    I used these tabs one day to get me through 10 hours of tractor work. I knew I didnt want to feel hungry but eating in 97* weather while working outside just makes me sick. I took about 10 of these with me and ate 1 per hour. I never felt hungry all day and got thru the day much better than others where I just drank water all day. For that, I'd use them again.

    Originally, It was design as food tablet for downed SAC pilots and security teams, you are right it's a "Survival" food to be use for short periods of time. In the 70's, the bottle was kept in a extra canteen cover on web gear. Yes, they taste like shit and they change the mix a couple of time. I do miss the oat flour from the Original tablets, remember the Survival tablets- today, are half the size of the old ones. I use them when I was in SAC and had two bottles in my war bag. Good video.

    i would use this as more of a supplement to the food i had...one or two a day just to help out the body but still eat other foods...just in case food is a issue or are not getting what you need

      I was going to say the same thing. These tabs were made so that you can add them to your normal diet also as a way to stave off hunger when in a survival situation when you are trying to catch food and it's taking longer than usual to do so. If a lot of the people who have been on the show Alone had these, they could have gone a little longer before having to give up. As for me I have tried the original and not that great but the other flavors are better.

      Ditto. Make a decent addition to a vehicle kit, say with ramen or some other subpar food. Great for a winter kit.

    • @yummychips_
      @yummychips_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Isheian yeah, these survival tabs, are pretty much vitamin tabs. The proper kind, not those essential vitamin crap. They really are best used when pairing a food source with limited nutrition. IMO, you could still get a lot of nutritional value from normal survival situations though. So these would even be a emergency use item to a survival situation that becomes highly severe.

      I like the way they taste - much of the study done on what is food and what is not food comes from studying Blue Zone tribes
      Most of them eather live the full life span of 122 yrs or close to it and die a natural cancer free death
      What the Dutch fed there soldiers & sailors as a main stay from 1750 to 1940 or so known as Dutch Slop was only 350 calories a day or so
      Those food Tabs were the result of studying the diets of Blue Zone Tribes - most subside just fine on 250 calories a day -
      Back in the 80s I had worked remote oilfield mountain jobs - about 3 times a week every one had the flue from November to February
      In the gulf of Mexico oilfields I had remembered some retired WW2, Korea field cooks said they had to feed troops in the cold mountain regions Dutch Slop instead of regular army food or the troops became sick and couldn't fight and often just died
      We recruited those cooks up to those man camps after I had remembered them saying that - after they changed the diets to Dutch Slop - within two weeks no was getting the flue and in a month every one's health recovered -
      The American diet is coined the Roman. Diet - to extract the 250 - 350 calories we need a day you have to eat 2-3000 calories of food a day - it's based on glutin and that's a micronutrient prohibitory
      During the Black Plague - the British imposed levitical law on the Brits population - at the start - it consisted of a glutin free diet
      In the end 100 thousand Brits died of the black plague out of 7 million people -
      on the European main land - they continued with the Roman diet 50 million of 83 million died - 25 million over came the flue or plague but it shortened there lives because of continued health problems over the yrs after
      The levitical diet imposed on the Brits they know now was a glutin and lectin free diet also they could only eat certain biblical meats - they know now it takes twice the calories to digest many meats like pork & tuna
      As it turns out the Brits were living healthy on 1/8th the food the Europeans were trying to eat
      Dr Joel Wallach said all the study's of covid are revealing it only effects those on Roman diets or glutin diets ( oat meal) is also in there it has proteine's that are about the same as glutin
      In the mountains in December it dropped to -60° when it gets cold like that you tend to have a continues hunger - down to 10° a bowl of slop at 350 calories was fine but after it gets cold enough we needed twice the calories to stay warm
      We gave the crews those tabs to munch on thru the extreamly cold days - once I and others knew about them - I always kept them with me
      I like the way they taste - I can't say for a fact there 1000% healthy - also I worked the offshore oilfields for 8 months - then went to the remote mountain oilfields for 4 months
      Between feeding the crews Dutch slop as the first mainstay & steaks when it was air dropped
      Those food tabs were awsom many of us after we retired continue to keep them with us on the road over going to fast food places - only eat one an hour or you will get consatapated lol

    Yes they are. 20 years ago I had to survive on these the after I lost my better paying job. After 6 months I got a good job I replaced what I used. They are great in a pinch,I personally think they would work better as meal enhancement product. After just about 2 weeks tree bark was beginning to look good. By their selves I don't think so, but backing up a lite meal I think so. Also you should think about fiber tab to boot.

    As CP stated the compact size & storage in harsh conditions, those 2 qualities give this product a special place in everyone preps that is hard to fill with any other product. P.S. if you buy in bulk you can get the price per bottle down below $30 US each, still quite high but considering the niche this product fills it is worth it is small quantities.

    I would suggest a two day bag of the tabs, a two day ration bar(i like the ust apple cinnamon), and a few bags of the mountain house for a 6 day bugout bag. Start with a piece of the bar for breakfast, eat a tab an hour mid dayish(like 4 tabs over 4 hours), and a meal later on. If your alone the 3 serving bags can be split over 2 meals

    I bought Ready Hour survival shots from Emergency Essentials. They taste like dehydrated chocolate slimfast nd have 120 calories per tab. $30 for 180 tablets. So 720 calories a day for 30 days, and 300% of your vitamin and mineral needs.
    Not a perfect balance of nutrients (9% protein per tab) but it is marketed as a food suppliment, so it could be good for if you have some food, but not enough. I might use it to stretch food.

