    Nigel, your channel is the coziest I've found. Last time I felt like that was when sitting in the same room with my friends doing crafts: chatting, working with our hands and just chilling. Thanks for bringing this feeling back!

    Instead of using tarp on your greenhouse Nigel, you can use bubble wrap on the inside. I am using that and it let 80% of the sun thru it. It also insulate a lot.

      I have used bubble wrap pool heaters in the past and they work. Don't get colored bubble wrap.

    Nigel, you are going to have to put you a cot and blankets in the glass greenhouse. Looks like you are very happy in there. I am sure the trees are loving hearing you talk quietly keeping them company. Glad you are Covid free too.

    You have the patience of a saint to do all that kneading of the caulk. I wonder if the expanding foam would work also on sealing the joints.

    Good idea, using the old putty. Keeping as much cold air out will certainly help keep things a little warmer.

    Such a nice talk, thank you Nigel! My ficus trees never go dormant, not even with the 45° C of hot summer days. They are really like tanks

    It will be great to hear what kind of a difference the putty makes that you installed today. I just love seeing how much you are enjoying you glass greenhouse. You really did a spectacular job putting it together. It’s just beautiful!

      Thanks Barb, the greenhouse went down to 6 C last night while outside it was -1 C. The next few nights it will be -3 C, hopefully all will go well!

    That was a great talk! The Covid flu definitely lucky not to get. Many of my family have had it go through their home a couple times now as there are no restrictions where they are. Kids bring it home from school. We have been lucky up where I am. Most cases are directly from travel. That greenhouse be great for meditating. The oxygen in there, calming trees help the stress.

    All looking very nice Nigel. Just a suggestion but you could put some clear bubble wrap around the back of your plants, against the glass.😀

    Did you notice the bonsai trees in Dune? They're not exactly in focus but it was nice seeing them. I was wondering who created those trees.

  • @theclarkofben84
    @theclarkofben84 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nigel - if you apply bubblewrap to the glass inside your greenhouse you will insulate it and it will hold it's temperature much better. This is common in the UK. Worth a try as bubblewrap is not expensive.

    I’ve often wondered if pines and cedars grow in the winter. Sounds like they do, just much, much slower. That’s kind of cool to know. That they are very much alive and changing.

    Oh! That's what frightens me! You're lucky you didn't catch Covid. They say double vaccination is not enough any more and we need a third shot for the highest level of protection. I remember my grandmother squeezing dough in the holes around the window frameworks of our old house in the village. Those good old days!

  • @tanyabrewer991
    @tanyabrewer991 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, it is really amazing how many near misses I have had with covid, pleased 😀 you had an all clear. On another note I never knew about sugar in trees and frozen points, real interesting ,I guess liveing in the north island of New Zealand 🇳🇿 it more warm no snow just frost. Great to see the progress on the green house, would the mice chew the putty?

    Hey Nigel!! I’ve been watching your videos for 6 years now! I had a question for you, where can I get turf-ace soil in bulk? I live in Florida and I think your mixturewould actually benefit the same down here as it does with you. Aeration and moisture locking. I’m tired of purchasing pre mix from people.

  • @Liisa3139
    @Liisa3139 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes vaccines really work. They are particularly important if you get infected after all; just about all cases in hospital care in my country are people without vaccination.

    We are going to see Dune for the first time Saturday. I'm avoiding 3D, we were hoping to do IMAX but heard complaints about it in the Vaughan theatre we are going to. So standard showing it is!

  • @josephwatts2341
    @josephwatts2341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I watched Dune at home the first time I watched it. The second I watched it in IMAX. I thought it was visually good. I found the story lacking. But, I enjoyed it. I’m a huge fan of the book, it’s hard to match that.

  • @ottoman4r
    @ottoman4r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Nigel, do you ever run into issues with insects in your soil? Such as worms, small flies, snails (I believe there are eggs in the soil and that's how they get there)?
    I moved some of my plants inside, and seems to be many in there. Especially now they're a bit warmer than outside. Nothing too major, so I just leave them but I can see this going out of control.
    Cheers I appreciate your thoughts.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Alexander, I use a soil with no organic matter and get very few insect problems. I do get insects in my moss sometimes, but they usually don't touch the tree roots. My soil is 1/2 perlite and 1/2 SafetySorb (Fuller's Earth).

    Oh man, I hate 3d movies, it darkens the screen and it is not as crisp. I had to watch it again in non 3d after the initial viewing (bought wrong tickets due to the cineplex app being confusing)

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I likes Avatar in 3D, and Gravity, but those are the only two movies so far! Yes it does get darker in an already dark movie.
