  • This is the review of my home gym power rack, the Rep PR5000 V2. I also compare it to its biggest competitor, the Rogue Monster Rack. I hope you find the review informative and entertaining.

    Extremely thorough review. I think I’m going to get the entry level Rep Apollo half rack. The thing I like most about that rack aside from the price, is the 3x3 uprights with 1” holes so if I ever want to upgrade my rack to a pr-5000, all the attachments would still work.

    I went with the PR4000 because I wanted the Westside hole spacing. I went with the 6 post with plate storage, sandwich J-cups, band pegs, and spotter arms in addition to the multi-grip chin up bar and swing down safeties and mine still came in at a little over $1700. Definitely less than an equally built rogue.

    Great review! I'm shopping for this right now, just trying to decide what configuration to get for my space, which is very limited. How are you finding the weight storage working out on your four post? I've been thinking 6 post, but if I could make weight storage work on a 4 post, that would be great for me money and space-wise! Am I right that you don't have it bolted? How are you finding it without the rear stabilizer or the front feet? It looked like yours doesn't have those (but it could have just been the angles in the video). I know Rep recommends them if you're not bolting, and I'm trying to figure out if I can get away without them. Thanks again for a great review!

    • @babygiantbarbell1014
      @babygiantbarbell1014  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Craig! So I have my weight storage strategically placed on my four post. I have my 45’s at the bottom of each upright for stability, and my change plates on storage horns bolted to my lower crossmembers. I have my 25’s on weight horns that are bolted to the top crossmembers. Only 1 set of 45’s are on each of the rear uprights, and I put those on the bar first when I bench to clear up enough space to bench without hitting the other stored 45’s. I do not deadlift in the rack. You are correct in saying I do not have it bolted nor do I have front feet or the rear stabilizer. I have the 6 pairs of 45’s stored at the bottom, and that makes it so heavy that I do not see the bolting or those accessories being necessary unless an accessory you are looking at requires the rear stabilizer. I do pull-ups at 260lb+ regularly, and it does not even flinch. I love this rack to death, and all the accessories that I have tried with the exception of the original matador dip bar (that comes almost unusable due to the tolerances in the mounting apparatus making it super wobbly) have been awesome and very quality. I am excited for you, so let me know if I missed any of your questions or if you have others!

      @shirokuro73 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@babygiantbarbell1014 Thank you so much for such a detailed reply, I really appreciate you taking the time to describe it all out! I'm finding it very hard to decide on which configuration I want, mainly due to the size of the room it will go in. It's a guest bedroom in an apartment. I just moved into this apartment 2 months ago. I've already bought good quality rubber mats, so that part is sorted. But the room is 100" wide by 136" long. If I put the rack in lengthwise, then 136" gives me plenty of space for weight storage, and accessories like the iso arms, which I would like to get later. And space to deadlift in front. But 100" is not a lot of clearance for an 83" bar. And if I put the rack in widthwise, then 136" is plenty of clearance for the bar, but leaves little to no room for attachments like the iso arms or the lat pulldown in the future. Might be do-able with a 4-post, but not with a 6-post. Aargh! I had a cheap dick's sporting goods bench/squat stand, but it broke during the move, which is what prompted my shopping for a proper rack. Taking up valuable floor space is also 2 plate trees, a preacher bench, and a pair of dip bars - all of which I want the rack to be able to replace, so I could get rid of them and reclaim the space. I can do 1-arm dumbbell preacher curls using my normal FID bench just fine, but I'm interested that they say the leg roller attachment can be used for preacher curls. I was considering the dip attachment for later too, but your impressions of that really give me pause!! It feels like several times a day I change my mind about which orientation and config to go with. At some point I need to bite the bullet!

    • @babygiantbarbell1014
      @babygiantbarbell1014  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shirokuro73 haha I completely understand the quandary! I would go 4 post at least to start if in the same position with that space in mind. I believe the lat/low row requires a rear base stabilizer also, so that is something you will need if you want the lat/low row. 4 post has worked well for me so far, but it is not the prettiest😅 and yea the matador dip bar is a no go from Rep. I would look at their drop in dip bars or a competitor if you are looking for a dip accessory.

    • @shirokuro73
      @shirokuro73 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@babygiantbarbell1014 I think you’re right, 4 post is sensible to start with. I could do weight horns similar to you. I don’t have a ton of plates so I’m sure they could fit around the rack somehow. I do want the accessories in the future, but most important is to have a setup which will allow me to perform the basic bench, squat, deadlift first! The problem with the PR-5000 V2 is the infinite options. For a techie like me, I agonize for days over specs when I’m shopping for a laptop for example, and this is exactly the same thing LOL. At some point I need to just pull the trigger!