  • @kawikahokulani
    @kawikahokulani 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Aloha CP.
    IMHO, these should be used in conjunction with other food/nutrient sources, sort of a compact back-up, like carrying a NAA .22LR revolver in your boot.....yeh, you can probably survive with it just fine, but you are not going to thrive or have much margin of error for comfort. Just as I would never rely on 1 source or type of source for making fire or light, food is the same, and these Survival Tabs fill a unique niche.

    As a backup to my bugout bag (which is heavy, so I don't tend to take it wherever I go), I have a 15-pocket Travelsmith travel vest which I have turned into a mini-survival pack. It has just enough of the most important things to keep me alive if I break a leg while hiking, get stuck somewhere overnight when out in a small open boat, etc. I find a couple of bags of these fit nicely in a pocket, and I can have a few of them with me all the time for emergencies when I was not expecting to be away from "real" food. For this purpose, they are excellent - portability is their number one strong suit. But I would not use them to stockpile for lengthy emergencies in a shelter-in-place scenario, there are just too many much better options. Their real strength is as a "just in case" insurance when you don't want to be carrying extra weight and bulk.

    To be honest, the only worthwhile use I've found for survival tabs is to stick in your pocket when you're going to be out in the deep woods for a period of time. This is when you need a supplement. If you're out on a long hunt, or on an exploration trip, will be out for several days, and have to live off the land at any point, these things are wonderful. Anyone who thinks living off the land is easy, or always possible, has no clue.But if such times as this are never on your list, forget these things. Eat real food, and take a one a day vitamin, if you have concerns. But, really, they are wonderful for pocket carry on longer trips when you have to live off the land for any period, and certainly for a survival situation.

    Most of the advertisements I've sen for these are as a supplement to other food source. Namely rations which lack nutritional value. In this purpose I think the are perfect. Clearly not a viable stand alone system where high calorie fat and carb items are much better in terms of energy. But at same time many of those lack essential nutrition. Makes a good survival vitamin pretty much lol.

Also able to supplement with vitamins, water, and veggies. ok so I had an opportunity to try this product a couple months back at a gun show (yes I'm American). I tried the chocolate or mocha flavor and I thought it was surprisingly palatable. With that being said if I was dehydrated or otherwise lacking in my daily water intake they may be a bit rough to choke down. Now the way I would use these would be supplemental based on if I had other food to eat in a grid down situation. Now I did not purchase these at said gun show but the vendor was selling them for $35 for the large container. If that vendor is there next show I will probable pick up a couple and add them to my preps. I think integrating options into your shtf meal plan would be a good thing to say the least.

    So, would these be best as, say, an additive to whatever emergency food rations you have? A good "snack to hold you over"?

    • @CanadianPrepper
      @CanadianPrepper  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MindOfGenius Mostly supplemental, they will prevent you from dying and your body cannibalizing its own lean tissue, keep your vitals going etc. Eventually though on the recommended diet of 12 tabs per day you would die of hunger, they are not a meal replacement just a supplement. Hope that answers it!

    Another great review. The world of supplements is disappointing in itself, let alone substitutes. Different nutrients seem to be processed and absorbed at different times and locations within the digestive tract, prompting time release aspects by certain manufactures. Then we have to address the issues of potency itself in regards to the quality and type of each nutrient. Once all of that is addressed, the price skyrockets and the shelf life plummets. That makes it difficult to find a win-win situation in the supplement world. We end up with pills that cannot be combined into the same pill, must be individually or small group packaged, and divided between daytime/nighttime regiments. Even then we are lucky to get a six month shelf life. What a nightmare for advocates of simplicity. As a joke one spring, we labeled our gardens, not by plant name, but by vitamin/mineral content. Surprisingly, by the end of summer we had at least committed to memory what fruits and vegetables provided what vitamins and minerals. It was a good exercise to allow us to realize what was lacking in our diets. To date, we have found little that is worth recommending in the form of supplements or substitutes.

    • @CanadianPrepper
      @CanadianPrepper  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jamie Hitt Thats pretty good to see your garden in vita-vision. That sucks because I wanted to ask you what your thoughts were on long term vitamin storage...

    • @JamieHitt
      @JamieHitt 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Canadian Prepper Many individual vitamins have significant degradation of potency after only six months. This can often be compensated for by doubling or tripling the recommended dosage. It seems that the longer the shelf life, the lower quality and absorbability of the vitamin. We avoid the "multivitamins" altogether because many vitamins can actually have a decent shelf life as opposed to A, B, C, B12, Folic Acid, ...etc. That way, you only have to rotate a handful of volatile products every six months.

    Anyone still read this? I suddenly started looking into these survival things in view of this current outbreak of the corona virus. I would like to have something like this handy if food suddenly dissappeared off the shelves of stores. I have an excellent emergency water filter if I found us without drinkable water and to have something with this shelf life, ability to sustain your life for days until situation improves would be good. Takes up relatively little space and not slow you down compared to those 5 gal pails. The last thing I'd be concern with is how tasty it is. I'm sure it beats a worm or grub (I don't actually know that) and I'll have to be many days into dire straits before I'd eat even a tasty cat or dog much less field mice, moles or rats. Birds first with the pellet gun for me if I don't snare a hare or squirrel. As a healthy ready life saver I'm ready to buy into them and like any insurance policy I'm trusting I'll never need to use it. Good helpful review.

    Nice honest review. If this is truly such a great food replacement, why hasn't the military replaced their MREs with these tabs?

    • @Fanta....
      @Fanta.... 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Late reply, but I don't think the Armed forces are ill equipped enough to think these are necessary. There's only so much you can put a soldier through, before they go awol. As it is, the ration packs are fairly shit. good luck getting these men and women to do anything strenuous if they are eating this all the time. These tablets are for a shtf situation where you will die if you don't eat. The military already have a good handle on food logistics.
