I've watched countless college reaction videos, but there's something truly special about this girl. Congrats! My daughter is a 1st year at UW, we watched so many of these videos last year. She is a CS major. She also was waitlisted or rejected from the UCs, got into USCs Viterbi, but went with UW due to costs. Good luck, hope you make it up to Seattle in time to see the Cherry blossoms. UW has a beautiful campus. Go Dawgs!!

congrats on UW!! i know facing a number of rejections can be tough but u can truly see how happy u were with the UW decision. i think even before opening all of the other decisions u may have subconsciously knew that was the school for u because u truly looked relieved and happy. so happy for u and wishing u the best of luck in college!!!!

I also didn’t get into any of the target schools I applied to this year. I came here from your Brown portfolio video and I would like you to know that, for some reason, watching your genuine enthusiasm, passion, and appreciation of your situation positively impacted me a million times more than any of the other consolations I’ve received. It’s hard to be judged poorly by institutions that you value. I think seeing another great student who is in similar shoes really hit me. Thank you.

@@_morganyuan yup im also a senior from the bay area and got wl/rejected by most of my reaches except one, which I'm so grateful for. its soo nice to finally see a realistic college decision reaction vid instead of one w/ multiple t20 acceptances. what matters most is what we do in college and how we make use of the opportunities given to us, and yeah we'll prob look back and laugh at the unnecessary stress lol. good luck in college!

Ayy congratulations gang. I'm currently a HS sophomore and UW is great because here in Seattle, there are so much connections you can get. You definitely have an advantage as lots of those tech companies are here 😭😈🙏

Heyyyy!!! Welcome to UW!! Congratulations on completing High School as well (or almost)!! I just randomly came across your video! I’m a sophomore at UW in Computer Engineering. I do have a good amount of experience with what the process to get into your major is like. It’s a difficult journey, but when you get it, there is almost no better feeling! @_morganyuan Most of, if not all the STEM related majors are difficult to get into. I forgot exactly what you're trying to do, but I remember seeing Biology of some kind. Not sure if you're doing pre-med. I'll put it up-front that going from pre-sciences into a stem major is an uphill battle, but so is all of college. Let me know what the specific major you're pursuing and I can take a deeper look.

Buckle in, I've got some important info here:
I checked the degree requirements, and Biology is a "capacity constraint" major which is common among stem majors at UW especially Engineering and Computer Science.
We have a tool called "Degree Audit" where you can select any major and it will tell you what classes you need to take.
**Important note: During Year #1 you would be Pre-Sciences, and then after taking your "intro/pre-requisite" Bio classes, you would then "apply" to the Biology major/program.
From the Degree-Audit:
"Biology Admission Requirements: Biology programs are capacity-constrained. Applications are accepted quarterly and are due the second Friday of autumn, winter, spring and summer quarters by 11:59pm. Applications received by the system after the quarterly cut off will be considered for the subsequent quarter.
Basic Qualifications to apply for Admission:
1) Be a matriculated UW Seattle student, in good standing
2) Completion of Bio 180, 200, 220 with a minimum 2.0 grade in each course. This is basically Intro to Bio #1, #2, #3 or in other words "The Biology Series"
3) 2.5 cumulative GPA in all coursework applied to the major
4) Personal Statement/Short answer admissions questions
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the Biology major.

You may think, "oh wow, ONLY a minimum of a 2.0 in the Bio Series and for all related classes a cumulative grade of a 2.5? That's so low." Let me say, it's like that for a reason. It's not like high school.
I'm not trying to scare you or anything, I'm just preparing you for something that I ran into and had a very hard time with myself. All the intro series at UW are very, very hard.
The first year is hard for everyone, which is why the best thing you can do is have people in your corner that you can rely on and share the challenge with. I know this is a lot. Let me know if you have other questions :)
It looks like you have great friends. Being a 37 year who went to some top schools, I can say that matters 100x more. Can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you. And you can still become a Bruin for grad school!!

