5:27 I nearly died of laughter. I thought he said "Just because Lance has him, doesn't make him a Dragon. *He's a frog!* " 😂😂 But after rewatching, it was actually "He's a fraud!"
Hey have you seen the Super Mario Monopoly? It adds character powers! And you can even get extra characters in single packs, like Rosalina, Boo and...Luigi?!
Thank you so much for doing these~! I saw this pop up in my subscriptions and literally looked to my friend next to me and yelled "jwittz uploaded another board game video!!" Your content always makes my day. Keep on being awesome. :D
Bobby Gilbert yeah anything physical sure is outdated. While we're at it humans should just give up their physical bodies and become data, skin and bones are so last century
Except many of us *own our original copies of PC games on CDs/DVDs* You could theoretically pirate them, but that defeats the whole point of having a physical copy of the game.
I've been thinking about that, a compilation of the Master Trainer 2 chips, and the 3rd and 4th Gen chips from this game, and maybe the Master Trainer 1 board, and a Master Trainer 1 ruleset, but with Master Trainer 2 Item/Event cards, and with forced trading rules from Master Trainer 2
Might I suggest the 3D Expanding Adventure Series Pokemon Board Games? There were three of them; SS Anne, Pokemon Tower, and Silph Co. They could apparently be played either as individual games, or joined together into one massive conglomerate, and had quite interesting boards. From what I can tell, however, the games are quite hard to find for sale.
Kross Gonzalez yeah but the only thing I really remember was that sometimes when we clicked on the Pokemon Center button it would glitch out and we would have to start the game all over again
I'd love to see a video that's just a tossup of the Pokemon-Themed. Board games by Hasbro and the likes. Pokemon Monopoly, Pokemon Yahtzee, I actually Still own a Gen 1 Pokemon Sorry!. The game is still pretty much the same, but there are occasionally new rules added in to make it unique. And looking at the designs is always fun. (I do remember though that there are multiple versions of the board games, based on generation)
And this is why i made sure my laptop had a dvd cd player before i bought it, too many have no disc player built in and that basically would mean i'd have to buy half the disc games i have again on steam instead of just playing the discs starring me right in the face
JWittz used the term "eBay" at the end of the video. I wonder if like, 50 years from now, people from the future will look at this video and be like "What? eBay? What is that even?" much like how the current generation now doesn't know what "MySpace" means. xD
You were the very first channel I ever subscribed to, I've been with your channel for so long but I see myself not watching your new videos, I want to get back into your channel so bad, and it starts right now, JWittz, NEVER stop
There's a TON of Pokemon-themed board games, he should do a video covering a bunch of them. Like I don't think Pokemon Yahtzee could be its own video, but cover Pokemon Yahtzee with Pokemonopoly and some other stuff...? The various Pokemon memory match card games aren't worth a video, I think.
JWitz I like how your channel is slowly becoming "Obscure Pokémon Merchandise". I like the change. It defiantly makes you stand out from the other Pokémon themed channels.
still have this board game in my closet. i used to play it by myself just for fun xD thanks so much for bringing me this nostalgia trip, those were some better times..
I just remembered how the preview pics of this game (or some similar game featuring chips) from the New York Toy Fair in 2007 were the world's first look at the English names for some Gen IV Pokémon. With many people misreading some of them because the only pic available on the web was blurry and so Croagunk became Croalurk and Drifblim became Gasteam.
I had this game! It was a birthday gift back when DVD games were "the thing." I enjoyed playing it. It's at my parents house now and in poor condition because of how low quality the cards/chips are. I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I'm enjoying relieving my childhood.

