7 years later and this is still my favourite magic clip
Now it's my favorite after 13yrs
Awesome routine and not surprising to hear this guy was unanimously voted Magician of the Year. It's very easy to watch a performance like this on TH-cam and look for moves and subtleties with the benefit of replay, but you have to keep it in context. As a spectator at the live performance, you'd never notice any of it and you'd still be wondering how he did one thing whilst he was revealing anther. This is true showmanship. Very well done sir.
Great seeing this routine again, it popped up in my recommendations. James took my watch and materialised a pot of jam, years ago. He is so bloody quick with his moves and words. Brilliant.....
I do a bit of card magic but none of this spotless behind the shoulder/watch stuff. Watching this has given me so many ideas it's really inspirational. It's cool to see what can be achieved with hard work and talent. I think seeing a 'normal' looking guy around my age doing it is the biggest attraction- Thank you for posting it!
Holy smokes, I could not tell at all where that was going. Lots of suprises and great interactions with the audience. I loved it
This is my kind of magic! I'm not really into fancy bullshit like making elephants appear and all that other crap. Close up magic shows the most talent.
All these people saying "I know how he does it" or "I saw him do this or that", so what? We all KNOW it's not real. Just because I know how something is done doesn't mean that I have the skills necessary to do it. I know how singers sing, but I'm still shit at it.
This guy's speed and misdirection skills are amazing.
If most of the spectators can see how he did it, it's not a good magic show, that's so what.
mychannel
With close-up magic, it's not about the other spectators. It's all about fooling the people right in front of you in a way that's entertaining to the rest of the crowd. One way to entertain the crowd is to make fools of the people near you, and if it's obvious how you did it then the rest of the crowd gets to feel like they know something the fools near you don't. It's part of the show.
***** That's awful. Sounds even worse than regular magic shows.
mychannel It's not all that awful. It's in line with typical comedy and stage shows.
+mychannel Some famous tricks from Penn and Teller relies on that.
I am from Pakistan and I also like to perform street magic.
This the best original work I have seen. This video is PURE skill. Keep doing the good work Mr.Brown
Broo...once upon a time I started practicing by watching this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
cant say say word... every single time I watch this video again its give same fresh strong joy.. :)
This is a great video. James Brown is really showing that magic is indeed a Brain Game. This far more entertaining than the usual magic tricks that we get to see form most other magicians, Brilliant indeed.
this is one of the most amazing routines i have ever seen. i would be happy to have a fraction of James Brown's skill.
Very good presentation, and some funny moments too , i like when magic mix a little comedy in it , real good , congratulations.
This guy is a master of misdirection. He has a winning personality too which really helps as it allows the spectator to enjoy being misdirected in a non-challenging manner. They know that it's not real magic but he plays with their expectations and constantly thwarts them in an entertaining way so it's fun for them. Anyone who watches this who says they know how it's done is completely missing the point. If they were there in person, they'd be just a fooled by James and would probably also enjoy it as much as his spectators do here. Fantastic stuff!
James is a friend of mine and my family and we all think that he is fantastic, if anyone gets the chance to see him perform in person you should do it, i could watch him over and over and always be amazed !
I love how when you said "currently" during the card under watch, he said "of course at the exact same time.
You are incredible well done on achieving such mastery - and so young. Imagine, 1000s of hours off hard work went into it
After many years stll my fwt magic video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very good stuff !! Love the close up magic!
Incredible speed, two thumbs up!
There's something really nice about watching this. It really gives each and every one of us magic folk something to aspire to... 5 stars mr brown.
your slight of hand and misdirection was fantastic
So glad I found this video, absolutely brilliant and for me a new name (how the hell did you pass under the radar?).
fantastic magic i loved it.
I love his use of the card box utility. Just beautifully improvised in the routine. James Brown, you're the man!
That is truly amazing! What a talented guy!!
this guys sleight of hand is just so perfect!!!
this guys is really good at misdirection. what he does is simple and obvious to a viewer who can rewind and watch everything but i can bet if i was there id be fooled just as easily. too many things to pay attention to
That was a lot of fun to watch.
he's got some very good slight of hand placements very good
Some of them alittle obvious to anyone amongst us who do slight of hand routines
but very slick and very well done
Great stuff!
Just amazing.
Unique and skillful. This is my favorite magic video of the evening. No wonder he was named Magic Circle Close-up Magician of the Year. Tasty.
I really enjoyed that. The opener was snappy and fun. Great use of the vanishing deck and the middle was interesting and involved... Taking it beyond the obvious straight up application. The closer echoed the opening creating a very nice 'bookends' style framing to the routine.
Very cool, I can see why you won.
awesome
you are the best james, a great inspiration for hypnotist and magicians
I know how he did most of them but I couldn't do it myself. It takes lots of practice to get as good as him. I did go back many times to see how he did it and sometimes I didn't even catch it the 2nd or 3rd time. Good job!
Love it. Well done Mr Brown
👏👏👏great job sir
That was awesome!
very well done.
Fantastic close up routine!
Amazing !
James appeared at my wife's birthday. He was the best value since sliced bread. My whole family had the most exciting time with him.
He is amazing!
Excellent 👍
Excellent slieghts and misdirections. Very well done sir! :D
Superb
Magic doesn't have to be a hidden secret trick only known to the intitiates.
