The problem is all four of those schools are really isolated, and no Group Of Five Teams want to travel such distances just to play a game or two every Season. It would be like Hawai'i joining Conference USA.
Besides- imagine the Travel Budget for those schools if they joined the MWC...

Ultimately Nova’s stadium will prevent them from ever moving. The Big East, just before the football part imploded, asked them to jump to FBS. The catch was that they would have to find a bigger venue for home games. There is zero room, on or near campus to expand the existing stadium or build a new one. Under the right circumstances for conference alignment that could turn into a Power 6 with the Big East being brought back. Teams like Louisville and Syracuse could go back to this new Big East like they were before and I think it would be very interesting with how that would play out. Villanova, UConn, Syracuse, and Louisville would all have a reunion in that scenario and it wouldn’t just be limited to basketball either. The other 4 on your list to be included to make the 8 team minimum requirement I believe would be Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Temple. If they decided to go with 10 teams for this Big East reiteration then of course Albany and Stony Brook could make the cut.

The only problem is that Chatt will not commit. They would be a perfect Sun Belt (Group Of 5 SEC lol) Conference. There would be built in rivals with GA State, App State, GA Southern, etc.... And of course MTSU in C-USA and the occasional beatdown by their big brothers the Vols in Knoxville. But they would have to commit with resources and stadium and facilities upgrades. But it seems that they are not willing to commit to make that jump. If they did, they could be really good. They are smack dab in the middle of fertile recruiting grounds. Chattanooga is a cool little city to recruit to. If they committed and did it right, UTC could be a Group of 5 powerhouse. And I am a die hard Vols fan. But I root for the smaller Tennessee schools. • @PCSPounder

Just take ALL the current division designations and defenestrate. For those who didn’t go to college, that word means throw ‘em out the window.
Take the conferences and do the same.
Organize by merit, promotion and relegation, create levels in a pyramid so that the top level is one or two 12-school divisions that play each other (the national championship can then simply be a bowl game between the two champions). By the third or fourth level, there are very regional divisions. Reward schools for success instead of rewarding schools like Purdue for hanging on in a conference with 3-4 big powers. However, a small percentage of top level revenues need to be distributed as rewards for winning a 4th-tier division and/or moving up.

Youngstown State applied to the MAC the same year Marshall and NIU did in 1995. Marshall and NIU was accepted as new members after the 1996 season. The MAC rejected Youngstown State for two reasons 1) Their athletic budget, at the time, YSUs athletic budget was only 9.7 million across YSU entire athletics, MAC schools budgets were all like 23-28 million at the time and 2) Youngstown was not Title IX complaint, as a matter of fact YSU had never been complaint and wasn't actually compliant until 2002.

I really hope the Montanas and Dakotas DON'T move up. I want to see a league with all 4 Dakota schools, , the 2 Montana schools, Idaho, and one more (Weber State? Wyoming?). That's way more entertaining than seeing NDSU travel to Ohio or Montana State travel to Corvallis for a random game no one cares about at all. Rivaries and regionalism need to matter more than ever beyond the P4 and first couple of G5s. The MAC isn't going to suddenly be great because they added UMASS, all that does is drive up the travel budget for ESPN to MAYBE give them an extra 100k. The 12 team MAC from Buffalo to Chicago is perfect.
