    Pretty good review. You kind of started to rush through it towards the end of the video. It might be common sense to some, but for those who are wondering, the key signature in the Master settings menu seems to be only relevant if you are using the Pitch Correct feature in the Maj/Min type instead of Chromatic. Useful if you want to make presets for individual songs in a given key without having to sift through the menus to change the key.

      I completely agree. Thanks for your input. There's definitely enough room for a 12 song set if a person wanted 12 different me Sig's for a live show.

    Hey it's Leanne Tennant here! Thanks for the shoutout, and for answering my question! I bought the Boss VE and found it a lot of fun to use at home, but got a little scared using it live. I'll have to give it another go sometime and will muck around with presets. I now release music under LT so you can find me as LT now!

    Thank you. Found the video informative. Early on it showed an Effect I was looking for. I set up the Boss VE 20 Pedal 2 days ago. The video was good for learning more about what I can do. A quick tip - I've recorded the same song with different effects which makes it easier to compare for how I want it to sound. Some sections sound much better when using a different effect in isolation.

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very good point.
      Some effects sound good when isolated on a single track. Meanwhile they are too small or large when worked into a final mix. Always good to compare and contrast!

      @@newcastlemusicstudios Its really different strokes for different people. Recording and mastering tracks I believe it's personal taste and choice. I think some tracks are overmastered - I'm not a professional audio engineer. With The Bose VE 20 Pedal - it does have the capacity for Stereo Output. A music store questioned why I wanted Y Cabling for recording. Their perspective was it would sound terrible and that it would only record in Mono anyway no matter what configurations I used. That's an opinion. I like to experiment with sounds, special effects, layering and develop pieces. With the person I collaborate with - sometimes we reverse engineer recordings and other times we change compressors and equalizers. We both have Ëquipment Acquiremént Syndrome''. At the moment we are more Spoken Word and putting Evocative Tracks behind them with fairly good results. And because they are Spoken Word pieces it made more to me to buy the Boss VE 20 with its inbuilt effect because it will help our music and with Solo performances say Busking its great tool to have in my armory as a point of difference for what other people are doing. FOMO lol !

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@diegoarenaza5370 you can dial the master up 1st.
      The mic sense can get distorted easily.
      If you have a guy on a mixer or console. Tell him to check his mixer Gain on the channel of the mic.
      It is loud enough with a dynamic microphone. Unless ypur dynamic mic is really cheap. Most people use a shure sm58 or a budget friendly Behringer dynamic ba85A

    Subscribed. But what I hoped to learn is how toi set up the Master volume level and the main effect (left pedal) and say Doubled vocals volume levels so that they are roughly consistent. Where should I start the Mic Sensitivity off at for a good dynamic? For example.

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say 50 and slowly go up. 5p is usually ideal for a condenser microphone but for a dynamic microphone closer to 75.... Depending on the mic model.

  • @remibriere-aube8035
    @remibriere-aube8035 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Is it possible to have two different effects on one preset? For example, can the left pedal activate a radio effect, while the right pedal deactivates the radio effect and applies delay and reverb instead?

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can only go up n Down on presets with the pedal or turn on Harmony or turn it off, it'd make more sense to make 2 similar presets with 1 effect difference to go back n forth from.

    Thanks for this video very helpful. I had a question regarding the output . Is there a way for me to have the harmony and main vocals go separately into the DAW as two separate tracks that I mix separately . If so how do I set this up ?

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, even on a larger 6i6 interface where u can split incoming tracks from inputs, you cannot split the signal from the actual box.
      My best suggest is record it
      2 times.
      Tracck 1 Record the Main Vocal.
      CREATE a 2nd track and record the harmony...
      It will actually sound better anyway.
      If you like harmonies and chorus FX you will eventually see recording multiple tracks maybe 4-6 tracks to create a real harmony or chorus then add a harmony fx track to create a huge shiny layer.

    I'm thinking of buying one and have 3 questions. Can you adjust the amount of correction, not just pick between hard and soft? Does it have a bypass? Would I be able to affects off to talk to the crowd, and back on to sing? Do you need to pick a key for the preset, or will it just correct to the closest note? Thank you for your time.

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its strange n a way with 2 possible functions via pedal or knob. You can ue the pedal to turn on or off the preset, or the harmony. You can also just use the pedal to engage a hrmony efftect.. say when u sing. Chorus etc.
      But you must choose it one way or the other temproarily while in use.
      The best move is to use the pedal for all.
      Have 2 cloned presets next to each other .. but 1 has harmony or pitch correction and the other does not. Or 3 or 4. Hard to use the knob if it is on the floor, so thats why the stepping foot method is better.
      I think the bypass is stepping on both pedals at the same time, then 1 step to go back on to the preset.
      The pitch correct has keys major and minor, it also has a chromatic funtion which i think jist moves u to the closest note you are singing.
      The type is soft, hard, electric, robot. I am not sure if u can adjust those. Because i think the idea is "soft" is unoticeable and hard u caN only hear if u screw up.. robot and electrix are quite obvious. It also has Octave and gender underneath the adjustment on potch correction.

