Start buying laundry detergent in the large size with the button spout. After emptying the detergent reuse the plastic container by filling it with water to use as premixed slightly soapy water for hand washing. Mark bottles when storing. Came in handy for me recently as the town did pipe work and we suddenly had no running water for a whole day. Easy prep.

Evening JR. If you have a dehydrator, you can make your own "instant" rice. Cook the rice, then dehydrate. Package. They will rehydrate with hot water without having to boil this saving fuel in a grid down situation.... Pour heated chilli over the rice for a quick, filling meal.

BBQ during blizzard or hurricane 🤣🤣 You raise 2 important points on fuel generators: 1) running out of fuel, and 2) setting up the generator. I don’t have the strength for the set-up! I have EcoFlow and needed it only once to run my freezer. I have 2 EcoFlow and solar panels to recharge. Dont forget paper maps if the GPS FAILS.

I have a 21 cu. ft. freezer dedicated to food that does not need refrigeration. This includes nuts, beans, oil, bread, snack bars, chips, etc. All extra space is filled with 1/2 gallon (OK,, the new half gallon is 52 oz) jugs of ice. In a power outage, this freezer gets no backup power. The foods I put in here get a couple extra years of life,, without the nuisance of rotating my stock. When I take something out that item gets added to my shopping list. Flour and rice get transferred to jars, frozen 3 days to kill larvae, and stored at room temperature. Jars with metal lids are wonderful for freezing, and grain storage and are free (pickles, sauerkraut, some spaghetti sauce).

I have a camp stove but plan to get a solar set up with a single plate induction stove as open flames are not allowed in multi-household buildings in my city (although tea lights under a roasting tin are my backup). I have a camping shower which is a black plastic bladder, that can be used sitting in my south facing window, even in winter to heat water for washing in a power outage. And I have a folding camping solar panel to recharge a power bank that recharges my camp lanterns and phone. But I am city centre, apartment based so there are big limitations on my bigger scale capabilities.

If you live in Florida or anywhere along the coastline where hurricane winds and storm surges can strike and you are elderly or have a chronic medical condition that makes it hard to survive without air conditioning, the best thing you can do is evacuate if a hurricane is predicted to strike your local power grid. And if you have a vehicle, evacuating in this vehicle will save it from getting flooded or crushed. Even if you have no money for a motel room, you could camp in your vehicle in a parking lot a hundred miles or more away from the danger zone until it was safe to return home (or until you can travel farther to live with out of state relatives). The last thing you want is to be stuck for weeks in a grid down disaster zone if you need air conditioning for survival or need power for your medical devices.

Have you done any research on diy gasification systems for heat and power production? Not really a portable option and takes some time and effort to get established, but I feel like it could be one of those preps that could really act as a long term solution for multiple applications.
I’ve been really interested in creating my own system for quite some time now, and have thought about using insulated water collection reservoirs as a battery alternative, using the gasifier to heat the water like a rocket stove, and when you’re ready to use the stored energy you could use a sterling engine to convert the temperature difference back into electricity using an alternator. I feel like there are a lot of gaps to fill in to make this a viable option but I really like the idea of having such a sustainable system for long term heat and energy production. Could even have one on wheels and roll it into a greenhouse to grow food year round. Thanks for all the awesome videos, I’d love to hear you mention this idea and play devils advocate with it. Much love!

In Arizona, we don't really have "natural disasters", and it's all about the high temperature summer, as far as negative natural Earth effects. I have 8 months of canned foods,
which taste good and keep for 10 years ( I've tested that) along with instant long grain rice and Ramen noodle soup packages, which keep for at least 3 years. I like the no
cooking needed foods for "SHTF", and the instant rice is quite fine after just soaking in room temperature water for 1 1/2 hours. The Ramen noodles are nice at only 30
minutes of soaking. I have 8 months of water, I bottled myself, with my Brita faucet mounted filter in 2 liter bottles - it's easy and costs only $0.02 per bottle.

I have only tried Nutrient Survival’s Lasagna and thought it was not very good tasting. Anyone try any of there foods? If so what do you think about the taste. I personally like the Mountain House and Peak freeze dried packs I’ve tried.

I use a mixture of 7-gallon aquatainers, military water cans, and water bricks.

Indian traditional lifestyle is truly made for such situations. Every house used to have their individual wells, and With cow dung cakes used for fuel. Just put a solar panel on top and you would be good to go.

If anyone wants to chime in on their thoughts on long-term fuel storage with something like FUEL LIFE brand I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. That particular brand claims up to two years of fuel stabilization

Excellent vid. We don’t get the same sort of weather in the U.K. but we were glad to have a jump pack on hand when the truck didn’t start at a local nature reserve with 0 cars around! 😅

I had to use mine a couple of months ago. The heat here really zaps car batteries. Thanks for watching!
