent the night on the other side of the campsite. :)
Haha. Definitely. BUT that being my "first" obstacle, lol, knowing what I know now, I should have just kept my line straight and none of this would have been an issue!
having binge-watched your channel over the weekend I see you've learned! Watching you in Moab I kept re-hearing your trepidation with things earlier - this sounds weird...but...proud of you? is that the right sentiment? :)
Late to the party, just saw your post on Expo and catching up on the videos. Good on you for not trying something you weren't comfortable with. Give it a year, then go back to that spot and you will laugh at yourself for not doing it!
Where is this? I live in Asheville nc(from Georgia) and i'm looking for some off road routes. I drove old nc 105(1238) yesterday. Very pretty, good for a night or two in the woods with some great hikes/views.
This is up the west side of Tray Mountain. Check out www.georgiaoverland.com/the-georgia-traverse.html for details on the Georgia Traverse - that guy is awesome - anything you can do to support him will go greatly appreciated!
My TRD Pro is significantly larger than my Jeep was and last weekend in broken bow It was scratch a tree or fall into a 5 foot deep ditch and roll. lol Great video though man! I love the T4R! You've got the right tires for offroading, and you'd be amazed at what they can actually do, i'm not sure if you've got a lift of not, it looks like a limited with some mods.
I've got the trail model with a 3" lift. Been super happy with it. Short of having it up a little higher with 35's, there hasn't really been many places I haven't been able to go!
6:37 You don't feel it, you don't do it, but I bet, a buddy with another truck, towing straps, you would hahaha Great Vlog, really enjoyed it, thanks for sharing this nice adventure!
Good family time right there!! Trading in my 16 Tacoma for a new 4Runner in a couple days. absolutely love the Tacoma but the 4Runner is a much better family vehicle, while still allowing you to keep it wild... as they say LOL
Yes indeed! My brother is in the same boat - has an awesome taco, does everything he needs, but the lack of climate controllability in the covered bed makes it difficult in a family. This is the exact reason I got a 4runner instead of a Tacoma! You're gonna love the 4Runner!
And also in TRUE CASEY NEISTAT tradition, you have a reckless regard for your possessions. HA! So funny when the horn went off when you panicked through that hole. lol
Natural Gallant Bodybuilding Weeellllll. I think I have a slightly higher regard for my stuff. BUT if you're always afraid of breaking it, are you ever using it to its fullest potential? When I came off that stump and was modulating the brakes as well as the accelerator, I ended up hitting the brakes and my forearm hit the horn. Haha.
I think if you enabled the A-Track with a Slow Crawl... She would have pulled herself out much easier. Look at Videos OnLine, the TRD 4-Runner goes through a lot worse
Jason, hope you don't mind me writing you through your TH-cam Vlog but let me be totally honest, you guys are awesome. I am not from here, actually, I am from Venezuela south America. I have been 4wheeling all my life I now that I have kids and living in Houston Texas I would like to start going out more and showing my kids and family the beauty of America, I don't want them to grow up just knowing the concrete jungle, I want them to have the entire experience. finally I was able to afford to buy a 2016 4Runner (always had LandCruiser) and I setting it up to be a much more off road SUV with ARB after market toys. I would like you to share with me (If you happened to know) few places where to camp, hick, be outdoors and have that nature experience here in TEXAS. Are you knowledgeable of any routs and camping places or websites I can visit to plan a future trip. Please, Whenever you are around Katy, Texas let me know we can have a get together, thanks in advance. CARLOS MUJICA GUEVARA
I have the same truck that you have and these videos are inspiring me to get into overlanding!! Thank you and keep up the great work!
Haha thanks! I'm constantly inspired by so many great guys on here and Instagram! DO IT!
Love the family outing. I'm getting a late start as my kids are older but love the inspiration!
Thanks! NEVER too late to start adventuring!

