I love the stories in this collection. The Riddler story is absolutely amazing!
It is based in the originals? Or they change the real background of the riddler?
A very unique box set without dust jackets (like the X-Men Children of the Atom box set) and with each of them being 88 pages! Very nice artwork! I love it! Thanks Omar!
I'm very happy that Panini here in Germany published the series in individual volumes in absolute size and then released Killing Joke in a collector's slipcase for the entire series. This looks very fitting in my Absolute collection. ♥️
Panini sometimes has really good localization. I love that they publish the Spawn collection and Sunstone as oversized hardcovers, for example. The translation is sometimes questionable, but they make up for it.
I was just starting to look at One Bad Day and trying to figure out which version of the series I wanted to pick up. Thanks for this very informative video, this hardcover box set looks like the way to go, worth it just as an art collection.

YEah. I mainly remember him from the classic 2000AD and Judge Dredd stories he drew. IF only he'd come out of retirement for one last epic!!
Just finished reading through these last week. Overall, I liked it. My favorite stories were Riddler, Ra’s, and Clayface.
Thanks for the video! IMO a Mad Hatter, Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, Black Mask, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange, Viktor Zsasz, Killer Croc, Hush storyline could be the next One Bad Day chapter.

I've been slowly building the box set as these released (still need to read the last couple). Nothing life changing, but a cool addition to the library.
I do like the look of this box set, but shelf space is low and I bet they put out an omnibus at a cheaper price.
Got my hands on some books for Batman day at my LCS but skipped this box set. Will probably check the stories out on DC Infinite app and see if it is any good. I've only read the Catwoman one.

Thanks for the overview Omar. Maybe an omni if they ever do one. I would've thought they'd do a Harley Quin and Scarecrow one. They are two of the bigger Batman baddies. I would also like to see Black Mask, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Firefly, Mad Hatter and Professor Pyg. Bolland did draw Pyg in that Tec' 1,000 variant so at least Bolland's interested in him. Haha. killer croc would be great because it could show how other mistreating him turned him into a monster in one bad day
I think Killer Croc has the potential to be one of the best ones. I also wanted to point out that the one bad theme didn't even apply to the Joker's "origin" story in Killing Joke. It played out over many days. Take care and peace everyone.
I've got 2 of these set's there's a standard version and a DM version (you've got the standard version) It's just a slightly different slipcase, my favourite was the Riddler book.

I really dislikes the Mr. Freeze one. It made his relationship with Nora really creepy and possessive, which is a trend I’m seeing nowadays.
Many of the new writers have this compulsive need to breakdown characters and somehow revolutionize them. In the process they ruin the history of the character. Same is seen in Tom King's Human Target
As a fan of the animated series, I loved the freeze one. I personally love the angle that he’s a bad husband until she’s sick because it gives him a sense of agency that you could totally see this dude becoming freeze even before the suit. That extra layer really does a lot for his character.
There has to be an omnibus of this coming. It just seems perfect for that format. I predict it comes in time for christmas 2024 to avoid any conflict with sales of the box set this year.
Thanks for the review I mostly wanted confirmation that the Killing Joke volume had its original coloring, I don't have any of these books and even half off it's $159 price is pretty steep and it's too bad Brian Bolland didn't do the art on all books but that would have taken it's toll on him since it's obvious Bolland's art was the selling point as his art is adorning the outer box case.

I wish they would add extra blank space on the binded side of the pages so they art isnt hard to see. So many full page artworks ruined by binding.

