I worked for Mars making Uncle Ben's pouched rice for 5yrs. The smell is from the exterior of the pouch so nothing to worry about. It's caused by the microwave process on the outer layers where the artwork is. Those pouches are made of at least 5 layers of which the inner layers are protective of the product and the outer layer is for art. You're simply blessed/cursed with a very good olfactory system 😁
Tilda always has an aftertaste I suspect it’s the preservatives . Strange how preservatives prolong life of rice etc but shorten lives of those who eat them .
I'd never bother buying chilli these days. Making the stuff is pretty no fuss and I don't even bother putting mince in it any more - just a couple cans of mixed beans for the protein some diced onion and peppers and chillies, a few cans of really high quality tomatoes and throw enough paprika, chilli powder, cumic, some stock etc. etc. till it tastes nice.
Just the chilli with a nice well buttered baguette would do me. And I found out that to get the last out of a packet like that is to fold it in half then squeeze the bag.
Getting tbose thick chilled gravy style meals from the bag can be a workout. The trick is to warm the bag a little either in warm water or the microwave if safe to do so. Makes life easier. I made my own CCC the other day and added a medium heat salsa to the ingredients. Very nice indeed. Cheers Gareth 👍😀🤤
Another great review... I agree with you regarding microwave rice pouches having a plastic smell.... But they normally taste OK ish...... Although it said 500g on the box... It looked a lot less... Maybe try weighing the actual food in future, see if you can catch them out...😂 A lil tip.... When squeezing things like that chilli out of the packet.... Pop a lid on the saucepan and use the lid to squeeze it out.... Much faster and less frustrating to....x
I like the beef chill with the mince finely ground like that. If it's pulled beef brisket then even better but not a fan of chunks of beef generally as you are odds on to get something chewy. Will need to give this a go - usually add a portion of steam in the bag basmati or Lidl's version of savoury rice.
I love stagg chili. Beats the pants off of any hormel or any other canned chilli brand. Most canned chilli in the US has a half inch of grease sitting on the top, stagg does not.
3:15 I _would_ heat this in hot water. Not necessarily boiling, but quite hot. Sous vide cooking is used a lot by some chefs and I've done it, too. I always heat boil-in-the-bag kippers in a pan of water, even though the label says you can microwave them. You can't taste much beef, because it contains only 30%.
Another bowl of sugar ( about 6 different lots ) with some other bits in then Gareth. You are indeed a brave soul.😊 Thank you kindly, I shall swerve around this one. Hope your next one fairs better.
I wish there was something like that in Montréal. I miss Edinburgh & Aldi. It looks really yummy i could do that with frozen chips with grated cheese melted on top😋. Xx
Nice one. This must have been interesting to make. It feels like Chilli Roulette. You can't beat home made chilli. As much beef as you like, as hot as you like. But it takes bloody ages. All that washing up and work as well. We skip the Kidney Beans. I think they are a British addition to save on meat? They always seem out-of-place. The beans are not in South American themed restaurant dishes. Great fun watching you though, Cheers.
A veritable cornucopia of different words for sugar, plus rapeseed oil and sunflower oil means I wouldn't fed it to a dog (apart from the fact dogs can't eat onions). The fact that the beef is ground so fine leads my to believe it's not exactly ground ribeye steak 🤣.
Let’s face it. If you can’t make a half decent chilli you need help. It’s like the easiest thing to make ever and one of the easiest things to batch cook and freeze. Having tried lots of convenience chillis none are worth the money. Make your own and enjoy the quality and taste.
Looks ok 👍 i buy the rice pouches, but I do put it into a bowl and cover with cling film before heating. It takes that plastic taste away. Thanks for sharing 👍
You don't get a lot for £3.50. I think I'll be sticking to the £2 tins of chilli from Lidl, they're spot on! "Took probably about three minutes to squeeze it all out, didn't enjoy doing that!" 😂😂😂
I would have added an extra tin of chilli beans and some Reaper chilli powder to the mix. Most recipes like chilli con carne and spag bol bought in store always have been very well ground down, so they are really just a sauce mix rather than a meaty meal. I prefer to make my own. But not everyone has the time to do that. Another great review m8.
Tip: The 2 min microwave rice do have a plasticy taste to them, I get around this by emptying the rice into a sistema microwave pot and then zap the rice 😊
I've tried most of them and my favourite is- Tilda Basmati microwave rice VEETEE basmati microwave rice VEETEE long grain microwave rice* *Best with chilli con carne
Looks like a typical tinned chilli con carne but dearer. Cheaper in a tin from Lidl. Rice cheaper in Lidl too but not Tilda but just as good. Beef is never in chunks in a chili always ground up. Still looked OK but dear. I make my own from 5% beef mince and loads of kidney beans tomato paste and lot of red wine in the cooking.
Thanks for taking one for the team, I've thought about ready rice but never bought it yet. Also, addressing the elephant in the room, are you growing a 'Pornstar Moustache'?
The ground beef is more American style. We use minced which is thicker. Still looks alright for the money. Had a microwave curry the other day from Waitrose - normally £6. Currently £2.89.
You're looking very trim Gareth. I'm looking forward to an update on your Movember challenge on your other channel. I couldn't eat this from Aldi, I'm afraid. It's hard to know what to eat these days. Thank you for your review. Take good care 👍
Well, the ingredients look ok rather than Awful, and you can't really go wrong with rice( I use a Rice Cooker, you really can't go wrong with one of those). But it looks Nasty to tell the truth. I'd go with mediocre, rather than Awful. P.s. I love cheese, cheddar extra mature , feta, mozzarella (fresh) Parmesan, again only fresh, not the stuff in a Plastic Container.
The first question is when are you getting a tattoo on the finger one that says ''TAB SYSTEM''. It is a great shame because we do like a good chilli and the rice a bit of a disappointment as they looked really good grains. Pity as the pair could have been so good:(.
I really can knock up a Chilli con carne in an hour to our spice/chili...taste as you go...(I know you can do this too Gaz) specifications.. ,with rice too..nice video as always and always entertaining but I would NOT buy that
Nothing to do with this excellent video. Just saw the tub of celebrations in the background have you noticed how much all these tubs of chocolate have shrunk and the price has gone up. Just saying 😂 could be a subject for a video.
A two for one today Gaz..? Neither delivered though, sadly! Great review though all the same.😂. On a positive note, the beard and hair are coming along nicely😂🧔♂️..👍🏴
I don't like the tilda rice. For me the veet rice snap pots are the best. Quite small portion but taste great, 2 snapots for about £1.25 and only 1 min in the microwave
“Ah’ve bin shoppin’.” 😊 The best set-up line on all of TH-cam 😂
Better - “Hope you’re all spot on” 👍🤣