DVD games sure were a bizarre fad. They were seemingly everywhere back in the 2000s. Almost every DVD (especially by Disney) made for children had at least one interactive game hidden somewhere. However, DVD board games were less commonplace during that time. However, Disney themselves actually made a DVD board game of their very own: Lilo & Stitch's Island of Adventures which was based on Lilo & Stitch: the Series. You can easily find that board game in good condition and with all of the pieces for relatively cheap nowadays on ebay and other sites.
I heard Brock talking about his food in the clip and I said in my head "Did you bring the jelly-filled donuts?" and then Jwittz goes and says "oh thanks,Brock! Hope you made everyone's 4Kids favorite! Doonuts!!" and I just lost it. Jajajajajajajajajajajaja
I remember finding this at a Walmart many years ago, and now I see it as a hidden gem among Pokemon merchandise. It's cool that you decided to cover this. :) I also thought it would be fun to point this out. One of the example trivia questions on the back says "Which is resistant to Dragon attacks?" and they give you the options of Salamence, Latios, and Dialga. Error?
I actually got a bad copy of the disc, so half the time you land on Team Rocket, IT RESETS YOUR ENTIRE GAME. That's the most threatening Team Rocket has ever felt to me in any Pokemon media, ever.
I have this board game. I don't like it. the dvd doesn't work. the board is symmetrical so no matter what you roll you'll land on the same place. the questions are too easy. the small chips do nothing. my only input is answering questions and choosing what direction to go. the gyms are random. and the anime clips are just a waste of time.
I love the gradual decay of the Master Trainer series, both in terms of rules AND in terms of board quality, this was around the time children's board games got REALLY cheap, such as using cardboard cutouts for everything over actually sculpting things.
The problem with DVD games is you need a DVD player. This is fine if you invite your friends over but probably not possible if your in a board game club. Great video!
I know this is old, but *FYI* there's a third party extension for VLC that allows you to run DVDs (I think it's the same third party .dll that works for Handbrake). I've never had a problem using OBS to record VLC in full screen. DVDs are usually 480x720, 28 fps, so you can tune down the OBS settings to create smaller video files--if you're concerned about efficiency.
I played this game so much as a younger child. The Rocket event was actually broken on my copy, and every time it was selected, the game would crash to the start screen. We would change the rules to for this, either Rocket spaces were a 'roll again' or, the more fun option, that you would instantly lose and he game would start over.
I had two DVD games as a kid (to my memory) Disney Pictionary and Disney Trivial Pursuit. Me and my brother always went for the DVD with pictionary and played it so much that we could answer every question in about three seconds.
I actually have this game and had some fairly fond memories playing it with my brother and sister. We were at Toys R Us for one of the event giveaways that I had begged my mom to take me to after school (I think it was for Manaphy) and decided to look around. My brother was really into trains, and our Toys R Us had a train table set up over near the board game section. So while he was playing with Thomas the Tank Engine, I was looking through the games and saw Champion Island. Blew my mind at the time that there was a Pokemon board game!
The weakness and Strength thing you were talking about with Kadabra is because it only takes the types of gyms into account, not the Pokemon's actual weaknesses.
one good thing I can think of from the box: the board, Not for board gaming, but as inspiration for a post-game challenge like a battle frontier. If you're making a Pokemon fan game or running a Pokemon Pen-and-Paper tabletop role-playing game (that isn't Pokemon Jr.) this sort of thing would be invaluable, in fact In my Pokemon Tabletop United I was planning on having both a Battle Frontier and a "Champion Island" as post-story content.
Ah yes, one of Wartortle's best moves.
T-Pose Tackle.
ah yes, most of a textbook example of this is here!
I've had this game for more than 5 years and I've never noticed it lol

...so the best way to win the "gym" battles... is to battle like Ash.
Seems kinda symbolic to the anime
At least it stays true to its source material I guess

I owned this game and I absolutely loved it for some reason. I guess I just loved Pokemon cause looking back you didnt do all that much.
Same here. Though, I believe our game got wrecked so we threw it out. :(

I had this game. I never remembered this game being so complex- all I remembered was losing EVERY. SINGLE. GYM BATTLE.
I remember I had this game when I was younger. I had a Grovile, and I faced a Lovedisc.
When Lovedisc won, I slammed down the controller, and lost the game.
I hardly ever played it again afterwards.
5:27
I nearly died of laughter. I thought he said "Just because Lance has him, doesn't make him a Dragon. *He's a frog!* " 😂😂 But after rewatching, it was actually "He's a fraud!"

Do you mean Monopoly Gamer? He actually streamed it pre-launch, sponsored by Hasbro! :D www.twitch.tv/videos/160684194

Croutonking65 well it's obsolete technology so it would be illogical to waste that much space in a laptop for a CD player
Croutonking65 agreed
Bobby Gilbert yeah anything physical sure is outdated. While we're at it humans should just give up their physical bodies and become data, skin and bones are so last century
I have a cruddy old computer with a disc drive... One issue however... The disc tray's busted and no-longer opens. I HATE MY TOASTER

You could theoretically pirate them, but that defeats the whole point of having a physical copy of the game.
"You still have to listen to the Team Rocket theme every single time you land on this space."
That is the exact OPPOSITE of a problem!!

He said "Elm's fire types", but he faced Oak (And Jwittz didn't catch that)? Wow, this game's a mess.
They also used the wrong "whose" for the dusklops question.
this game is awesome
"Who's getting voted off the island?" This ain't survivor, is it?
I don't know why, but I love this guys Pokémon videos the most. It easily gets me in a nostalgic mood. 😙
I feel like you could make a great game by combining the other games with each other and this ones.
Wow. The Master Trainer game and then this? I'm getting a next-level nostalgia blast.
Might I suggest the 3D Expanding Adventure Series Pokemon Board Games?

They could apparently be played either as individual games, or joined together into one massive conglomerate, and had quite interesting boards.

you should talk abotu the pokemon monopoly, or even do all nintendo/pokemon monopolys
well than jwittz should buy it off amazon
It's just Monopoly with a new coat of paint on it. It wouldn't have enough interesting content to fill a video.
+Ernie Actually, it has some new rules. Each set of doubles has an extra bonus applied to it, a couple of which are borderline broken.

In the golden age of board games, why hasn't Nintendo came out and licensed any hardcore Pokemon / Mario / whatever board game?
Yagi no one from my generation plays board games anymore