Really like your style, it reminds me of Neistat.
I plan to do the Georgia Traverse late June, any advice?
I have the same truck and you deff made the right decision on that trail toward the end. I'm going to put some work into mine coming up to make it a little more capable but am just saving the money for it now.
Did you wrap or paint the piece in the grill and under it? That looks nice like the TRD.
jason jemiola Thanks! Yea, glad I went with the trail too! 😜 The front bottom piece is the TRD Pro garnish. The upper middle part is plastidipped.
The new 4runner TRD crawl control feature would've really helped in that situation.
You have awesome video editing skills! That looks like an awesome trip you were able to do with your family. Our trucks are awesome. #Team4R
Dude love your vlogs keep making these!
Thanks! haha! LOVE your truck and your videos! Congrats on starting a vlog as well! More to come!

HOW DOES THIS CHANNEL NOT HAVE MORE VIEWERS OR SUBS?!?!
singletrackftw haha. Just getting started!
Great job. Cannot believe the size of that tent! it's awesome but a beast. one bit of advice, keep the food out of the tent. if anything, just to keep the critters away.

How do you like those KO2 tires and what size are they?
Your braver that I am, my truck is babied. Love the videos though, keep it up.
Found this channel last night, watched up to this point. Very well done from editing/content/music, great job. Look forward to the rest
You probably need the steel bumper on the back if you want to do that again.
Haha. Definitely. BUT that being my "first" obstacle, lol, knowing what I know now, I should have just kept my line straight and none of this would have been an issue!
hearing your kids say "never again" makes me giggle, Situations like that are what going offroad is all about.
Um, maybe a dumb question but what did you do for drinking water on this trip?
Haha. Not dumb at all! We had a ton of bottled water (not idea, I know) in our cooler, and we also had a 4 gallon tank on the roof.
what size tires at those ko2's?
I really really like you facing your skillset and owning whatever level of a driver you happen to be. Encouraging. You're doing it the right way!
DetroitDarin thanks! I've come a long way since this point. That's the best part about DOING! You LEARN!
having binge-watched your channel over the weekend I see you've learned! Watching you in Moab I kept re-hearing your trepidation with things earlier - this sounds weird...but...proud of you? is that the right sentiment? :)
DetroitDarin haha. I've gone back and watched some of the older ones as well. Interesting to see the progress!
Late to the party, just saw your post on Expo and catching up on the videos. Good on you for not trying something you weren't comfortable with. Give it a year, then go back to that spot and you will laugh at yourself for not doing it!

What roof rack do you have on-top?
Thomas Horton It's the K9 rack from Eezi awn.
Thanks, keep the vids coming!!

Family road trips are best, the kids seem to love it. Where is the wife? Make it a full family trip.

I love seeing this (getting out with your family and kids into nature) man, keep it up bud! ( Anthony - Generation Overland)
Anthony Thorn Thanks man! Just followed you on Instagram!
Thanks! I just followed you on YT :) Check your FB messages etc.

May I suggest joining a local to you off-road club? They will be able to instruct you on proper off-roading techniques.
Good suggestion!
LoL. You’ve come a long way since this video. 👍🏻
You are wise not to try it if you are that uncomfortable with it. Like you said, gotta think of the kids too.
"We might need to call a tow truck" Nahh! It's a Toyota!
And typically tow trucks are Ford's or Rams ........
Well, at 1:30 your kids solved the lack of toilet paper problem that plagues many campers. lol
Time for armor & lift.
“Daddy it’s breaking”. 😬. Also, “your mother is gonna kill us”. I can relate
And also in TRUE CASEY NEISTAT tradition, you have a reckless regard for your possessions. HA! So funny when the horn went off when you panicked through that hole. lol

I can't imagine putting all that up and putting all that away....
Nice 4runner.
Ahh looks like your rig got another battle scar :-) thats what they are made for...
rear bar protection
Daddy stop it's cracking then the boy We might need to call a tow truck like wtf 😂
trade the rear bumper for a tow truck !
I always enjoy your vid.

Love these!! Keep em coming! (I'm @rambletrekk on insta by the way :)
Thanks!! They're super fun to do and keep me motivated to be looking for adventure!
Good Vlog interesting but find better music.
Bigfoot going to get you !!!
That music is ridiculously infantile. Very obnoxious.
Like your videos but please step away from Casey style and do your own.
just stop watching then.
Can't even go over a pebble without being concerned then don't go off-roading
B Blue um... 🤔
