Fun fact: The age gap between Catherine and Francis was actually rather small. They were planning to get married, but Mannox told her aunt (the duchess) about it, and they were separated and never saw each other again.
(The reason Mannox was salty at her was because Catherine actually informed her father that Mannox r*ped her.

- Her birthdate is a mystery, but most recent estimates put her year of birth at about 1523 or 1522. No official documents of her birth exist, so most figures are based around the wills of her relatives or charters of the households she served in.
- There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to spell her name, as there was no standardised system of spelling in the Tudor period. Historians have variously spelt her name as ‘Catherine’ or ‘Katherine’, but in her letter to Culpeper she herself wrote it as ‘Katheryn’.
- She could play the virginals.
- She was a lady-in-waiting to Anne of Cleves.
- Catherine was educated in etiquette. She took her duties as queen seriously and carried out plenty of kind acts, such as sending warm sheets to the imprisoned Margaret Pole and securing a pardon for Sir Thomas Wyatt. Catherine also gifted Anne of Cleves two puppies and ring, despite the presents originally being for her.
- Henry VIII probably never called Catherine his ‘rose without a thorn’. The phrase comes from a coin struck in 1526, years before the two were married, which bore the words ‘Henry VIII, the dazzling rose without a thorn’.

Eyewitness Ottwell Johnson recorded how she declared her ‘lively faith in the blood of Christ only’ and then asked for ‘all Christian people to take regard unto [her] worthy and just punishment’.
- The story about her collapsing and needing help to climb the scaffold does have some historical basis, as it comes from a recording by Charles de Marillac. However, this needs to be taken with a small pinch of salt since Marillac was not an eyewitness.

A sad fact about Katharine and Francis is that many historians do believe they were genuinely in love, on both ends. Sadly, Henry Mannox was a bastard and reported the relationship to the Dowager duchesses who separated them. Francis and Kathrine were already planning on getting married, *He had already given her control of the finances, which was the wife's job.* This, caused Derham to be executed.
*I have grossly oversimplified things since I am no means a Tudor expert. My main period of expertise lies in the 18th/19th and 20th centries, so if you want to do your own research, you may. Just remember that this is an oversimplification*

I love the detail of Thomas' shadow showing his true colors
When I first listened to this before realizing the true story, I thought she was happy for this all to happen but now I know the full story it's truly devastating-but it's thanks to animators like you showing what really happened, and not portraying her as the bad guy but instead innocent! But honestly 'playtimes over' is the most heartbreaking line of this song, because she's basically saying her childhood was over when it just started because of everything that happened to her-
When she's with Thomas and she says "Thomas is there to lend a helping hand" I just discovered that his shadow foreshadows what kind of man he is. Also love the detail with her heart being yellow (colour of friendship) and Thomas being red (lust and passion)

One of the things that I like about this song is that it starts out sexy and confident but as it goes on, the chorus, which stays the same except for a few lines, starts to sound less fun and sexy and more tragic and horrifying. It's like as time passes, and she grows up and matures, she realizes how fucked up her life really is. And it happens a lot more subtly than in Don't Lose Ur Head, where Anne Boleyn only acknowledges that she's fucked when she's crying "What was I meant to do?" But then she goes back to being bubbly and happy. But this song is just one long trainwreck that's slowly unfurling.

Every time I hear this I just think of all the euphemisms and it hurts. She was just a baby being manipulated by grown ass men and to make it sadder, women back then didn't have the right or power to say no to guys. Also HENRY WAS OLD ENOUGH TO BE HER DAD.
Also she was beheaded by axe which took a long time and was super painful for her because the axe guy was incompetent and would hit her back and head many times while hacking away so she would've died from the pain of that faster than anything. (I was told this when I was 12 and not only had a month of recurring nightmares because we were shown interpretive drawings of moments before and during, I was also sent home from school because I excused myself to the bathrooms and threw up because of the images shown and the mental images. Still, that teacher was one of the best history teachers I had and she sent my friends out for me and came down to the office to check in on me with some water while I waited for my mom to pick me up)

We actually really don't know his age. It is often said that he was 36 but there is no real contemporary source for that. Based on circumstantial evidence (the fact that he was unmarried, the ages of his friends, etc), it's more likely that he was 23 than 36 - but, in the end, we don't know for certain.
Oh, and Catherine was probably 13 when their 'relationship' started, but again, we can't be sure. She is thought to have been born somewhere in 1523 and she most likely was, based on available facts, but we have no definitive date of birth for either of them.

I've been binging Six animatics over the past few days, and there's a couple things that keep hitting me with All You Wanna Do.
1) The abrupt harshness in her voice as she goes from "I was thirteen" to "going on thirty" feels like it's not her own turn of phrase, as if she's recalling Mannox saying it to justify his actions. Like, she's so mature for her age, he doesn't really think of her as a child. 🤢
2) The repeated motif of duties/responsibilities being used as a means to entrap her. It feels like she's desperately seeking, not romantic love, but a route to validation beyond "ur hawt." And everyone around her keeps bringing it back to her looks. Just... keep your damn quill in your pants and compliment the girl on something completely non-euphemistic. Thank her for preparing vellum. For keeping the account books tidy. For opening the window on a hot day. Anything, FFS.
Honestly, Kathrine Howard deservers more love! Like, her story is is honestly super tragic. This bean is my favorite
