Unfortunately, furry creatures sometimes can’t be furry in amigurumi. You try to buy special yarn that just doesn’t work up the way you had imagined. And then there you are, stuck with a funky shaped creature that maybe cute in its own special ugly dog way.
But all would be better if you could just pick what you wanted to be fuzzy and shazam your normal yarn gets a new dimension of fluffy! In this how to crochet video I show you how to use a pet slicker brush to give your projects an extra dimension of cuteness!

@@nadinesmith-jensen7732 An acrylic or wool blend yarn is best for this. Yarn like cotton, blanket or plush will not work.

Yes and also it’s way easier to crochet with a yarn that you can see the rows very clearly. And you don’t have to worry about color matching if you are doing something like this with multiple textures in the same color.

This is a technique us doll customized use to make wigs too, we use a hair straightener afterward and it looks just like fluffy and soft human hair!

@@AMenagerieofStitchesWig hats for people too. It makes for a great hat, and you can use all the fluff to needle felt shapes like ears too! If you make the fur intentionally long, knot it to have a loop like you are connecting tails left long... you can then clip the end of the loop unravel it slicker it out and then iron it soft, flat, and shiny.
I could never get it to work for me. The yarn would just all break off as I brushed it
@@jezreelbullock6280 you want to unravel the stands of it first, I also recommend flattening it with a straighener before the slicker brush, that said it will only go as long as the fibers are thick is around 4-6 inches at most. Once its brushed out, a comb and a nice slow pull through the straightener again will make it soft and shiny.

I recommend plush yarn or baby yarn. (I work in a huge wool shop)
Let her play with it for a couple months and it will start looking fluffy all by itself

I made chewbacca with this technique recently! Works great but i would recommend to be careful to not brush too much, it can cause damage to the yarn, which i found out the hard way lol also srry for the bad english

@A Menagerie of Stitches surprisingly I have a Parsons Jack Russell, which are ratters. But she loves to watch them while I feed them, and yeah, she gets excited cause she wants to play. So I'll make her one so she'll have a little buddy for inside to make her happy.

I did this when I first started doing amigurumi like 12 years ago, and I didn't learn it from anyone, it was my own idea! I even used my cat's brush and finished it with a Barbie doll's brush haha I didn't know it was a technique
It's really just something some of my patterns use, and I wanted to show others how easy it can be...I have been finding out that lots of people do this for many different fiber arts applications too!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Be careful! If your stiches aren't tight enough the brushing can pull up loops or undo a stich all together!
I've never had any issues with loops pulling up or even a stitch coming undone but this is a great tip for others! 💕💕💕

I’m dealing with the opposite issue. My amigurumis are coming out fuzzy cause I’m new to crochet and overworking my yarn or something.
This can definitely happen! Sometimes you can accidentally split the yarn when trying to yarn over and it will do something like this 💖💖 I often have the ramen problem because I'm pulling my stitches out so much from problem solving!! 😅😅

I made a costume wig in high school doing this - basically shredded the yarn until it fluffed the way I wanted and then weaved it into a cap. Also shredded my hands and legs doing this 😂

I think it would be good to say what yarns are NOT good with this technique. I’d never try to brush Premier Parfait Chunky yarn using this technique as it would fall apart.
Definitely! I think it's a given not to do this on Parfait Chunky though because that type of yarn is notorious for shedding.

this makes me think of how in middleschool I used to make fake wolf tails using yarn. Made a core of braided yarn or just a long single chain. Tied yarn in knots around it then brushed the loose ends of the knot till they fluffed. they took days of work time to make but they were probably the first yarn craft I actually finished.

For the oposite effect, if your yarn is too fluffy, you can always get a ligher near it and it gets rid of all the little fuzzy bits and makes it look neater