The Tilda Basmati microwave rice only contains rice and a little 'rice bran oil'. (Oil from the husk of the rice).
Yeah and apparently the worms don't like us anymore because of preservatives.
A eat tilde rice microwave all the time, don't find any after taste
Rather have a tin of stagg chilli, by far the best tinned chilli.🎉
Do u ever make your own chilli con carne ?
@@tucoramirez3333 yes
Especially the Dynamite hot one !
@@frankbibby1636👍
The disappointing splat when it hit the pan said it all.
i had a morning like that. . .
You know you're in trouble when the grains of rice are bigger than the bits of meat.
Lol! I guess its time for the next chapter of "war and peace" while sitting on the loo...thanks for sharing! San Antonio TX, US

Another good one Gareth. I agree with your thing about rice I find that too, also same with the lack of chucks of meat.
Yes couldn't find any unfortunately
Serving suggestion: serves 2 munchkins 😂
Just the chilli with a nice well buttered baguette would do me. And I found out that to get the last out of a packet like that is to fold it in half then squeeze the bag.
Looks like a dogs dinner, can't beat home made chilly, All the best Gareth Tim 👍

One of those foods that look the same going in or coming out!
Another great review...

I bought this a couple of weeks ago, had it with Tilda Rice. Not bad for the money. Would buy again
I make my own chilli it's easiest thing ever. I cook a kilo of mince and it makes me 8 dinners, freeze a lot of it and just have it whenever.
I love stagg chili. Beats the pants off of any hormel or any other canned chilli brand. Most canned chilli in the US has a half inch of grease sitting on the top, stagg does not.

Lest we forget 🫡
I tried tilda rice for the first time last night, the plastic smell from the microwave was unbearable, glad you reviewed it as I thought I had a dud.
Another bowl of sugar ( about 6 different lots ) with some other bits in then Gareth.
You are indeed a brave soul.😊
Thank you kindly, I shall swerve around this one.
Hope your next one fairs better.
Yer killing me Captain 😂 🙌
Hi Gareth. I've been to Iceland today and noticed heinz barbecue and also heinz tikka beans. Something for you to try.
I used to notice a gritty texture with soya mince, Howe, that was back in the days before beef got minced to a mush. Happy days.
Great review Gaz it put me off watching you squeeze one out I hope it didn’t sting 🤣🤣👍👍
I wish there was something like that in Montréal. I miss Edinburgh & Aldi. It looks really yummy i could do that with frozen chips with grated cheese melted on top😋. Xx
Cheers Gaz …. Smithy
TH-cam is bonkers. I’ve just watched a video on how to have a customised Aston Martin made to your own specifications and now I’m here!
3 minutes to squeeze it all out is admirable at our age 😉

Getting it out of the packet put me right off😜🤣😂🤣😘. Not for me . 👍🏼❤️😘
Looks like an IV hookup!

