The video showing it super easy to take off the back is extremely misleading. It was clearly already loose when he started the video. It's very tight and hard to remove.
I opened mine to check if there was a loose plastic piece as my vent had a crack in it from a fall (oops). There was no broken piece inside but the fall must have unclicked the case internally.
Tip for anybody opening it with a plastic piece (i used a guitar pick), start from the back where all the ports are. It is a lot easier to wedge and unclick the case there, especially from where the vents are.
@@lhx9696thanks for that tip
Yeah, that shit was a pain in the balls to open
yeah it's a shame they don't show the most interesting part of the tutorial we needed 😕
@@Arnalou83 Lenovo’s tutorial video on their website helped me a lot.
Really appreciate this disassembly video as someone who is a prospective buyer!
Great work!
Be warned it is stuck down much much worse than here.
great video and helped with everything I needed to do today. Thank you 🙏
Could you maybe test if it is possible to remove the fan lids in order to clean the heatsinks without having to remove the entire cooling system? I am seeing small little screws around it but noone seems to have tried it.
I don't know if you're still looking but the fan lids are glued to the heatsink.you can remove them but it's a 1 time use kind of thing.
But why removing the battery completely? Don't we just have to simply disconnect it?
I think the video is in general like in case you want to one day replace or swap out the battery
If you have legion 7 pro u don’t need to disconnect battery. U can turn it off in bios. And it will be turned on again when you plug in charger.
@@s.flaizlettwow that’s handy just ordered one
@@s.flaizlett according to the service manual by Lenovo - you must disconnect the battery, either upgrading RAM or SSD. But not removing, just unplug the connector.
@@СергейКракос I used feature to disable battery in BIOS. I`ve upgraded RAM and added SSD. Everything went well. I don`t think that you need to unplug battery coz it`s completely turned off after bios. Laptop does not respond to anything after the battery is turned off.
U must unplug battery if u do only a ssd upgrade?
No
Really nice assembly work
I cant open the back, there is no way to use the pick, i also tríes tu pull from one of the screw holes to try using the pick, but cant, this is driving me crazy
I had to use a very flexible pic to get it started when I got to the vents.
Same here. There is literally zero gap space for my plastic tip to get a grip to pry it open. I even ran various thickness plastic cards all along the edge, nothing.
Poor design to get inside, thanks lenovo
Do i have to remove the battery before adding a new ssd?
No
Really important part missed in this video. According to several reports, double-sided SSD not fits to the main(left) slot, but probably fit into secondary (right) one. So, most of the 4TB SSD are not supported.
Just installed a WD 4tb M.2
So that one worked, at least.
@@WinstonKillDeathyou installed it into the additional slot?
@@WinstonKillDeathyou didnt say which slot you installed that on for fucks sake wake up
@@aeonbreak4728 I didn’t feel I had to because the issue was about not fitting into the left slot specifically. I installed it into the left slot, calm down, dude.
@@aeonbreak4728 didn’t think I needed to because the issue was about it not fitting into specifically the left slot. Why would I have commented if I hadn’t even installed it into that slot.
I installed double sided into the left slot, it fit fine with zero issues. Calm the hell down, dude.
Thank you for the video! Do you know the maximum RAM the laptop can take? Thank you.
I am currently running 64 gb of ram in mine - works perfectly :)
I'm having a hard time opening it up without proper pry tools and this video doesn't help at all. I'm afraid of applying too much force but the lid seems already opened in the clip.
Thanks. Super helpful as always.
Thanks a lot for this video. Could you show how to clean fans in a proper way? I need to clean them every two months
can it fit a 2230 SSD? I have a 2230 2Tb to spare and I'd like to use it inside my Legion pro 7. Thanks
How to fully turn of the laptop before installing additional SSD?
You can diable the battery in UEFI for service purposes (it stays offline until you attach the power brick) or you disconnect the plug from the mainboard manually.
MY MAN, do we need to add/replace any thermal pads for the nvmes?
