  • This video is a showcasing and tutorial of a sound I designed from samples/recordings of boiling soup; it is controlled in realtime from the iPad using Kyma Connect and the Kyma sound design language. If you're a Kyma user you can follow along step-by-step and put the same values in your parameter fields using any sample you have. Further, if you have an iPad with Kyma Control or a Wacom tablet with 'touch' capabilities you'll be able to play the sound just as I have. If you're not a Kyma user, this might inspire you to become one or to try something similar with the tools you have available. The basic concept is applicable either way.

    Oh hey neat :)
I'm glad I found your channel through the kyma newsletter. Cheers.

@@SpectralEvolver ah, I'm still very much a fresh face newbie when it comes to Kyma.
I did the big "foliage trimming, what is it, how does it work, wait this isnt at all like maxmsp, oh ok I understand now, neat" work last year, then shamefully let the Kyma collect dust on my workstation.
I moved the paca to my bed side table last month and it was the best decision. Evening laptop learning is excellent.
So yeah, right now, still very much in the opening prototypes, looking into each ones, failing at vaguely changing bits of Capytalk, etc ....
So I'm super glad your channel exists :D I just saw the new video pop up, going to watch it now.
Ultimately I bought the Kyma for my post-production work (lots of animation) but right now it's more the fascination of new deep tools that keep me going.
      Cheers.

@@SpectralEvolver yeah, the "using everyday" advice is really great. I've been doing that, even just to hop in and take a 5 minute look at Sons du jour, it's definitely very pleasant as a continuous practice.
Cheers, I'll definitely have some specific question soon enough :D
      Thanks for making these.

Can I ask your signal chain or process for your vocoder voice that says "Spectral evolver" at the intro?

Hey! Thanks for the interest, and sure thing. I don't recall it exactly offhand though. Next time I have Kyma open I'll see if I can track it down.

I found the sound. It's hard to put into words here, but I recorded myself saying "Spectral Evolver" then did FilterBank Resynthesis and Vocoding. If you were to look at those prototypes in Kyma you could get close to this sound.