    Since no guitar input, if you put an acoustic guitar up to a mic, plugged into this unit, would acoustic guitar have all the effects that a voice has, technically??!

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it would.
      The autotune-putch correction effect will make the guitar sound terrible. The delay and reverb and other stuff will sound normal.
      I would say it would sound best with a condenser microphone.. when you use a dynamic mic the effects are like 33% less noticeable..

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can feed it into a Laptop via USB Interface with a stand xlr or 1/4 inch cable. If you are singing through it you would want to use a small mixer to route one output to your interface and route the other output to a larger mixer so you can record it and hear it Live.
      I have used it live, it was ok. Depends on your PA setup. One large complaint is it creates kind of a "warbly" feedback when used live in some settings. I was previously asked how to remedy this warble and I suggested do not use the Reverb in a Live setting because when combined with the actual room Reverb.. it is too much and sounds poor. Basically you will need to slowly tweak it within the room you are performing so it sounds best.. that will differ from bar to basement to house or amphitheater etc. But yes it can definitely be used live. If you need help with the Live /mixer setup I could make a video, if your goal is to record the vocal performance live.

Could you do a video of you using the usb? I don't know much about the Boss 500 except to costs like $500, lol. If you want just Harmonies, there are cheaper options, like pedals that only have Harmony Effects. Some people feel the Harmonies sound somewhat artificial or electronically over processed and some people like that... So it is a matter of taste. Helps to have a decent singing voice.. I will definitely make a Video of how I would do that Setup and post the Link Below on this thread tonight or tomorrow when I get a chance. There is also the TC Helicon Voicelive Play Pedal. I did a review on that and own it. It has quadruple the Vocal Processor effects like multiple Harmony Setting vs. just layered Harmonies and robotic effect like the beastie boys used n a few songs as well as multiple Autotune settings. It is definitely my favorite pedal. Priced about the same as the Boss VE20.

    I sing and play guitar in a surf-punk, garage-rock band and I'd like to get that Julian Casablancas "telephone effect". I do like the "hip-hop" and "harmonica" presets since they have that lo-fi, rough, vintage vibe. Question is, what do you think would work best: one of these two presets (with some adjustments i.e. adding some reverb) or to create my own preset and then engage "low-cut", increase "enhancing", add some reverb so as to get that sound? Thank you ☺️

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would do both.
      See how it sounds in the Live Mix versus recording on DAW.
      For example, you may not need as mich reverb or delay etc. In a LIVE mix do to room acoustics.
      Also consider your Practice jam room may have more cho or reverb than an open stage in a bar. So FX can often be turned down so you dont get too much feedback.

      Hello my friend, ve-20 has this possibility ... I will see if I can explain to you how to do this, ok ..... when you are in the DOUBLE / HARMONY function ... and choose which voice to put .. in the case of the Tuesday below ... just turn the button counterclockwise and go to -6th which would be the 3rd low ..... the 5th low is the -4th ...... all this because VE-20 starts counting from UNISON and upwards would be normal counting ... and downwards there is this inversion ...
      It is difficult to explain here but just remember that ..... -4th = 5th low .....
      -6th = 3rd low ....
      I hope I helped and I'm sorry for the translation ... I did it through the google translator.

      @PhilZeGerman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes you can. When you customize your effect like he showed in the video (thanks for that, btw, good video!) you can engage or disengage any of the effects you scroll through in the menu. Like you go to reverb, adjust that the way you want it, then go on to distortion, adjust that, go to delay, adjust that etc. and they should stack up into one delay/distortion/reverb kinda effect that you can then safe to that slot. In the video he turned all those effects off again after showing each one because otherwise the video would have been pretty unbearable to listen to but if he had left them on, they would all be engaged at the same time. You don't have to pick only one per slot.

      Under the vocal Harmony Settings you can combine different octaves of harmonies for a similar effect. Not saying it is necessarily exact. The TC Helicon voicelive play is more diverse in its abilities to program Layered Vocal Harmonies+chorus and other effects.... The Boss Ve20 is somewhat basic in that regard.

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Scale is used specifically in Pitch Correction. When you into pitch correction turn it "on". Then go down to the Notes Scale. You can choose major or minor or Chromatic. The chromatic will adjust your singing to the closest note. If you choose Amaj or Am (a minor) when you sing the pitch correction will move your singing to the closest note in the Scale of A major A Minor or whichever Scale you choose. There is also soft, hard, electric etc. These categories signify how "much" pitch correction is used. Soft is the most unnoticeable.... Whereas Electric sounds more like Auto tune or very robotic.
