Bitter/dark. (Dirty oil).
We used to love the Whaler, was a regular stop for us on way back from the Racing… It then became greasy and bland.. The Frying Pan just a bit up the road is far superior.. It has strange opening hours though
There is another good one in Wetherby called The Frying Pan not that far away which is also excellent.
I know a chip shop that has a sign above it’s door saying 2009 best fish an chips runner up😂

I know where you should try, could help you get a lot of attention also. The Kebab/bus thing that was all over socials maybe 1 year ago. Can’t remember where it is but could be a good shout.

Hey dude good review that's the second video I've seen after the Anstruther chippy u tried as a lover of fish n chips myself I would recommend the merchant chippy in Glasgow on the High Street if u ever visit the city 👍
It's dark simply because the batter had been overcooked. Many fish and chip shops think a good fish and chips should be dark in appearance. Luckily the chips seemed to have escaped overcooking.

some chippys still use beef dripping and put beer or vinger in the batter which can make the it brown ifyou dont come from yorkshire dont come telling us now to cook fish and chips
Oil has started to decompose so the battery will be dark and taste rubbish

Polystyrene container is just one big no no, a professional chipper knows full well that by the time you get home the contents have steamed and gone soggy.
It's not polystyrene it's a biodegradable box.

Honestly the best fish and chips for me is crunchy over done chips bagged up in a complimentary roll. Followed by a twice battered fish on top. A lot of chip shop make the chip an afterthought and that makes me mad like you I'm from the North East which is considered the best place for fish and chips and I'd gladly show you the best paying for my round up there, xx

paul oconnor loads up north we call it traditional fish and chips. Only the soft southerners use oil and charge you a 10er

That batter is massively overcooked and burnt. I would have refused it and asked for a new piece. Wetherby Whaler have gone right downhill in recent years. Murgatroyds in Yeadon is far better.
B B I doubt it Wetherby Whaler is a chain of shops. I think it’s more a case of they care more about sales and profit than quality of product.

In your Fish and Chips reviews, can you stop using a fork? Use your fingers. It will taste better.
If you are ever in Northern Ireland, try out the Fish and Chips from "The Galley", Annalong. Order a Jumbo Haddock and Chips with lashings on salt and vinegar. Take your Fish and Chips down to the seafront, open the paper, and eat the delicious Fish and Chips with your hands. Maybe even a slice of thick white Hovis loaf with a thick spread of real butter...to make a lovely chip butty
A light fish such as cod or haddock needs a delicate batter to compliment it.
This batter looks too dark and acrid, therefore overpowering the fish.
Used to be really good, but we stopped going about 3yrs ago.. Became very greasy and bland

Nemo's in Llangollen is brilliant. Set in a really picturesque place too and just diagonally opposite it is the Oggie shop with the biggest Oggies I have ever seen filled with steak, potato, carrot and leek

Wetherby Whaler, sort ya shit out because 20 years ago you absolutely blew me away… I’m a fussy b’stard and have a good palette, huge haddock, a crispy dark batter and lovely chips.. That fish was half the size of the whaler I got, guess your reputation got to ya and bred complacency…
Brown batter there oil needs changing they just top it up with new oil that taints the flavour of the batter

The problem is easy my friend, the fish was overcooked, & dry, dry because it was overcooked. Personely I would have thrown it back at them, because as far as i know, they usually do a nice peice of fish.
The Fish bank in Sherburn in Elmet is a cracking chippy nearby

From Nottingham and never had a bad meal there.
That looks like they need to change the oil in the fryer, especially if your batter is tasting bitter.

I am from Yorkshire, And the best kebab I've ever had was called the BIG ONE. It was a pound of doner meat, shish kebab, chicken and lamb, served on a naan bread as big as a duvet cover. Also a onion bhajji in there with a shopping bag full of salad. And a chilli sauce I would be happy to intravenus it into my blood stream. And garlic mayo in a tub. Probably shut down now and I can't remember the name of the kebab shop now because one wrecked lol.😆😆😆😆😆😆 Love your videos bro keep em coming.

That looked awful. Kudos for even eating it. I always ask for lightly battered but that was 80% thick batter and 20% fish. Chips looked rank as well. Bet that repeated on you all afternoon!

big thinng with fish n chip is what its cooked in . northern ones are cooked in beef dripping and we like haddock over cod and no skin on it . we have a wetherby whaler near me in leeds and they arnt great . ever in west yorkshire bramley town street go to midgleys ... they kick arse big time ... oh and gyros is pronounced yero... her indoors is a bubble n squeek and says i do the best souvlaki and yeros outside greece . . that batter was in the dripping too long can tell by looking at that . . if ever in pudssey west yorks too try the bearded sailor . get a fish cake . they are bloody great and down the road la bella for a cho chol kebab ... now that is stunning , donner meat , char grilled lamb and chicken breast and real chicken ticka . a thing of beauty for 8 quid
I dont know when a fish fryer needs an oil change, but the batter is a good indicator, to a professional staff. This place has other branches, are they all the same quality. The bigger they are etc etc.

The one in york is 10/10 guess you're to use to eating the southern fish&chips crap that are cooked in veg oil weatherby whaleler is one of best chippys in uk but as you say each to there own
It's the best iv found in nearly 50 years of looking,iv been to york about 10 times and weatherby about 40 and both as good as each other but easier to park at york.
