    I followed along the entire time, pausing now and then. I did exactly what the instructions were, and I must have drilled slightly askew and now I think I ruined this beautiful lighter I just bought. The tip about the curved flint and being sure you drilled correctly would have been helpful BEFORE drilling. Can this be fixed? This would be my third Ronson that I got working, but instead I think I've destroyed it. Anything I can do?

    So, I have a question that I'm hoping you can help with. I've recently come across a Ronson lighter that's quite similar to this one, except with a wooden frame. I think it might be a table lighter or some variant of the adonis. The thing is, both the one I bought and another one they had at the same pawn shop (which I think might be the non-butane version of the same model) are lacking the flint spring mechanism and instead have the flint hole blocked off with a bit of flint seemingly just loosely inserted on top of whatever's blocking it and kept down by the flint wheel. I was wondering if you knew if this was intentional, if both lighters just happen to have some stuck flint in there, or if it's some kind of purposeful modification? And, would I be able to clear out the hole and use the flint spring mechanism from a Ronson Queen Anne I also bought, as they seem to be mostly using the same parts?

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The old flint has degraded and blocked the tube itself. This happens in 99% of old lighters that are left Idle with flint in the tube for any substantial amount of time. This particular video will show you how to disassemble the mechanism to clear the tube and how to put it back together. Queen Anne spring should work in your lighter.✌️

    My fulcrum screws seem to turn simultaneously when I try to take one off. I use 2 screwdrivers to take it of but only turns.Any ideas?

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience, about three quarters of the time you'll have to get a screwdriver on both sides of the lighter to get the fulcrum screw loose, otherwise it'll just spin. It takes a little patience but it is not that difficult to accomplish. Sometimes holding the other side with a finger or nail will be sufficient.
      Getting the screwdriver on both sides of the fulcrum screw is also easier on a table model like the Crown because it has a solid base to sit on and will not easily tip over. Hold the screwdriver in your palms and use a finger or two for support if you have trouble holding the drivers in the screw slots. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.✌️

    My son bought a lighter second hand. It is a Ronson table lighter with a Wedgewood case. He has cleaned it and taken out the old flint. It seems like the flint may be the wrong size? The striker wheel is clean and doesn't look worn but it doesn't spark. Any ideas?

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be several things, the least likely being wrong size flint. Regular Zippo, Ronson or most other common flint will work. It could be the mechanism has been reassembled incorrectly. Possible that the clutch spring has failed. Might even still have degraded flint partially blocking the flint tube. Can you see the flint making contact with the wheel?✌️

  • @lizardhollow
    @lizardhollow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi. Great video. Im still confused how to attach the clutch to the wheel. I seem to get the orientation wrong. Can you offer a suggestion? Thank you!

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not actually attached, just riding alongside it on the plane of the fulcrum. The fulcrum screw holds it in place, along with the gears and the rest of the mechanism. On Ronsons, the flat part of the clutch spring will be on top and the cutout to the back. If you have everything in proper place and it still won't strike, likely the clutch spring is worn out or bent out of shape.✌️

Once reassembled (and I think it’s right but in the video I can’t make out if it actually is or not, because at this exact moment we’re out of screen) it will move the strike wheel but not rotate after clicking.
