The flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long. I miss your monthly updates. Shine above with your beloved stars, Alyn. Your videos remain an inspiration for us. Good Luck and Clear Skies.
I miss your videos sm. It still feel surreal that i will never be able to watch new videos from you and its heartbreaking cuz i would always wait for witns and other updates from you. Truly such a talented star, you are greatly missed. I hope you are in peace, wherever u are. Shine among the brightest stars alyn ❤️

Southern Lights before Christmas (2023) were seen 33S, in Blayney NSW. This is a long way north to be seen, considering Auckland NZ is 36S. The colours were yellows, reds and purples.
Hoping that skies are clear for the quadrantids as we're off work. So can spend a whole night out. All the best to you for 2024 and wishing you clear skies. As I'm still hoping to get some time on Orion this winter as it's been awful again this season. I already have the calendar and am trying to work out when to take days off next year.
Great info Alyn, thank you very much and congrats for your amazing videos and books! I am also looking forward in 2024 for the conjuctions of the Moon with the Pleiades (M45), in which the Moon will also occult some of their stars. Clear skies to all and a Happy New Year!
I am going from my home in Washington to Texas for the solar eclipse. I have a college friend who lives right in the middle of the path of totality. I hope I can get the comet too!
Merry Christmas! The two events I’m looking forward to are the comets. I wanted to capture the auroras but I already have travel plans made for the summer back home in Alaska, which has taken all my funds. Maybe I could capture it with the small to tiny window of darkness. 🤷🏽♂️
Any tips for someone who telescopes in an area where there are towering mountains in the east? :D Sometimes the flat endless expanse in the west wont cut it. (Albuquerque, NM)
A very happy new year to you, Alyn. You’ll be delighted to know I spent a couple of hours on Christmas Day swotting up on ISO variance vs invariance from your FotoVue book. I know, rockstar! 🤙
Hi Alyn, Thanks for the info. There's mention of the Leonids and that they may be an outburst from the 1633 trail, was written by Karl Antier on the IMO page.
couldn't find anyone talking about it butt trust me, it's worth marking your calendars We're getting stunning celestial cosmic show on 11,12,13 of August when Jupiter and Venus will show up together in the night sky #JupiterVenustogetheronAugust #Jupitervenu2025
Merry Christmas!, Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks looks promising and because of its frequent outbursts it may be my first naked eye comet, comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) looks 50-50 because of its perihelion which is very close to the Sun but I'd still be positive about this comet.
I'm from Maine and live a few miles away from where the total eclipse will appear on 4/8, I'm looking forward to it. Let's hope there are no clouds that day.
I'm in Newfoundland, very close to the total solar eclipse line. Will be traveling the few hours to be in Gander Newfoundland when it happens. Cheers from Newfoundland! 😃
You certainly are a gifted specialist when it comes to astrophotography. Is it necessary to use a solar filter which supposed to have a special coating to capture the eclipse? I have a Sony A7IV and the Kase 3, 6, & 10 magnetic filters. I plan to combine the 6 and 10 ND filters for the shoot. Would it still potentially cause harm to my camera sensor?
I always feel so bad when the most replayed part is the sponsor. I mean sure no one wants to watch a sponsor but bro took some time to make a nice sponsor and his work gets seen from just like the 1% that didn't skip. Great video tho, cant wait to see the solar eclipse!
I'm hoping for clear skies on the morning of 18th October 2024. I have a moon shot planned where it'll set behind Chester Cathedral. The height of the moon will be the same as the height of the tower, so if everything goes to plan, it'll look awesome if I pull it off!
Hello, I've tried to buy a calendar but the sites not working, I wanted to buy one for my mum she's a big fan, I know he's sadly left this earth to early, but does anyone know how I can get one? This message is in support & respect xx
During the 25 Dec 24 greatest elongation of Mercury, you said it was greatest eastern but if seen before sunrise, it has to be greatest western elongation. As for my top 2024: thee total solar eclipse followed by the bright comet in October. Happy holidays.
Sir I am from Delhi, I do little astrophotography, but astrophotography here is so difficult due to light pollution. But I want to share my work with you and also want to work with you.
April 8th will be my fourth total eclipse in my lifetime my wife is taking me to Metropolis Illinois we will be visiting the Superman Museum and then experiencing the eclipse
What happened to your geminids trip ??? Was desperately waiting for your vlog, we also went to class 2 region this year but unfortunately couldn't capture much 😢
Question: 2:41 to 2,51 - I thought Venus and Mars were on opposite sides of the Earth (Mars being further from the sun than Earth, and Venus being nearer). So how can they be seen together in the sky? If Mars were to orbit around towards the other side of the sun, then I assumed it would be too small and distant to be seen from Earth. And also not in the night sky?
2023 has been seen out with some amazing Nacreous Clouds AKA Polar Stratospheric Clouds. There have been loads of these clouds over north east England and sightings as far south as Milan.I have never seen anything like these clouds before.I would guess that they form in a similar way to their even higher Noctilucent Cloud cousins.A tiny bit of moisture getting into the Stratosphere and dust from Earth but also from comets and meteorites.
I am from India and I am not able to buy your calendar but can you tell me that, I am able to watch aurora in india or not .by the way nice video.abd it is informative also😊
An opposition is not always a guarantee that a planet is closest to earth. It depends on where earth is in its orbit. It only means the planet is 180 degrees from the sun from our vantage point.
Which is exactly when a planet is closest to Earth on its orbit. The day of the exact shortest distance might differ from the day of opposition by a day of two, but I don't think such technicalities need explaining in such a video
Can you please keep an eye on your mic volume levels the next time you make a video. Some parts of this current video are literally crackling because it's too loud.
@@jesuschrist2284 yeah it sounds fine almost consumer devices because TVs and computer usually compensate for audio clipping. However most hi-fi systems don't apply additional processing to keep the sound as close to the source as possible. I'm getting the sound out of the TV via optical cable which goes into my 5.1 system and it's just terrible how much crackling there is due to clipping in my center channel speaker. This is not a problem with my system but rather a problem with the actual clipping audio in this video. 99.9% of TH-cam content that I watch daily is absolutely fine. But if something starts clipping on my side and that's a sign that the source material is even worse because TH-cam is actually trying to normalize the audio but apparently even that fails with short transients (short peaking above 0) which result in crackling. Not constant cracking but those transients are the ones which slip through... For this current video I obviously had to switch off my cinema system and use TV speakers through which I can't hear those transient crackles. I actually suspect that for audio output from my TV my optical the LUFS parameter assigned by TH-cam encoding doesn't actually apply, That's why my speaker system just oversaturates.
The only thing better than Alyn’s calendar is his encyclopedic book: “Photographing the Night Sky”!

Yay! I was able to get a calendar! I'm going to plan a whole bunch of time off to photograph these events. 💜

Merry Christmas! What's your opinion on the rainbow cloud phenomena being seen up and down the country? 🌈🌔🌼
Nacreous clouds are usually sighted every year, just seems to be more attention on social media this year for whatever reason.
@@AlynWallaceused to see them in Cuba when I was a child. Around 5-6pm the clouds can shine in different colors like a rainbow.
Great video Alyn Can you make video about ttartisan 11mm f2.8 lens? I'm gonna buy it and I don't now if it's any good. Cheers 🎉🌌
Bucket list, Northern Lights
Rip, you got me in to taking photos of the skies
I got your calendar and it is really beautiful
In 2023 I got 20 auroras displays at mid latitude in North America 48th parallel with amazing shows, so I'm really hyped about 2024 😁

Great video thank you. Do you have any of your calendars left please? If so, I’d like one 🤞🏻
