Brubaker's Cap run is one of the greatest Cap runs of all time. Just fantastic. I have double dipped a lot on this one as I have the singles and the Omnis for most of it
This was the run that made me love Captain America comics and Marvel Comics again! I had ditched Marvel in my University days (hung on to DC & indie books) and had left for a good fifteen years and this run brought me back... it's that good! Also it made me a huge Ed Brubaker fan... I see a book with his name on it and it's an Instant buy for me!
I don't care for Captain America. I watched this video beginning to end though. Love listening to you rave about the stuff you like Jess. (Even if it's not my bag) Peace and Love.
The Waid/Garney run is what got me into comics as adult so it will always be special for me. Right before Waid's run Cap was a typical EXTREME 90s book, AKA crap. His run is classic Marvel, but updated and really well done. It was a very fun book.
@@OmnidogsVault I think you'll like it. Waid's one of my favorites too. He doesn't get all the hype, but he's a great writer. Pretty sure I've liked, or loved, everything I've read of his.
If memory serves, Brubaker decided he had told the stories he wanted to tell and it was better to leave when he did than to hang on too long and get run off the book. So glad you finally read this run and enjoyed it!!
Such a good overview, @omnidog's vault You show you have done your homework as well :) The recommendations such as Fallen Soldier and Marvels Projects are correct. The Brubaker run is a great modern start off point with a good throwback to the days of yore, so you won't have to read the very old stuff. I like these types of runs way more than reboots or crap like the Ultimate Universe.
Glad you finally got to this. I think we all have those books in our collections that we know we'll live but we just keep not getting to. Now we'll have to figure out other books to yell at you in the chat to hurry up and read.
Recently bought *Captain America Lives* with *Trail Of Capt'* & *Return Of Winter Soldier* on order/pre-order. Really hoping those first two titles get reprints next year so I can read through them for the first time. Having glanced the artwork, it looks amazing and only heard good things about the saga
I have the whole run in trades. I was first introduced to the Winter Soldier storyline via the Hachette Marvel Ultimate GN series and was blown away by it. I've read part of the rest but really need to go back to the beginning. I have that Marvels Project and quite enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for stories that look back tie in the past with the present. Cheers Jess. 👍
I just bought 4 of these Brubaker Omnibuses and hoping to read them once they arrive. I was also curious how good they are. 'Trial' cost me a bit since their out of print. Thanks for the review...at first I wasnt sure to buy all the single issues or just go for the omnibuses.
Thanks for the review. I am 3/5 of the way through collecting these Omni's and I wasn't sure if I wanted to finish the collection. It's a big investment and the last two Omnis seem to have a different vibe. Your review helped convince me to finish collecting the run. Also, jumping on the last comment, would love to see a Waid/Samnee Black Widow Deluxe Edition. Keep up the great entertainment Jess!
Brubaker's Cap is as good as mainstream superhero comics will ever get - both writing and art of Epting and Lark. Its the only Cap run youll ever have to read/own - but beyond that its a template for exactly how to modernize a classic character. The Cap comic run is vastly superior to the movies as well. Youll know it immediately too the way the book opens with a serious to the core scene with the Red Skull in Russia. Many other modern comic runs simply pale in comparison - Cap is the best of the best.
We all pronounced Namor`s title that way Jess. Don`t feel bad. Nice reviews. Wished I had the time to read as much as you. My back-log pile is ridiculous.
Great video, Jess. I’ve only read the material in the first two (in singles when it was new) and haven’t ever got around to the rest. I need to. Maybe after I’m done reading the entire Superman: New Krypton saga that I’m currently reading.
I remember really loving the first three omnis but the last two had a more standard marvel comic feel where as the first three had more Brubaker vibes that made it unique. Nevertheless I’d recommend the whole thing to anyone intrigued in Captain America
Here after the stream and cannot wait to start volume one hopefully in the next week, and then probably volume 2 and 3 right after… Love hearing you talk about these books and breaking them down 🙏🏼
@@OmnidogsVault I’d definitely pick up Ed Brubaker’s run if I and when I do. I’m focusing on Spidey and Daredevil at the moment. Just found an OOP Oversized HC of Guardian Devil for a decent price
I knew you would fly through those once you got started🙌Great review Jess! Once I circle around and start rereading my Marvel books again. This will probably be the first😊
Looks like a great story. Too much of an investment for me right now, but someday I will find a way to read it! Thanks for the great overview and for not spoiling too much! - Peace!
Wow, I just found you guys. Good job. I didn’t like him bringing back Bucky, but it was a good story. I think that Brubaker should have left after the Death Of Captain America storyline .He started to just go through the motions after that . After that, nothing really classic occurred .
I can always count on you to give such a great opinion/review. I’m gonna buy these because you say so! P.S. I loved Irredeemable! I love your show, give me more videos :)
WOW Paranormal, thank you so much!! I have not been feeling well this week and I had so many video plans! But I'll be better and I'll get more good vids up! Do you like reviews of Hidden Gems, Popular Books or something different?
@@OmnidogsVault thank you for writing back to me, I’m honored. I really hope you feel better soon, you really are a treasure and I immensely enjoy getting hearing/watching your reviews. Thank you again for reading my comment, thank you for your work here :)
@@paranormalengineeringandsu8394 Ok I can always do more reviews! I love doing them and I have about 4 series I've read recently and need to review!! Thanks so much!!!
Based on the other comments here, mine is going to be an unpopular opinion. I was really disappointed with the first omnibus, so much so that I gave up on collecting the rest. That first issue with the Red Skull was amazing, but everything else was downhill from there. I loved the Winter Soldier film and I loved Brubaker's Velvet. This really feels like Marvel playing at espionage. This really was the graphic novel that made me go: if this is one of the best Marvel has to offer, I'd be better off sticking to Image and indie titles moving forwards.
Brubakers run is one of the best comic book stories i have ever read! I first got the tpb and now collecting the omnis because its just a great story!
