Without doubt SM are the greatest live band I’ve seen. Their lyrics, the musicality and despite the band members who’ve come & gone throughout the years , it never gets in the way of the way the songs come across. Proper music !
23rd July 1989, Leeds Roundhay Park. My first proper gig. Stood near the front near Charlie. Blew me away and a memory I will cherish for my whole life.
How do you pick up the threads of an old life ? How do you go on when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back ? There are things that time cannot mend, some hurts that go too deep that have taken old ... eighties: youth....hope....pure music...
Brilliant stuff.. I remember when this was released Listened to this track the most from the album... Glasgow dark winters cold and wet, but we had this... I wouldnt have it any other way... Superb.
Spine chilling performance from the best live act in the world mesmerising from when the curtain crashes down and the Minds start playing fantastic!!!.
+waldorf3 Watch "Alive in Rotterdam". Jim comes bounding onto the stage in the first notes of waterfront, and it's full throttle from there on... a truly amazing performance. This performance starts with a big crash and then the're all asleep behind thier ridiculous sunglasses. Bands have good times and bad times. This was a bad time. Watch thier 1982 Newcastle CIty Hall gig... this is so boring in comparison. I should know, I was there at Wembley for this. I've saw them in the early nineties in a tiny hall in LA and they were amazing, way better than this crap. Saw them again on the 5x5 tour and it was almost up to the early 80s standards. But this is dirge - pretentious, preachy, dirge. :(
I'm enjoying this because my generation will never throw anything like this out. You'll never get a band again starting out from scratch and 12 years later they are playing Stadiums. The pay off after all the years of hard work and graft. This is epic but they knew what ride they were on and they catered for it perfectly come this time. The ambition is quite simply totally inspiring. This is what being in a band is all about.
I remember seeing this at the old Wembley Stadium, boy did it ever rain that day, got to the very front, too close to see everything though, you live and learn, that's when i also discovered Texas
This is just the most amazing piece of rock music ever made. There’s nothing else like it, simple minds are just the most amazing band ever. Can you imagine if simple minds as they were then at the height of the game being around now the internet would just blow up. These new acts could learn a lot from them on how to perform and be humble and how to play instruments.
+Thomas Edouard I was at this gig. Gunn were mediocure, Texas were amazing and totallly rocked the crowd, then simple minds came on at a laxadasial pace and kinda went downhill from there. You could kinda tell they were exhausted, and Mick was gettting depressed (he left soon after this), they had replaced Derek Forbes with yet another forgettable crappy bassist, and Mel couldn't hit the drums any harder, he was just thrashing away at them 4 to the floor, never allowing for any dynamics. The whole game was over. But they had such a good ride.
Bradonomous.... Sorry but that is utter posh . I seen them about 10 different gigs over the course of this tour and they were fantastic every time . The bass player was Malcolm Foster from the Pretenders ,so hardly " just another crappy bassist"
Could have just been an off day, or maybe wembley was too large, or maybe my expectations were too high. I saw them in Birmingham on the X5 tour and they were amazing. :)
This is music!! I cannot prevent from laughing at listening donkey hip-hop or house now. I saw them in 1989 in Italy. Wonderful concert. Great musicians!!!!!!
Sarut mana! Nu esti singura! Am crescut cu aceasta muzica si formatie! Pasionat de muzica fiind, avand si sansa in acele vremuri, ma refer la perioada inainte de 1989 (sunt convins ca intelegi ce vreau sa spun), sa am acces la muzica lor, visam sa ajung sa-i vad live! Visul mi s-a implinit dupa multi ani ... am plecat dupa ei la Helsinki si Berlin ... dupa care am avut sansa sa-i vad in Bucuresti! Mai are rost sa mai spun?
Grazie jim &company per le emozioni che mi avete regalato nei miei anni migliori, la vostra musica mu porta indietro nel tempo, anzi è senza tempi, ma rivivo quell'estate di tanti anni fa
Went to Verona three year when on holiday at lake Garda.....standing outside the venue of this fabulous gig gave me goosebumps....I can't imagine how amazing it must of been to be there....I saw SM two nights ago at the M and S (echo) arena as we all still call it in Liverpool and they were still note perfect.....long may it continue.....!!!!
Such great memories. Sadly didn’t get to Italy but was at the old Wembley stadium to see this tour. I went with some very special friends.. This was a great line up in my opinion and I remember when the curtain dropped and this song started I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes. A great band and great days
I want hear this song absolutely in Verona 2020, but with McNeil and Mel, it will be impossible, it would be very amazing. Let me see your hands 🙌. I'll be there 💕💯🇮🇹🇮🇹
Magnifique, grandiose..... Once upon a time....
I remember seeing Simple Minds at Meadowbank 1989 during this tour and they played this I think third or fourth track, an absolute smash of a track and so well played. Will never forget the hair on my neck standing on end during this1
I love Simple Minds.. Seen them live here In Glasgow back in 2002-2003 when I was 22 or 23 and it blew me away.. Jim Kerr is an awesome front man and entertainer.. One of the best groups ever.. My god they were so good.. My brother says they sound like U2.. Lol.. I like U2 too and I get why he says that.. They have a similar sound but I love SM just a tad more because I love Jim Kerr and his high kicks and his on stage moves and presence.. He owns that stage when on it. x
GEE am i getting older, how i loved that album , pre cd times , aaahh when life was simple my sister went 2 school with jim kerr , we came from same area glasgow. i can still remember cutting n snortin coke n speed off that black album cover, i take a look around now and the difference in british life is beyond words the 80s early pre blair the destroyer 90s , to his aftermath , wot hes left us brits with day 2 day is UNFORGIVABLE ,300 yr ago he would be hanging from the tower, uk identity gon
Eté 1989, les arènes de Fréjus en France, j'avais 18 ans. Même intro, les arènes s’embrasent, c'est parti ! J'avais ce documentaire en VHS et j'ai encore le ticket d'entrée 😃😍 Merci
The Verona concert is one of their greatest gig. A band at its top.
I watch this everyday at least once since years and I cry and I am 58 years old
without this my day is wasted
The power of this title is exceptional, from 6 minutes the magic of the melody is limitless, thank you for what it allows you to feel.
Could we take a moment and recognise the amazing talent of Charlie Burchill. He is up there with the best!
One of the most underrated guitarists ever.
Love this song... absolutely great performance...jim voice sounds flawless........best line up Everrr!!!❤❤

