Freaktography Travel Vlog: Four Days in Abandoned Saskatchewan This trip to Saskatchewan in May of 2023 took me several months to plan and plot out and 4 days to complete. In total, I travelled 2,813 km and visited 41 individual abandoned locations of interest. I slept in my car all three nights and on night four I rented a hotel room by the Saskatoon airport. On Night 1, I stayed on the grounds of an abandoned church On night 2, I slept in my car in a Walmart parking lot in Regina On night 3, I slept in my car in a Walmart parking lot in Swift Current. This video features 32 of the 41 locations that I visited on this trip, not all of the locations were video-worthy but I did stop to take many photos at many places along the way. Thanks for watching, I hope you like this travel vlog video! You can see the photos I have posted so far on my website with lots more to come! freaktography.com/saskatchewan-photography/ #saskatchewan #travelvlog #abandoned
Really cool video, incredibly interesting, had no idea such places existed, those old houses were amazing in their crumbling beauty. Great subjects to photograph.
Outstanding video! I don't comment a lot, but I always watch and 👍! A lot of history going on in this video. All of these locations are amazing. The Witch's House would make a great puzzle. The Butte was my favorite. My Uncle had an Austin, so I'm fairly certain that's what the car was. I only remembered it because of a poem he always quoted. "There was a man from Boston, He went and bought an Austin. He traded his ass (jackass) for a gallon of gas and his balls fell down and he lost them"! Never quite understood it, but to a 10 year old, if jackass and balls were in it, it was funny. That was 51 years ago. Appreciate you taking us on your journey. Have a great day 👍
loved watching this video! Being an Ontarian moved to Alberta over 20 years ago, I'm curious about Southern Saskatchewan and now planning a roadtrip in the Summer to check it out.
This is your BEST video of 2024 yet, the pictures, the area, the churches, omg, so much to see, I loved every part you went to, thank you, worth watch 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Wow the country side of Canada I absolutely love It the old churches the old houses just love it I did not know that Canada had so many hidden treasuers like the videos like you put together thank you for the video tour of Saskatchewan Canada hope that you do many more videos like this one
37:51, I’ve seen this house before on YT, a local Saskatchewan explore did some very nice night shots at this particular location. When his video was made a year or so ago, it was safe, not as bad as it looks. No trip to Saskatchewan especially for a Canadian wouldn’t be complete without visiting Rouleau, were Corner Gas was filmed.
I love what you do with night pictures of churches! I think it honors the memory of those who attended decades ago. Your work is similar to Chris Attrell who does a great job as well. Thanks! Believe Jesus he forgives sin of all who believe in Him and He returns for believers soon.
Good morning from Cape Cod 🦈 there's certainly is some amazing architecture and some of those old churches, history that needs to be preserved. You really got some amazing shots in your journey Dave. Keep up the great work and the awesome videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
Hello Dave, awsome video. The photography made my jaw drop. My favorite shot is of the church at night with all the stars❤ Do you sell any copies of your work? Please let me know. Thank you for all the great videos you create😊❤
The beauty of the prairies still shines despite the loss of structures almost every day. Saskatchewan had a very high population base in the early decades of the 20th century with a farmstead on nearly every quarter section of land in the good land regions then rural depopulation really got going in the later 1940s and that continues... Back in the mid 1960s through the 1970s railway stations started to disappear then around 1970 it was the grain elevators that faced accelerated demolition especially with the railway abandonment blitz in the later 1970s and onward, Plus elevator mergers and consolidations. Small village and hamlet stores and service stations began to close with the rural depopulation that continues to happen. The rural architectural heritage is more sporadic now but your videos shows there is still a lot to be found. I don't have a clue how many rural churches remain or abandoned farm houses?? I do know that there is now just under 400 wood crib grain elevators which remain on their original sites but weather is slowly destroying the abandoned elevators such as that January snow storm of 2021 which did a number on the cupola at the Bents elevator and also knocked the cupola off the Neidpath elevator. Dummer hamlet even had a hotel in the 1940s, a neat colour photo in a children's book on Canada shows a line up of grain trucks waiting to deliver grain to the elevator and on the right side of the photo shows a house that was sitting derelict until recent years. Every now and then I hear about a ghostly hamlet being leveled by the RM burning or bulldozing down the abandoned buildings, this happened at Hampton, Eskbank and Govenlock to name a few. Places like Robsart and Bateman still have several abandoned structures which allows you to connect with the past but a field with some remnant debris makes it hard to imagine what a place was like. You can easily assume that nine out of ten railway sidings was a small community at one time with at least one store. Mitchelton is a former hamlet, not much there today and like many places is easily missed. Th first time I saw Peterson hamlet there was an old store but someone turned it into a dwelling, the elevator remains to stand guard for now. I enjoy seeing the prairies, that special light is magical but it hurts to know how much has disappeared over the last seven decades.[]
You had it right for a moment it’s pronounced In (as in go in) then singer. Right on highway 16 near Yorkton..not sure which way you drove it but you would have went through my hometown of Foam Lake…great video
Most of the elevators were auctioned off for lumber years ago. I wish u luck in you’re journey. Hopefully you don’t see to many elevator cats. Watch out
You know, when you pointed out that first house on a little hill, the house really wasn’t the noteworthy factor. Actually, it was the hill. I mean, look around. It’s flat. You know, Saskatchewan. 🙃👍☮️🌞
Hey really enjoyed this, but, would have liked more views thru the windows of the buildings you didn't get into. Looking forward to more programs about this same trip.
I've been to Saskatchewan with a guy friend, we went to Humboldt. If youve ever seen a huge property a long the highway that literally looks like a junkyard with a house on the right, with 3 big silver grain bins on the property at the back, thats were we stayed for a bit, the older guy and his wife lives there, he liked to fix old cars and stuff up i guess, but seriously i think he had a big hoarding problem now that i think of it🤔, inside it was no better , with junk everywhere on the tables. idk how his wife put up with that and they owned 3 big dogs. Anyways, took a lot of pictures, i wish i wasnt stupid and just deleted all of them.. i mean, it was the guy, i dont know him anymore, and i didnt think before i deleted, and i didnt want the memory of that time when i was with him. My parents were disappointed i just deleted all those great pics. I was sort of disappointed in myself too😐, i took probably over 100, its not like the guy was in any if the tbh , i just took a lot of landscape pictures. I highly doubt i will ever get an opportunity like that ever again to travel where we went, we travalled along the trans canada highway which i think goes thru all the provinces pretty much... Btw, travelling by car sounds good, and actually being able to sleep in a proper bed🤔. For the 2 month i was with the guy we slept in a cramped cabin the the back of his truck.

Great tour thankyou Dave, the old green car is either aBritish Austin Somerset or its larger brother Austin Hereford from the 50’s
Nice man
Thanks for the visit
Excellent finds. I’ve driven through Saskatchewan a few time but always stayed on #1 highway. Didn’t realize how beautiful the province is.

Thank you for sharing Saskatchewan with us. It makes me home sick from living in Lloydminster, AB & SK. area..

We don’t call it a hoodie. In Saskatchewan it is called a bunny hug.
Sask has a trespass law. Hope you got the nessearry permissions to go onto private property.
It sucks living in sask just saying this winter has not been fun lol

Must take a lot of courage not to go a bit crazy in all that space. I'm in the UK so hard to imagine but perhaps a good place to escape to?
So the earth is FLAT after all, eh? It sure looks that way in SK, and ain't nobody can convince me otherwise.
Hey did you ever go to Grenfell

Nobody comes to my corner of the country
The place should be re-named "Empty Land."
