- In this Music Matchup, Mark and Ricky compare Suicidal Tendencies "Institutionalized" to Body Count's cover.
The original music video is iconic at this point, and Body Count's cover is both a loving tribute to the original while also being an hysterical parody of Ice-T's anger issues. So grab your Pepsi drink and let's dig in to this video before someone puts Mark and Ricky in an institution because they think it's the only solution!

Never been so impressed with a cover version before! Body Count made that song their own….
They did! I saw them do this live right after they recorded it and it was fantastic. I had no idea they had covered it, so when that riff started in concert I was so pumped.
Mike's parents are played by Jack Nance (famously of Eraserhead, and up until his death, every other David Lynch project) and Mary Woronov (of Eating Raoul, Rock N Roll High School, etc.)...both very big cult-movie actors.

And when we saw Body Count perform this song, two things were immediately obvious: 1. How much they LOVE the original song; 2. How much FUN their version was for them to do.

Recording in 83 cassette tapes to 2019 digital music is a big difference in sound.
I was in a strange place in the 90’s and then Suicidal Tendencies tape at a goodwill changes my perspective and outlook. Lol
