      Thank you and all who made the video. My favorite activities in Taos are art, yoga,meditation, hiking, culture. Taos is a days drive to two national labs and many scientists live and retire in the area, a very good area for the well educated free thinker. People are encouraged to be themselves in a quiet, calm way. Self promotion is not required. I love the flute music, really fits the Taos mood.

      @@barbaraolson600 Thanks for commenting, Barbara! My interests are similar. Especially good to get a general feel of the place. Yoga, meditation, beautiful indigenous culture, hiking...and, it seems like a refined, quiet setting. Can't wait to visit! Thanks!

    I am living overseas but I am from Taos. I was looking for A video to show people the town that I live in. This is the video I have been looking for. Thank you for posting. One quibble: Bearclaw and The Gorge are not quintessential Taos restaurants. In fact, they are considered duds by locals. Orlando’s Restaurant serves the best local Spanish food ( we don’t call it Mexican food as you called it your video. There is a difference as any local will tell you) . You might also try real Mexican food like the best fish tacos ever at the Guadalajara Grill.

    • @cindyblount8621
      @cindyblount8621 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, I've lived here around twenty years (which isn't long, lol: gotta know what 'local' means as a non-local: families here have centuries if not thousands of years of history!).....anyway: Orlando's for sure
      There's good ole Michael's Kitchen....
      Taos Pizza 'outback'
      & if want a brew pub: Eske's!
      Glad to see this was made in 2019 & still good vibes
      Taos has seen a downtown in the last 5-10 years
      So many local businesses & restaurants gone.....BNB type places ruining local housing, hotels shuttered & rotting...
      Taos has come through hard times before: may it survive again & maintain it's rugged beauty, eclectic character & creative soul with an eye to the deep traditions and heritage that make it unique!

    Very nice video, I'm from Pueblo Colorado been back to my home 18 months.
    I've been back to Taos at least 10 times pre covid. Lived there 6 plus year's and have so many wonder Family Friends there.
    Been to every place in your beautiful video and many other places not in your video.
    You had 4 days so it wasn't possible, nice job though. I lived in Ranchos De Taos 1 year then on Beautiful Burch Street 2 blocks from the Plaza. Not sure if you made it to El Monterey Selgrado but if not be sure and go next time.
    So happy to here you did go to the Beautiful Taos Pueblo, so many very close Family Friends that live there, I'm so Blessed to have been able to have free reign to go any place on the vast Taos Pueblo, so appreciative for my Taos Pueblo Family.
    Again thank you for your great video, brings me so many cherished memories.

    I'm from Taos! :D I've been living here most of my life, so it was neat seeing an outsider's perspective on this place. There are lots of great restaurants here that weren't mentioned in this video, particularly Michael's Kitchen (just north of Bear Claw Café), El Taoseño (just south of Albertson's), and The Alley Cantina (on the edge of the plaza). The calamari and the green chile cheeseburgers at the Alley are my personal favorites, and every time my grandma flies in for a visit, she takes us to El Taoseño so she can get a smothered burrito. If you're into nature, you should also check out the wetlands/nature walk at Fred Baca Park.
    Make sure to buy some green chile to take home too! Once you try it, you'll be hooked ;)

    Fantastic video on my favorite place in the US. You captured the soul of the town well. Your also correct in that there is so much more to see, especially outdoors activities. A trip up to Taos Ski valley to hike or mountain bike is a must, along with a stop for ice cream in Arroyo Seco art comunity. My only quibble is the food. New Mexican food is distinctly different from Mexican food. Check out the local favorites, Michaels Kitchen, Orlandos and Taos Pizza Outback.

    Working at the nearby Philmont scout ranch for several years, Taos was always THE place to go on our days off for all the reasons you mentioned, plus, may I add, the Black rock hot springs down along the Rio Grand, the awe inspiring, creative architecture of the Earthships, the view of MT. Wheeler from Arroyo Seco and of course the pueblo itself, free standing and continuously occupied since at least the days of Ghengis Khan! Great video though, and I can't wait for my next visit..

    • @Taosenthusiast
      @Taosenthusiast ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't see Wheeler Peak from Arroyo Seco. You're looking at El Salto or Taos Mountain in the foreground and Vallecito or West side of Lakefork / Kachina in background. Ironically, the only real view of Wheeler peak from outside the valley is out your way in the Moreno valley.

    I really like the narration and the way that you did this whole video. It looks like such a beautiful place to be. The way I came across this video is because my band and I just produced a song a few weeks ago called "Santa Fe, New Mexico", that has nothing to do with Santa Fe, other than the fact that it's a good place for lying low. I don't know if it is, though, but it certainly seems like a really cool place to come visit and hang out. BTW Please check out our song if you can. Just go the sleeping tiger icon and it will bring you right to it. We're a new band in Chicago, all our stuff is original, but this new version of this Santa Fe song may be my personal favorite.

    Great video. What is the song during the introduction?

      Hey, thanks for watching! That song is a piece I wrote for this episode - the guy you see playing flute was a local we met in the plaza, and I recorded a few minutes of him improvising. I took that recording, mixed it with some Native American drums I had sampled when we visited the Taos Drum Company, played and recorded some other elements (guitar, bass, keyboards, etc) and made that song. It's called 'Drums of Thunder'. I actually write all of the music for these films, often using sounds and street musicians we record while traveling in the places we visit. In any case, thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    Jacinda Oh, and don’t forget to go to churches it’s an old Adobe so it’s all cool like it feels like an air conditioner but it’s because of the adobe walls in the food is delicious at churches

    I love the pop-up book museum it’s pictures they look like pop-up books. I forget what it’s called but it’s the same concept as the museum but it has Papa pictures like are in a pop-up book but the pictures on the wall maybe some thing else with the museum is called as I’ve forgotten and where it’s located.

      Ha - no, that was featuring a few friends of mine. I wish I could play keys like that. I did engineer the session and mix though!

    Just a quick warning to people who haven’t visited northern New Mexico before-make sure to stay hydrated. This place is a desert. Not a hot desert like Arizona, but a cold high desert like Mongolia. It can be warm in the summer and absolutely freezing in the winter (Taos is colder than Chicago and Boston on average; winter nights are like Minnesota). The lack of humidity will dry your skin out, and the sun can be really intense. Early summer winds can bring dust storms.
    It’s a beautiful place to visit (and live), the town and mountains are lovely, but it can still be challenging because it’s a desert environment.

      Maybe “desert” was too harsh. Taos has a humid continental climate. It’s just, as someone who has lived in New England, it seems really, really dry and sunny.

    P.S. You don't have to be a golfer to enjoy the food at the Taos CC golf course, it is open to the public, a favorite destination when I'm in Taos.
