    After 40 years of wanting a Rick (to sound like my heroes Geddy and Squire), I recently splurged and bought one. LOVE IT! There’s nothing like a Rick.

      Jon Thompson Well, thank you, Jon.... I wouldn't say perfect...there's lots of cringing things going on in this vid. This was the toughest one I've ever done and this was the best version I could come up with to that point. I guess I could keep trying for "the best" version, and who knows, I might have got that in a free more days??? Who's to know? ... but I was happy enough with this one and had to draw the line and just go with this one. Thanks for watching.

    • @66TJP
      @66TJP  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Joel Jaffe on this one, I pretty much had everything set flat but I did boost the mids a fair amount on each channel. I couldn't tell you exactly because I never keep any records of that stuff. The strings we're fairly new but not fresh.

    Geddy's stunt double! Love your videos. Did you ever experiment with setting the mute just so (it doesn't really mute but it gives some buzz)? When I had a Rick in the 90s, I was sure that was part of his sound.

    • @66TJP
      @66TJP  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cris...I've really never used the mute on that original Ric bridge...Geddy only had that original bridge on his first Rickenbacker 4001 up until the end of 1976 and I'm not too sure that he ever used it at all.. That would be a good technical question that someone could ask Geddy sometime though.... The Badass bridge was installed on his 73 4001 prior to recording A Farewell to Kings in 1977. Thanks for taking the time to watch some of my vids and thanks for your compliment.

    Do you ever use the Ric-O-Sound output? I just bought a stereo cord for it but haven’t tried it yet. The reason I ask, your Ricky sounds stereo in places. Great playing!

    • @66TJP
      @66TJP  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This was recorded using the stereo out, or, Ric-O-Sound. Ric-O-Sound uses the stereo output and each pickup is run to a separate amp. You can pan one pickup left and one right or anywhere in between for true stereo, or what Rickenbacker calls Ric-O-Sound. The Ric-O-Sound unit that came with the older basses was just a splitter box for the stereo output cable, splitting each pickup to a separate output. For that, I bought a 1/4" stereo to mono Y splitter cord. Thanks for watching..

      It's not about hot pickups.

    • @eddievhfan1984
      @eddievhfan1984 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rickenbacker toaster pickups are actually wound kinda quiet compared to their contemporaries. The biggest point is combined a clean low end with an OD'd middle and high end.

  • @xh4r744
    @xh4r744 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I use to use the right hand like you back in the day but for the Rick it's necessary to achieve that front pick up.Btw what are using for your overdrive?

    • @66TJP
      @66TJP  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not using any overdrive at all. That's just Rickenbacker grit and pushing the gain a tad..

    • @xh4r744
      @xh4r744 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      66TJP gotcha .what amp are you running through?

    • @66TJP
      @66TJP  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I run in stereo, or as Rickenbacker calls it, "Ric - O - Sound" So, I'm using the stereo output on the bass and a stereo splitter cable running through two GK 700RB II's going direct to my mixer... each pickup goes through their own amp and I can adjust the tone on each pickup separately. The bridge pickup is slightly more to the left and the neck pickup is slightly more to the right in the mix.

    • @xh4r744
      @xh4r744 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      66TJP does the gk have as well?you mentioned that you added a tad of gain

    • @66TJP
      @66TJP  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No OD on the amp, I most likely had the gain up to where it drove it harder through the mixer and I also hit pretty hard and that will OD things a bit as well too. It's just the combination of everything all together and some luck, I guess.

    how wonderful it sounds without any vocals ! As a serious Zeppelin Floyd King Crimson and Nirvana fan... I never ever liked RUSH only because of the screetchy vocals and rather silly nerdy lyrics and forced sense of rhyme and anthemic lyrics ( truth )... BUT their music I realised is outstanding !

    • @Farewelltokingz
      @Farewelltokingz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not all of their lyrics are cheesy, I can agree a though for a lot of their songs. It’s like Star Wars, Star Wars dialogue is awful yet it’s iconic for a reason. As far as screechy vocals, he got a more pleasant sound with Power Windows, Signals, and grace under pressure.
