Awesome review! I didn't knew how good Waid's run on Captain America was, but now I really want to read it! I also like the way you review the omnibus, by opening it and showing the binding, cover art, dustjacket and the pages.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! :) I'm sorry, brother. But, if you are at all interested, you should pick up the first trade to see if its even your style of storytelling .
New fan here of your channel, especially of your trade/omnibus centric episodes. I used to have Waid's first Cap storyline in trade as well as the first couple of issues of his Heroes Return series. I definitely want to get the omnibus edition of this because I love the oversized Kubert and Garnry artwork. Such dynamic and explosive art styles. Personally, I enjoyed First Sign as a crossover and think the trade is still worth getting since it also collects a few Avengers issues post-Crossing and pre-Onslaught, as well as the final Teen Tony Iron Man issues which haven't been collected anywhere else besides an issue or two in the Onslaught collections.
Tommy, you so much for watching and subscribing. First Signs I thought did the job that it needed to get done. I decided to keep that Avengers Trade that has that crossover and the remaining Iron Man issues. I'm one of the few people that actually enjoy The Crossing. ;) Everyone has guilty pleasures.
Your binding looks good compared to mine! This book it's as bad as the 1st print of miles morales. Hopefully Marvel can do a corrected reprint. Merry Christmas hermano!

those cap premier hardcovers must have had huge print runs they were so cheap at cons. i couldnt resist. but i got the all those books as well so im a triple dipper too.

Very thorough presentation. I'm still undecided though. Since I came back to the comic collection world a few years back I already collected a lot of back issues of titles I was interested in through TPBs, and just in the last year, Omni's and OHCs. For Cap, I started with the series right after Waid and then into Brubaker's run (which was awesome). I'm just not sure I'll go further back on this title. This seems a little too "nineties" for my liking. No offense (since I know you were a product of that decade growing up) but the nineties in comics reminds me too much of the eighties in music where you got either too many corporate hair-bands or everyone sounded like synth-pop zombies with glossy outfits but shallow music. I'm sure there are a lot of exceptions but it seems Marvel really turned around in the 2000's with substantive storytelling again. Although you make a good case that Waid's run was one of those exceptions so I just may change my mind. Thanks for the good review!!
Thank you so much for watching. I can say that Waid's run of Captain America really stood out above the rest of the 90s comics that the big two were publishing at the time. Waid took Steve back to the basics and reminded us what made Cap a great character in the first place. If you went as far as Jurgens, then you at least have to give Waid a shot. :) perhaps pick up one of the cheap trades to check it out.
Good point. I think I will pickup the Epic: Man Without A Country as that is pretty cheap and contains 450 pages of around 16 total issues. Hopefully that story line is the one you most fondly remember. I didn't know he was considered dead to the nation again at the beginning of this story run. That's been a plot device used frequently for ol' Cap throughout his tenure. I did like how Brubaker fleshed out this plot device during his run. Will have to let you know my thoughts down the road once I've read it. Thanks again.

Gruenwalds run wasn’t just the best Cap run ever, it is one of the greatest comic stories ever told. Looks like we’re finally getting an omnibus of his A+ material, my friend!
I wish they would reprint this volume
I got mine about 3 weeks ago. Didn't want to open it until I finished my current queue of Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme Vol. 1. Well, I finished that Friday and decided to open Cap's omni tonight. Sadly, the entire top of the binding is detached and about 70% of the very bottom is detached. Just the sides and a little tiny bit holding it on right now.
Yeah, my binding after the readthrough was bad too.
Will get this one! Do you know if they will REPRINT the Brubaker omnibus run.CGN is out of most of it.
Sadly, that run won't be reprinted for a while.

Hey Omar, I got a nice deal on the last two omnis of the five Brubaker omnis (the CAPTAIN AMERICA TRIAL OF CAPTAIN AMERICA OMNIBUS and CAPTAIN AMERICA RETURN OF WINTER SOLDIER OMNIBUS). Should I take it, will it make any sense if I read the last two omnis only..? I haven't read any Cap stuff before.
The Brubaker run is some of the best. Probably top 3 for me. Its wonderful.

Does Waid give his run a proper ending? Thats the only thing holding me back from buying this
For the most part he wraps up the loose ends and leaves Jurgens enough room to do his own thing

I'm not sure Aidan. I really hope that Thanos kills some of our favorite heroes at the end of IW. I think Cap will survive at least until the next Avengers movie. I haven't picked up the JL Detroit era. That era started pre crisis and my DC starts with Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Near Mint Condition yeah that era sucks in people's book I mean most of the justice league is replaced by new young hip heroes that just suck except vixen so it's ok if you didn't buy it and justice league rebirth sucks so much justice league of America rebirth is good right?

Yes. I had to repair the entire spine. First time ever with a Marvel omnibus.

I know this comment is old, but just wanted to weigh in that my copy's binding totally came unglued upon first reading. So looks like it was pretty hit-and-miss on this printing.
what no captain america sentinal of liberty hardcover? you amateur. i thought waid's sharon carter was kind of a ripoff of frank miller's karen page. a love interest out of the past who werewas forced to do unspeakable things in latin america just to survive. and she was pissed off at cap because he didnt come save her. she was a trained shield agent from a wealthy family im pretty sure she could have hopped on a plane. it never really jived with her death it was waid saying i want her back so she is back.
HAHAHAHAHA I am a monster. :) I kind of dug his take on her. But Bru's was where she shined.