30% beef?? How much donkey/ horse ..........
Hi Gaz next time you get a bag product Roll it up from the unopened like you do toothpaste simple!!
Looks ok 👍 i buy the rice pouches, but I do put it into a bowl and cover with cling film before heating. It takes that plastic taste away. Thanks for sharing 👍

it often takes me three minutes or more to 'squeeze one out'
Best way to empty those bags is to place a large wooden spoon at the base and roll it up like you would with a toothpaste tube.
Tip: The 2 min microwave rice do have a plasticy taste to them, I get around this by emptying the rice into a sistema microwave pot and then zap the rice 😊
Another honest review. I use microwave rice from time to time. You always get that plastic smell unfortunately 🙄
When you squeezed that out, looked like a day after the night before 😂 Love your content as always 💪
I've tried most of them and my favourite is-
Tilda Basmati microwave rice
VEETEE basmati microwave rice
VEETEE long grain microwave rice*
*Best with chilli con carne
Thanks for another honest review 💜💜💜
😊You are so welcome!
Probably easier to freeze, then remove from the bag while frozen and let it defrost in the pan
Big fan of Sainsburys slow cooked range and had chicken shawarma from Aldi recently which was very nice.

Brilliant review, agreed with you on what you said. 👍
You definitely 100% need a American style check shirt and cap and pick up truck for that tash that's thinking about coming Gareth lad 😂👍
And start calling Mrs Morgan dolly 😂
The chilli looks like the kind of chilli you get on a chilli dog in America
You're looking very trim Gareth. I'm looking forward to an update on your Movember challenge on your other channel.

Aye you are not buzzing with that one mate - stay good 👍👍
chilli con carne is mince. I mean no hate. Love you ❤
At least this one did not go to waste.
Afternoon ❤
mhmm
home made for me. but i do like stag ,
Gareth, try chips with your Chilli.
Happy Friday
It's like Beef puree Gareth 😅👍
Almost vegetarian with that beef Gareth!!
😂

You actually look cool with that beardache and a bit of hair Gaz.. you should keep it.
Last time i saw something like that Gaz i had to take antibiotics for it 🤮
I really can knock up a Chilli con carne in an hour to our spice/chili...taste as you go...(I know you can do this too Gaz) specifications.. ,with rice too..nice video as always and always entertaining but I would NOT buy that
Hi Gareth, Had this last week i'm with you on this one, it's nice but the chilli beef is grainy, I have had better. have a good weekend Take care
It's mince!
Not a knock on your review mate but that looks rank to be fair. Hope one has a good weekend 🎉
Nothing to do with this excellent video. Just saw the tub of celebrations in the background have you noticed how much all these tubs of chocolate have shrunk and the price has gone up. Just saying 😂 could be a subject for a video.
SHOULD OF ADDED SOME GRATED CHEESE TO IT. OR PUT IT ON TOP OF A JACKET SPUD
I brought this from aldi just yesterday, still in the freezer but i think i might have it for the weekend maybe 😂
HI good video one on the fence. stay strong 👍👍👌👌
Thanks 👍
We re not great lovers of kidney beans when i make a chilli i put heinz chilli beans in it instead of kidney beans
Sitting by the pool in florida mate that reminds of one of those manky vesta curries😂😂
Enjoy your swim
@BaldFoodieGuy will do mate
It looked tasty, but no f**king way I'm eating stuff that tastes of plastic, lol.😂😂😂
A two for one today Gaz..? Neither delivered though, sadly! Great review though all the same.😂. On a positive note, the beard and hair are coming along nicely😂🧔♂️..👍🏴
its bones ground with a bit of beef
You are thinking of the cheaper version
GB EQ040 is Creative Foods, Burton-on-Trent
would you bring out your own food range ?one day
So you're saying you needed CIA agents to find the beef! 🤣🤣🤣
Those Mexican type rices are not great IMO.
I would go with plain rice with nachos.
I've had pretty much every brand of those microwave rice pouches and they all have that same unpleasant smell.
How's the not boozing coming along mate , still on the wagon , not seen an update in a while ?
He's got another channel
@philipjones9458 cheers mate what's the name of it ?
@bobmathews9072 cheers mate yes it's called bald foodie guy lifestyle 👌 booze update coming tomorrow 😊
@BaldFoodieGuy cheers pal I'll get over there and sub , look forward to the update 👍
It sounds great and you’re making me hungry 😂
Really hate wen you don't get ur moneys worth just a rip off small portion big bloody prices wat a joke
Nice in backed potatoe ❤
Looks interesting not keen too spicy for me might be alright with a pint Saturday night
Rather make my own chilli 🌶 😋
That’s only fit for the bin 🤢Homemade chilli is the best 🌶️Great review & thanks for sharing Gareth 🤗🥣
Beef paste then.
🙏👍
I don't like the tilda rice.
For me the veet rice snap pots are the best. Quite small portion but taste great, 2 snapots for about £1.25 and only 1 min in the microwave
Just went to Aldi and saw some dates! No country of origin so I suspect they came from a country I do not buy from! What else is hidden?
👍
Like deployed 👍