Doesn't the Mr. Freeze story retcon his origin story so Nora was never sick and wasn't even his wife? And Fries was just obsessed with a woman, kidnapped her and he's preserving her corpse.
Is this the same story?
I may be wrong, but that sounds like The New 52 version of Mr.Freeze told in (The New 52) Batman Annual #1 (2012).
Is the version of the killing joke in the box set better than the deluxe edition sold seperately? Main reason I've been thinking about getting the box set instead of buying them individually is because of the different version of the killing joke but idk which one is better. As far as I know the only difference is the colouring but are there any others? Which colouring do you think is better?
I own the original Killing Joke one shot and I have to admit that I like the new colors better. This slipcase set includes Killing Joke with its original colors restored and a bunch of extras at the end.
Just so you know the artist Brian Bolland was never happy with the original colors. The coloring is by John Higgins who is actually and awesome artist himself. I think the Absolute Edition contains both versions of the colors. If you have a local comic shop try to find a copy of the book opened so you can see the coloring.
I like the new colors, I almost always prefer the newer colors on things tbh, I understand why the originals are important, but honestly it looks better. I will say though, the original colors aren't bad either, it just looks more animated as opposed to realistic.
The original is my childhood, but I love the oversized deluxe and the new colors really add their own flare.
I definitely dig the original colors more. They have a psychedelic look and are more colorful. The new coloring looks very dull and bland. But I think they were just trying to make it look more realistic.
Would DC release it as omni? Should I wait? 🧐

I’ve read them all. They are a mixed bag. DC tried too hard to make Killing Joke stories and the definitely fall short of that admittedly very high bar.
Some of them are really good, others aren’t. I’d recommend checking out Riddler, Freeze,Clayface and Ra’s Al Ghul. The rest aren’t anything special.
Nope, i have read Riddler, Two-Face, Penguin and Mr.Freeze.
Riddler's story is the worst one: it takes itself so seriously but completely misses the characterization of Riddler trying to make him an incredible threat in a way that describing as nosense would be even too kind... basically classical Tom King's stuff on Riddler.
The Two-Face sees a plot that the fans of the character have seen for the 22nd time with the most predictable plot twist ever.
The Penguin one paint him as the most stupid and naive mob boss Gotham has ever see that gets all his empire stolen by his right hand man...this is literally the plot of the first Penguin story but with the roles reversed.
The Mr.Freeze one sees a complete out of character Victor that is "happy" that Nora is in a block of ice because in this way she will never attend any other meeting with other men...they basically trasformed Victor into an abusive husband.
They're all shit in various degrees, stories that should write these Batman's villains true to their characters and instead completely miss the point.
If you want to read better stories on these characters i would suggest the 10 parts of Joker's Asylum, especially the Penguin, Clayface, Killer Croc and Mad Hatter stories that were truly good and some of the best reads on the respective characters
I enjoyed most of them, my favorites are: Bane, Mr. Freeze and Clayface.

Nice box set but pricing is a bit too high. Also if they've decided to make a One Bad Day type of story it should be set somewhere in the past and showcase an event that was transformative for the character (just show us a moment that really is meaningful to them).
For me this was a hit & miss, Riddler was really good (even though Eddie by King has been done this way), Clayface was simply awesome, Freeze was great, Bane was seriously interesting but his tale doesn't exactly fit here.
Unfortunately Catwoman & Penguin are quite forgettable and I was surprised to see them, I wish they did something with Scarecrow instead (since he's a big classic Top 10 villain).
Can anyone tell me if these are standard sized, oversized, or absolute sized? I've watched two overview vids and still don't know. 😢

Batman The killing joke is too edgy? People read the ultimates 1 and 2 THAT is edgy!
For a single issue hardcover version $17.99 while single issue floppy version is 3.99. Kind of a rip off since you can probably get about six out the eight ONE BAD DAY issues floppy version instead of buy one hardcover.
Well the issues were $7.99, so the hardcovers were $10 more. So it's still bad but not quite that bad.
Read these digitally and none of them hooked me. Easy pass in any format.
For me the riddler one turned me off to having any interest in the rest, it’s genuinely a terrible story that’s trying to pretend like it’s on the level of Alan Moores work
I can't support DC bastardizing Alan Moore's work. Especially since he's been very vocal about them. Mainly when it comes to Watchmen. That along the recent events with Fable. Makes it hard for me to want to support DC comics.
