    My dad would have loved these before he retired. they would have been perfect for our road service boxes we had in the trucks.

    I only use magnetic sockets in certain situations. You have to be careful because the magnet can fall out over time. I had a magnetic spark plug socket that the magnet broke into pieces, luckily none of the pieces fell inside the combustion chamber.

    The 7mm magnetic socket is good for on the screws holding in GM instrument clusters.The 10mm works good for timing chain guide bolts.I have two Matco ADV sets in metric deep and shallow.Another way to keep the fastner in the socket if you don't have the magnetic sockets is put a small dab of grease in the socket.

      I've dropped some 7mm fasteners in those dashes for sure

    Pair those with some locking extensions and you’re all set.

    Thank you! I was trying to choose between a magnetic and non-magnetic set (much cheaper but fewer sockets), and you answered all the questions I had.

    I use the snap on one's daily 7mm 8mm and 10mm deep my only complaint is the spring on the 10mm keeps coming out but snap on replaces it if I lose the parts to put it back together. But I keep a sunex set shallow around for the weaker magnets.

    As with every magnetic socket holder I've seen my question is, how hard is it to get ground metal shavings out of that socket because it will happen?

  • @MOTODANS
    @MOTODANS 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Be curious to see how they last has a few magnetic sockets in the past just cheap ones mind you. Magnets fell out pretty quick they were just glued in. Be interested if these stand the test of time. If so may look at picking them up!

    I picked up magnetic socks in 1/4" & 3/8" shallow and deep through grey pneumatic, you are right about just needing the 1/4" I'm yet to even open the 3/8 "s and I bought them over a year ago. I love all the milwaukee lights, nice thing with all the new rocket lights you can use a battery or extension cord, the first generation were battery only and you could burn through a supply of batteries pretty quick.

    Might have to pick some up. My go to trick for getting a bolt to stay in the socket is putting some really tacky grease on the head of the bolt. Works pretty damn good usually.

    2 things i see 1 if you do not have the locking ext use some black tape to lock socket to ext idea 2 what about the magnetic inserts you can use in a regular socket then you could use them in the drive you choose or do they not have them anymore

    All my sockets can be magnetic. My main job is in I.T. when I replace netbook screens they use very small iridium magnets to hold the screen. I save them and place them inside a socket when I need to hold the fastener. The nice thing is they usually stay in the socket and aren't strong enough to stick the socket to fastener when I pull the socket off but strong enough ot keep the fastener in the socket .

    • @JRC54
      @JRC54  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the smaller the fasteners the better for magnetic sockets would work

      @@JRC54 Starter bolt 2008 Astra. The only way I could get to it was along extension from the front of engine. Looking down on the back side I used a shallow socket and my little magnet. Was able to run the bolt in by hand then finish it of with the 3/8 drive. Boom done magnet and drive stayed on extension and magnet stayed in socket.

    Not a massive fan of magnetic sockets. A bit of grease or roll stuck down side of the socket does the trick. Had a set of magnetic ones and they didn't last long. Good video keep them coming

    SnapOn makes a 3/8 drive 1” extension with a magnet on the tip so it makes makes your socket magnetic! I thought it was an awesome idea but a guy I work with had one and He gave it to me cuz I thought it was so cool but I’m guessing he gave it away because it Doesn’t work for crap! its honestly not strong enough but it is great concept! I love that Milwaukee light! The magnetic sockets going to 15mm in 1/4 almost makes it worth having on its own! You don’t see very many 1/4 sets that go past 12 or 13mm so that’s a score on its own!