Saw them at Wembley Stadium & Birmingham NEC on this tour - absolutely fantastic live band
I was there.
Charlie ... too much!! most underated guitarist of all time!!
The keyboard/guitar/violin
interplay from 6,25 to 7,20 is total goosebumps
Saw them in 89 in Munich. It was a great concert right from the start to the end. Awesome end to a fabulous decade for music.
Da ist nichts hinzuzufügen!

Brilliant stuff.. I remember when this was released Listened to this track the most from the album... Glasgow dark winters cold and wet, but we had this... I wouldnt have it any other way... Superb.
I'm half scottish/half Italian...& I KNOW just what you mean! Cheers!!
Scottish and Italian? Good combo
Sort of "fire and ice", as the bass player of Spinal Tap would say.....
Bang on fella :)
The best years of my life :-)
Spine chilling performance from the best live act in the world mesmerising from when the curtain crashes down and the Minds start playing fantastic!!!.

Amazing! All of them. I love the way Charlie always smiles when he plays guitar 💖
Great song! Brilliant composition. This live version sounds even better than the studio version in the album.
Simply best live band In the world.

Simple Minds, The Cure, Depeche Mode en U2 the best live bands ever
+peter de vos You got serious very serious tastes
peter de vos Queen.
New Order, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band too & Green Day
ah much more are great as you think
How are Depeche Mode obscure? There's nothing obscure about them, true they are not drums, bass and guitar... fairly experimental but hardly obscure!
I've seen SM many times over the years....Last time in Edinburgh 2022...They are still a class act ...Cheap imitations don't work!!
Saw these at Wembley 26th August 1989. I loved this album and still do.
+Nick Holt Can you describe your feelings on this Wembley live 1989 ?? Please !! :)
