  • As part of the College's Black History Month programming in 1988, Dr. Bruce Bridges, lecturer and host of the Cultural Awareness Seminar radio show in Durham, NC, offered a presentation on African-American Contributions to World Civilizations at Downtown, Kent, North, and South Campus.
Dr. Bridges begins by decrying the grave state of miseducation in America, specifically leaning into Carter G. Woodson's sense of miseducation as eliding Black history (for instance, de-emphasizing the history of Egypt as an African nation). He encourages students to listen critically to what they are taught, to ask questions and be curious and seek out the stories they aren't told. He gives examples of forgotten Black history, including Egyptian architect and physician Imhotep. The session concludes with a Q&A.
This event took place on Thursday, February 4, 1988 at FSCJ’s North Campus.
