The piano chording is perfect. The drums are perfect. The bass is perfect, but Abbey's delivery is perfection

I find that Abbey's voice (i love her pure and soft) here is too forced. That song must be sung with more crystallinaty and purity. It's my opinion. Listen to Ella Fitzgerald when she sings it you can see the white snow and the midnight sun.

She was great in person. I saw her at the Blue Note many years ago. During the performance, some tourist, who was too busy stuffing his face to appreciate that a legend was singing, kept saying to his wife, "The fries are really good... Have you tried the wings? They're very good, too," etc. Abbey, stopped singing, stared at the wall in front of her, and said, "I could be elsewhere. I have better things to do than waste my time up here. I might as well leave right now. Sir, are you enjoying your fries?" Oh man, she let that idiot have it. The audience was terrified that she was going to walk out, but she continued, and was great. I didn't hear a peek out of that tourist again that night.

The attribution for this work is incomplete. The music was by Hampton and Sonny Burke. The lyric came somewhat after the event - the piece was already out as an instrumental - penned by Johnny Mercer. It's irksome to me as a musician to see slack attributions like this. The performers at the very least should have caught the crediting gaffe and insisted it be corrected to Hampton/Burke/Mercer (since the latter's lyric is performed here). Just... eh... wake up, or get out of the biz.
