      pretty sure a lot of the script has been appended by Filipinos themselves as its mostly a Filipino cast and thats what we see on film. in fact the Chinese writers based the script on Joe's life and stand up gigs.

      This movie was heavily promoted. They even had a “Family Fued” episode where it was Jo Koy’s family versus his family from the movie. Despite all the marketing, it bombed at the box office. Hollywood won’t give him another chance, but, hey, Jo Koy can always go back to selling out arenas.

    To my fellow Filipinos who might get offended or might have something negative to say, please keep it to yourselves. Let Jo Koy have this. He's telling the story as a "half Filipino" because that's what he is. He won't get everything right or perfect but that's not what the movie is all about. Everybody needs to have some light comedy these days. Easter Sunday is exactly that.

      In order to open a movie with commercials showing on all the major networks 24/ 7 and local stations, the studio(Universal) spends as much as $100 million. This was a big movie. It was promoted heavily, but the timing was a big mistake. It went up against “Bullet Train.”

    It's about time this type of films are shown in theaters. We are at the time of our lives where diversity represent all kinds of ethnicity like Filipinos. There were many movies involving Asian movies that are merely Chinese, Japanese, Hindus, Koreans, and more but never a film about Filipinos. Hopefully it does good reviews, so Filipinos can flourish more in the future.

    I'm Filipino, and listening to Joe, is like my up bring. A lot of his joke, is so real, that its really not a joke. It's really how my parent raised me. My dad is pure Filipino(ilokano)I think it's how you spell it. My mom is Hawaiian. My dad use to talk to us, and wanted to really teach us the language, but hard headed, no listen. Mom use to do the same with the hawaiian language too, but po' o pakiki, means hard headed too. I know some, but not fluent. But anyway, Bradah Joe is the best! Way to go Joe! I cant wait to watch the movie Easter Sunday. Take care, and stay cool. Aloha! From the Big Island of Hawaii. West side🤙

    It's great to see myself represented on the silver screen in a non-caricature way and be seen as human being with depth and a complexity. A family comedy is a great way to show that to the American public.

    Oh, by the way...That "product" was a fundamental part of every white, black, or "evidently" asian childhood in the USA for decades. My mother even put it into a heated vaporizer every night, all winter, so my poor sister could choke on it. My eyelashes were coated with it every morning. I believe the cough syrup I secretly bought and slipped to my sister in the middle of the night might have helped her congestion a little. Coastal Virginia is hard on a child's lungs in the winter...with poor heating. I used to wash the "product" off her chest every morning before school so the other children wouldn't make fun of her. Go see Wanda Sykes take on this. She is brilliant, too. Thank you, Jo Koy, for reminding us all good mothers are the same: fierce, so that we may learn to flourish in a difficult world, and yet know love.

    This is the kind of movie that literally is on a loop playing in the background at every family get-together. You walk to the buffet, stuff yourself then follow the sound of laughter - there they are; kids, teens (and their friends), parents, grandparents, and neighbor or two yucking it up!

    I haven't watched a movie in the theatre /Cinema but I am going out to watch this movie!!!. So i went and watched the movie and I loved it! i think the subject is universal because it is about family dynamics so it is very relatable across all nationalities and cultures! We just have different accents and different expressions. But the problems are the same: jealousy, sibling rivalry, generational gaps, etc, etc. The movie was too short , because i was enjoying it too much. . I think they should do a sitcom based on the ending. My favorite scene was the police encounter , but I enjoyed every bit of it. There should be a sequel and Joseph Jr. should be included in the cast. It must be so nice for the other actors to finally shout out to Hollywood that they are Filipino and no longer hide their identity Jo Koy, you deserve your success, you do not need to carry the whole country on your shoulders... that is too much burden to put on yourself. No one is asking you to do it. But I appreciate your love for the Filipino side of your family. Congratulations Jo Koy and family on your first movie.

    People might be expecting loads of laugh but hey before we go there we go to the "hugot" part where you get to see what's why behind the lite-hearted even hilarious nature of things Pinoy / Asian i.e.

    I like his spontaneous narration of real & common Filipino parental practices & traits … his facial expressions are funny even if he doesn’t speak…🤣🤣😂

    It's kinda surprising. This is the first time I learned that Tia Carrere is actually Filipino? All this time I thought she was Mexican.

    • @tessiebaello5822
      @tessiebaello5822 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So Tia is now acknowledging she is Filipino? Way back late 90's , early 2000's she was one of those folks denying her Filipino ancestry.

    Thanks for this interview of a great catalyst in American culture. The Philippines 🇵🇭 has a wide variety of talent, e.g. singing, etc.. But stand-up comedy? Wow! Thank you, Jo Koy! Mabuhay!
