  • The Williams Lake Trail near Taos, New Mexico is a moderately difficult hike in the Wheeler Peak Wilderness Area. This 4.5 mile route winds steadily up the a mountain valley to the gorgeous alpine lake from which the trail gets its name.
Fresh snow had fallen just before our adventure, making this a truly special experience for myself, my husband David, and Jeff and Moe of "The Hiker Trash Husbands" fame on TH-cam.
Starting at the Taos Ski Valley, the trail meanders between the New Mexico high peaks and offers spectacular views from beginning to end. You begin in a dense pine forest and, as you clim higher up the valley, the views of the surrounding mountains get better and better.
As you get to the boulder fields, you know you are getting close to the lake. The view from the bowl where the lake sits is nothing less than incredible. It had just begun to freeze when we were there in mid-October.
Keep in mind, flatlanders, that this trail starts at 10,000' feet and ascends from there. The air isn't as plentiful at that elevation so a slower pace can be expected, but the views are well worth the effort.

This looked awesome. One of the best hiking/backpacking channels I've seen. Really high quality content and editing and you have a knack for making good videos

Is there a place like that in OK or is CO next up. Thanks

Colorado would be the closest thing with anything like this. Oklahoma is beautiful, but it doesn’t have any mountains that come even close to being as tall as the ones in this video.
