That's probably the longest comment i have ever made on youtube, but all of that to say we love you Micah! And 99% of us out here are super appreciative of all the great content you bring us! Great work! 👏👏👏
Thank you for taking the time to post that comment. I love hearing positives from our community. Yes, I create videos for the 99% and I am grateful that it’s helpful and inspiring. Have an amazing weekend
I never understood how some ppl complain that what is shown is too expensive. The whole point of your videos is explaining the principles of design... not carbon copying what is shown. Of course different materials could be used while still maintaining the same design principle tips. Shoot i've even used free cheap fake grass in my outside "dining room" and gravel for pathways at one point bc i couldn't afford sod or pavers at the time. Those things changed to better materials and finishes as my budget allowed. But at least i got the layout and flow down initially using cheaper materials. That allowed me to still use my yard and tweak the layout, so when i finally put in pavers, I knew the exact placement and dimension they should be for what i wanted to acheive in the end. Don't change your videos Micah... we should be aspiring to the design priciples you present bc they work! Just ignore the ppl who are not able to grasp them and apply them according to where they are financially. Most ppl who comment "it must be nice" are going to be bitter no matter what. They are not going to try be creative using cheaper materials or working a little at a time. All they want to do is complain.
Thank you Tricia for this amazing comment. I 100% agree and I appreciate your kind words and especially appreciate that you love our content ❤️! Thank u again 🫶
Erhhmm… that’s a touching story and all .. and I’m sure things with your wife will work out or whatever, but I don’t think folks should be taking this terrible advice of using cheap materials in order to force a project they’re under funded for. No offense cheapskate, I think you should stick with the love stories, and let others handle the renovation advice. Sounds like a plan champ? Awesome.
I'm likely one of the minorities on your channel. I watched and studied your videos for months. I came up with a design based on what you teach and talk about then scheduled a call during one of your specials. Forgive me but I don't remember the name of the guy I talked to but we discussed the plans that I came up with, my background in construction and excavation and what I would gain by moving forward with paying you guys. I can't say how much I appreciate his honesty in telling me that I had already done 95% of what you would do, I had a good grasp on what I was doing to finish it and that I would really only be paying for a 3D design. Now, we also talked that you might be able to tweak my design to make it a little different but I didn't think there was enough value in it for me to waste your time to go over what I had already done. What I can say is that you completely changed my thought process and the way I looked at my outdoor spaces. I wish I could post some pictures of what we have done so far so you can see that you are educating some of us to do it on our own. So far we have built a 2 level covered patio on the back of the house, a large pool patio and an inground 16x40 inground pool. Next we will complete the outdoor kitchen under the lower 18x24 covered patio complete with a U shaped bar around the outside of it. We will then build a pergola over a fire pit area (still deciding if it will be sunken or not), and finish off a large area that will be for playing games. We have a 2 acre lot that we bought in 2019 and built our house on so we literally had a blank slate. So far so good, and we are well on our way. Thank you for making these videos and providing the wealth of knowledge to those of us that have the background and ability to use what we learn from you and build our own. I share the link to your channel every chance I get and that is usually multiple times daily on the multiple facebook groups I'm in about backyard design, pool landscaping, etc.
Doug, this post just made my night! I am beyond excited for you and your family. I try to add true value to every video I put out. It’s difficult because I am a designer and a builder but I am still crafting my art of teaching especially on video. My desire to to help people is very high. I’m happy u were able to take my videos and see the vision yourself. I’m sure it’s because u have a background in building and most likely an innate ability for design. I would absolutely love to see your progress and if you don’t mind I would love to show your space off to my community…. I want them to see what they can create by watching my videos. Thank u again for this post and if possible please reach out via email micah@paradiserestored.com
Thanks for sharing some great ideas for smaller projects. Your videos are very inspiring. I’m getting a roof over my pergola next week and a larger privacy shade 😅.
Granted, the example shown still would have been costly however the key tips highlighted throughout, with a little imagination and planning, could absolutely be implemented with a small budget. The way the visuals are used in this video are really helpful in understanding the design elements that will be useful.
I'm trying to stay positive about my small backyard. It's 1000 sq ft on the side of the house and 390 sq ft in the very back. It's driving me crazy, because I wanted like 4000 sq ft rectangle in the back. The put a massive setback on my property about 25 ft.
@@humanpez3336 Lmao since writing this, I backed out of that home and picked a different home entirely! My home now has 2200 sq ft in the back. I am relieved! I just couldn't deal with that tiny backyard, plus the fence being 11 ft from the back of the home! This was a KB new build, and they shafted me along the way when it came to homesite plan fit (refused to show me the plot fit numbers until AFTER they took my EMD of $2500 🙄😒. I am soooo glad I backed out! I'm closing on my new home in about 60 days.
Hi, I live in Toronto area, my back yard is small(23ft depth by 43ft wide, from the fence to the wall of the house). I have neighbor on a higher level and they can see our backyard easily. Do you design for Toronto area and build as well? Wasn't sure if you are based off only US.
Great makeovers once again but I think my idea of a small backyard must be a bit different from a more urban aspect. Most of the urban sites in Auckland would be way less you would be lucky to have a 4m x 6m to work with then this is all tempered with permeable limits so all that paving would just not be a go. 20-30 years ago it was more like what you have in the video now infill housing is the norm and town housing. Keep up the great work always inspirational!
Thank you Ian. I really appreciate you comment I have seen similar trends in urban areas. I’m happy that people still want to carve out a small areas for backyard living. It truly adds so much to our busy lives. Have a wonderful day
@@BackyardDesignGuy Absolutely, agree Mikah, more innovative designs from architects and landscape designers like yourself are definitely helping to get people outside and use the space. Even things like the car lifts for storage of cars in garages and turntables for cars all helping to free up some space.
Approx how much did this cost? I need to find a plan, for a hot dry desert, in a backyard with spies around me. I need to have it scalable and though about using shade sails and decomposed granite, instead of pavers.
I own a carriage home and have a small backyard. I have about $5000-$6000 that I’d love to spend to create a outdoor space but everyone I bring in are charging me a arm and a leg. $12000 or more that I can’t afford and refuse to put myself in debt 😢 any suggestions?

What are low cost tall shrubs that are suitable for Colorado?

Torture with that setback! But Don't get discouraged! You'd be amazed what can be done in a small space!

Now make this reasonable for Canadian winters haha
Lol. I’m working on it 🤪
Hello Micah! I would love to have our small yard Michigan project showcased on one of your videos!
I want to do it please Greg! Thank u sir
Do you create plans or designs? I really want to expand our yard to include a kitchen and sitting area
Yes - 3d design www.backyardlivingguyde.com/3d-design-process

Need help with making over backyard, want to use pavers . Can you actually help with this project?
What ideas do you have for a really large yard and small budget? We have a great large deck space, but nothing taking us to the yard. Ideas?

What is the budget for this because this does not look super budget friendly.
I am going to Portland in July 2023, wanted to check out your location but the address on your website is not correct. It shows some small business
I have moved the whole team to work from home. If u want u can come hang in our outdoor living space 🤪
Thanks dude 🍺🍻. 🥴

Beautiful makeovers but most not quite budget friendly enough for me.
You can skip the first 5 minutes if you're here for the ideas.