Not for the included ones, they already have thermal pads. But if you have a free slot and add one you will need a thermal pad. I saw my new drive getting up to 77 C under super light load when gaming (just the heat from the CPU and GPU heats everything else up) so it definitely needs one.
very nice video, helped a lot, thanks
Great video sir. Do you know whats the limit for RAM and SSD upgrades?
Thanks
Can you remove the fans without taking out the entire cooling rack?
Good question I'm looking the same, because I like clean the fans
@@om1978 yeah just gently peel away the sticky tape and you can clean it easily. Just be careful not to move the fans so much
video please how to open the fan and clean it thanks
Lenovo the top!
And you channel too!
But their customer support is the bottom...
where is the cable of the RGB light bar ???
What is that liquid metal Tim, is that something should not be removed at all? What about the Thermal Paste that must be replaced? Can you do a video on how to give maintenance on this cooling system type machine specifically, it would be so much appreciated.
The liquid metal replaces the thermal paste
Does anyone know the model of the heatsinks used in the Legion 7, the fan on the left side on this video is showing its age being unable to make quiet rotations and pauses making my framerate go very downhill. I bought it more time for a temporary fix with aeroshell grease which works, but I think a fresher model would be assuring.
Great, thxs...
Just got Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 Intel (16") with RTX 4070 Curious if the RAM is upgradeable, able to add SSD. Thank you for the video.
If Samsung evo 970 2tb ssd will be ok for this laptop?
i have the same question, i already own 2 970 evu plus 2tb and i need to know if should i stay with the stock 1tb ssd and add a 2tb 970 evo plus or if i should set the 2 970 evo plus, any toughs after 2 months? thanks
@@kennymungarro2398 hi. I added evo970 2tb as the second sdd, the first one is stock 1tb. So 970 works good, I don't have any problems with it, however it is said that it is old gen bla bla bla. The only issue is that it is not supported by Samsung's software, so i don't know about firmware update etc. Also lenovo vantage app doesn't fully understand 970 ssd, so it shows that it is 100% filled.
Hmm, I don't see any way to use ram at 6000MHz. :( Highest I've seen is 5600MHz.
Legion pro7 16, ryzen9 7945hx, rtx4080, DDR5 32go, 2560x1600 (2k+)
Very strong computer for 2160Euros!
MSI Asus, Same config with Full HD 3500 - 4000Euros
I stop buying MSI !
This laptop is driving me insane, I have it connected to a 4k 144hz HDR monitor and the fan keeps spinning for every small task that I do like browsing or opening folders. This is not the case when I run it on battery mode and just use it as a laptop. Nothing helps fixing this, not even lenovo ventage, lenovo fan control, turning off Mcafee, almost like it's on safe mode from overheating.
Are you closing the lid when going to external? Are both displays being used?
@@kevinjackson7539 It seems the issue was my external monitor the more Hz the more GPU power it will use, also managed to lower the fan noise turning of GPU hardware accelerator and updating Lenovo bios, Windows 11 is also the issue because now my old laptop too gives more fan noise then usual after the Windows 11 update. Spend weeks trying to solve this! The results were the same lid open or closed.
@@OneroomBeatz Glad you got that issue nailed down l just ordered a 7 Pro
Bro why do I gotta play know how to play a guitar to open my laptop this is stupid.
you don't say the size of the screwdriver. 👎
In videos like this its good to show how you've really opened the lid, because its extremely problematic and no piece of plastic fits in there so simply as you've shown it. I've had to use a steel instrument and risked scratching the laptop. So far 100% the worst laptop to open and I've opened quite a few.
useless video without even touching the heatsinks, which are the most important components to check/unscrew. Everything else is done like in any other legion..
It's a vapor chamber, it doesn't need heatsink checks. Unscrewing that will require a liquid metal replacement which is very dangerous for the average user as it can easily short out the motherboard. Liquid metal never dries out so you'll never need to open up the cooling system anyway.
This is super unhelpful as it shows somwone taking off the back that has already been removed. Where are the pry points?! Thumbs down
What kind/brand of ssd would work with this model? I am trying to upgrade mine
Any 2280 SSD works. PCIE Gen4 recommended if within budget.
