Ya the engine said f**k this. But it made your dad smile. While he was having fun getting experience something new. Just like you said man. Thats what makes everything worth it. At the end of the day engines can be fixed or replaced. But that memory will last forever.
To be honest thought the big block was badass but this is cool too. I will say this is my inspiration to build a 468 big block long bed 1500 2wd. Aluminum heads.the way the truck sounded 😌

Who cares if people talk smack about the engine blowing 😂 I remember I built a 5.3 for my obs swap and I cheaped out on buying new lifters and used the old ones. One month after install a lifter started ticking hard and I didn’t feel like pulling the heads of just to change lifters so I swapped a 6.0 and put the 5.3 aside for another project. About a year later I bought a 2000 ws6 trans am with a blown ls1 (threw a rod and destroyed the block and both heads) so I decided to swap the 5.3 in. Tore the motor down and put it back together and swapped it…… since it sat a whole year I forgot about the bad lifter and put it back in without even checking them. That was the last time I was lazy when building an engine cuz it sucks to do it more then once 🤣 live and learn
There's a lot off camera that doesn't get seen. We had the truck up to temp idling many times before taking it down the road. And this is the type of issue that even if we drove it nice and gently never going past 30% throttle it would've happened anyway lol
I hate that you hurt the engine. It kind of discourages me when building my 5.3, don’t want to spend my time putting it all together and have something like that happen so soon. Can’t wait to see what’s wrong, hopefully it’s only a rod bearing.
Don't be scared of something going wrong, man. That's like being scared of premature ejaculating, so you just never get in bed with a girl lol sometimes you prejac a little, sometimes you pop a motor. Clean things up, and learn from what happened and go for round 2 lol

Amazing how some of them shits can take abuse for months and never frag a rocker and some just die on start up, thats a used engine though....never know what they been through before you. Like you said, hard part is done now just a simple long block swap and he can get some passes in so we can see the big smile when you throw some real boost to it
Thats just the nature of hot rods. I know a guy down the road from my dad who doesn't race his car at all, sbc Malibu, and he's on his 2nd engine in 2 years, and had it rebuilt already. Had a 350, went to a 406. Put that in and it started to eat something. Pulled it back out and had to go through it again.
Anytime you can make pops happy and put a smile on his face its a great day! If he's happy then hell with anything else lol little engine pull aint nothing for you guys at this point and them 5.3s a dime a dozen so it could definitely be worse. The turbo and other hard work is good just need a lil transplant not the end of the world at least. And on the positive side....thats what you would job security in the youtube world haha plus u never know might just be something simple, hes thinking worst case scenario i bet who know till you get her open

He got the motor pulled apart today and there was definitely an oil starvation issue. It tore up a lot of bearings