It's a tough pill to swallow when you want something so bad (UCLA) but one thing I always think is "the universe knew you really wanted it but the universe felt you were meant to bloom somewhere else." Somewhere you'll have the best memories and experiences, while growing in to the woman you're meant to be.
Looks like U-Dub is going to be that place! Have a wonderful time in college :)

A couple of points, if you wouldn't mind, which undoubtedly run contrary to your message-board's sentiments... The first is that you could go to a California Community College and waltz right into UCLA after a couple years. There are some CCCs which offer honors programs not unlike ASU's Barrett, and these would have a really high rate of acceptance to UCLA > 50%, and high as 70%, like Pierce College in Woodland Hills which is in the San Fernando Valley; but obviously too, you'd probably want to attend CCC in the Bay and live at home if this were an option, and as you know it has very good CCCs like Diablo Valley and De Anza, which are in Danville, the East Bay, and Cupertino, which is in the Peninsula, respectively.
Since you're going to UDub, you could probably transfer to UCLA easier than a Washington native because you're from CA, but it wouldn't be as easy a process as if you were to attend a CCC or a UC, the latter which would be secondary in priority to the former in getting into UCLA. And I'm not sure why so many California students are so anxious to go to UDub, Oregon, and ASU, when there are so many great options in CA. You also got into a really good private school in Occidental, and it'll get you into med school as well as anywhere else, if that's your aspiration.
And I'm not down on UDub; it's a very good school also. It sounds like you're set on going there, and all the best!

The UC Merced acceptance (even though you did not apply) is based on the UC Statewide guarantee where California-resident students in the top 9 percent of California high school graduates are offered a guaranteed space at a UC campus, if space is available

yes ofc! my gpa was honestly way lower compared to my friends but i know UW LOVES to see that by senior year you're taking an AP language as well as leadership weather that be in ASB or club president etc. I was freshman class pres, sophomore class president, junior class secretary, and now ASB president. i also volunteer within the field i want to go into (medicine), do competitive dance, and compete in HOSA and Science Olympiad. UW has this long personal statement which you can just use your common app essay - if you'd like a video of me reading mine, i'm happy to do that! i also have a video coming up talking about my teacher letter of recs bc that def plays a huge

I went to UCLA, if I had to do it all over again, and I had my choice, I wouldn't go to UCLA again.
I had a good time there, I loved the experience, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone for a variety of reasons--like that 10 week schedule. which is just a rip-off quantity-over-quality money-making scheme for the school, which is ridiculous.
Also, I didn't think many of the professors were top-notch, some were, but not most, IMO.

The University of Washington is hands down better than 90% of all the universities you applied to (especially UCLA!!!). I am a UW alumni who just graduated. I may be the slightest bit biased but if you look up our rankings (especially for research), we rank amongst the highest schools in the nation. If you wanna go into STEM, UW is perfect. Welcome to Seattle!

deferred means your moved to the next round and they will evaluate you again later. you can get rejected or accepted after being deferred!

ooh good question my gpa is lowk bad due to my lower grades in AP classes which is prob what brought me down this app season + i went test optional. extracurricular wise, if you want to go to UW, i def think they like to see leadership! i was freshman president, sophomore president, junior class secretary, and now I'm currently ASB president! I also am part of HOSA, Science Olympiad, and volunteer at my local hospital. outside of school, i do dance and i used to do lacrosse and cross country soph year. over the summer i did a dermatology internship, research, had a job, and took college classes. overall, just be passionate abt what you do because that's all that really matters in the long run. good luck!! i think the biggest mistake for me was spreading myself out to thin esp my soph year, causing my low grades in AP classes. lmk if you have any questions!!

A valedictorian with 1500 and 3.9 UW from Fresno will have a different chance than someone with the same scores from orange county. Edit. and...financials...are you from washington state? so you're paying in state tuition?
