  • Hi everybody! Today I replaced rear ball joints (Wheel Carrier), integral links + bolts in both sides of my BMW 5 series (E39). I used a Lemförder kit that I just bought at Ebay. This is not the kind of a begginer´s procedure. Anyway I hope It helps. Any questions or comments please let me know.

    Just completed rear suspension overhaul myself. Fun times, NOT! Lol. Luckily I bought a proper ball joint tool that made replacement a breeze. Though those little clips are a bit stubborn to remove. Not fun putting the swing arm back up with the integral link either. But patience is a virtue. And the results are beyond worth it. Good work on your video my friend 👍

    Thanks for the honest and informative video. I picked up good information that I didn't get in other videos. I too had to drop the swing-arm completely to get the right angle to line up the integral arm. But I fought like a SOB to try to get the inside bushings of the swing arm to get them in position for bolting. I see that you, smarter than I, figured that by pulling the bottom of the swing-arm towards the outside, got you in position. It didn't look easy, but a lot easier than what I did. I was not able to finesse them in the way you did. Good on ya'. Thanks again. Cheers.

      I just wanted to add that I finally got under the car to finish the job. Getting the trailing arm around the integral link was the nightmare du jour. But once I did that, and used your technique for getting the inside bolts of the swing arm in place, I had success. Pulling out, or pushing, as I was under the car using my leg and knee, the bearing carrier, etc., was definitely the way to go. Many, many thanks.

    Thanks for the quality video! The other DIY videos are so nauseating with poor lighting, your video shows exactly what needs to get removed and the torque specs. How applicable is this to an E53? Pretty sure my rear lower ball joints is toast because the rear end is so loose and making a clunking noise.

      @TheultimateDIYmachine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, this DIY is pretty much the same on E53 model and maybe E38, E36...only torque specs may vary from E39, but I’m sure getting those specs online is not a problem nowadays, isn’t it? Thank you so much Dave! 👍🏻

    Man I have been trying to get my rear sway arm back on and have just been struuuugggling. I’m approaching it the way you did at this point with the arm fully disconnected but I cannot get the subframe side bushings aligned. Did you just muscle it in or was there a trick to finally getting it?

    • @TheultimateDIYmachine
      @TheultimateDIYmachine  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, this job is a nightmare. Sway arm is a little stubborn to get in the right position…but no tricks, just remember, patience is power 💪🏼 Good luck!

    Looking for a video from you how to replace rear and front coil overs on e39

      @TheultimateDIYmachine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed I uploaded three videos showing you how to replace rear coil overs. The front ones are easier to replace but I didn’t make a video yet. Thank you so much for your support Gabriel!

    Nice video! One question, I saw other videos people did not loosen up the alignment bolt to change ball joint, why did you do it?

    • @TheultimateDIYmachine
      @TheultimateDIYmachine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I did that way because it was impossible for me to reinstall the new ball joint (align the long bolt was a PITA) without loosen the alignment bolt. Way more easy for me this way (without a lift and no help).

    Where did you get that special tool to remove and install the ball joint? I tried local part stores but the cups in the kit did not fit. Thank you for your help.

      Hi again! I bought it at eBay (UK), it’s kinda homemade tool. I just checked it, but unfortunately that item isn’t available anymore...

      Y drive e39 15 years now, the best thing to do is replace all arms, and all rubbers, and suspension, you do this once with quality parts , no ebay ATP from germany ,but lemforder (OEM mount) or Febi/ Moog ,
      Its always the same , when this balljoint is dead the rest is nearby dead too

      I think meyle HD is also very good i used it before but normal meyle is crap...also never buy a waterpomp from meyle...the bearing fails very fast