I remember Jimmy Page, during a concert in the '70s, slapping his Les Paul with a bow : "Bang!" Then, in an upward fashion, slamming the bow in mid-air to a beam of light : "Bang!" again... :O))
We were just amazed. Then, he changed his rythm slightly so we all can see that this was just a slap-back echo effect. The whole room was pleased at this amusing trickery on his part.
Surprise...
This was magic too.
Well I'm in love with watch stealing and I could tell from the very beginning that he was scouting for someone with an "easy" watch. Lovely performance pure sleight of hand and misdirection! Liked it a lot
that is amazing, really a great routine..
very very good
James always does high calibre magic, Quality!
That was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
From a fellow magi, a joy to watch.
:)
awesome!
I thought the spectator was the magician looking at the thumbnail.
Wow, he is quick! Brilliant!
Fantastic.
your magic is so strong and misdirection so nice !! i applause !!
like the flow of constant surprises, it seems to have a special kind of momentum, that you normally only see with heavily staged and planned acts. can I ask who are your inspirations?
i love your card routine.. it took me a while to figure it out.. but it is misdirection genius..i am going to use the routine with my friends. The only thing i'm missing is the black case
I know how he does that art with the deck disapoearing in the box, but how does he keep the two carsds there without them falling?
Just Beautiful ! :)
lol this is insane, one of the best close up routines ive seen in a long time.
yes
What happens to the box of cards that were in the black box before they push their fingers down. I still dont see the move, he doesnt palm the box? Where does it go
you're great James!
cool stuff.
@eddiedaskull
I think the fact that he does not wear a long sleeved coat etc just adds to his performance, and shows he has nothing hiding up his sleeves, inside jacket pockets etc
Makes it more impressive, in my opinion at least
One word - awesome !!!
5 stars from me :o)
great tricks, great magician. your material is very similar to the stuff that's on the devil's picturebook. lol a little guy hollingworth impression too ( at 4:48 )
Seriously people, it's amazing sleight of hand but of course if you can stop, rewind and pause the video it's going to be "obvious" what he did. The fact that you HAVE to stop, rewind and pause is what makes the magic so damn impressive. Oh, and I'm totalling stealing the move at around 4:00
Great routine
i could see every trick in this vid but im curious wheather i notice anything if he is performing on me
That was awsome! I wish that my sleight of hand was that good. Excelent patter as well.
Great stuff, I really loved how he handled the watch in particular. He was really lucky that they guy didn´t move his shoulder so the watch and even more the coin fell to the floor. I do think they noticed that he had the deck in his lap he was a bit sloppy when he did that.
James Brown is a legend,🃏
Whoa!!!Awesome!!!!!
simple and easy :)
An excellent performance.
An award well deserved! I loved the disappearance of the deck :)
where can I see your penn and teller act?
No idea. Sadly TH-cam removed it for some reason and I don't have another copy
that eye thing was brillant strait up good shit.
i have personally met this magician, and he is absolutely amazing, i actually saw him turn two normal playing cards signed by two people at a wedding into one playing card with the signatures on both side of one card with two faces, by far the bbest magician i have ever seen, from video i can see how he does his things as he is incredibly fast with his slight of hand, but there are some tricks ive seen up close in real life that still keep me puzzled... 5/5
I can figure out a lot of this, but he is good at it, example: at 2:38, he place the watch on zach's shoulder while creating a distraction asking for him to raise his arm higher, which of course if u pay close attention, he steals the watch just moments before
the more you know about thise trick(s) , the more impressiv it is
great routine
omggg he is soo smooth with his moves. but that guy in the blackk was part of the act.
its kind of seeable after rewatching it once or twice, but still very impressive.
This is insanely brilliant.
Magics not about making people look like fools. Not at all, it's entertainment, presentation, mystery, laughter, and technique. Making someone look like a fool is never s good idea in a performance. The audience has the ability to make it way harder on you then you on them. NO ONE likes to be made a fool of. So why not have everyone on your side :-)
I agree completely, the main reason behind hecklers is because they don't want to be made a fool of by the stereotypical magician. Because of this famous idea of the typical magician, it is hard to win the hecklers over with the entertainment part of the trick.
@Konstantin1234 you have to remember that it's a lot harder to do magic in front of a camera, because a camera doesnt react, it doesnt blink! ;)
@theboss1976 Do not listen to critics like Konstantin1234. I have been doing close up and card magic for years, and I have seen some great performers and performaces. This, definitely has to be one of the best performances I have ever seen. You would definitely have gotten my vote for Close Up Magician of the year. Oh, and btw, I absolutely love your effect Box Clever. I just wondered if you could contact me to give me some pointers on it? You rock!!!!!!!!!!!
oh great, another close-up video with 240p.
His audience control is great! he's also very strong about his movements lol
good
Absolutely brilliant ! Never mind the odd negative comment James as every performer no matter how good they are get those don't they ?
@Konstantin1234 - i have seen him perform many times and can assure you that James deserves his 'Close Up Magician of the Year' award !!
Anyone know what the name of the box gimmick is called?
I believe it's just called the vanishing deck. It's a cheap magic trick that I've seen in Dollar stores. This is the first time I've ever seen a pro use one.
Do you know what that trick is called?
I saw al ure misdirected they were pretty good
