    Thank you for this video. Looking to get this exact card delivered in the next few days installing in my 2019 Mac Pro. Wanted to ask: 1. I do music production (film composer/concert composer) I'm going to use this card with 8TB of storage for my samples used in Kontakt etc... What chunk size do you recommend? 2. Why Mac OS Extended (Journaled) over APFS? I see how you had issues BUT...if APFS worked. Thoughts? Thanks again for these awesome videos.

    • @morgonaut

      @benshirleymusic - each plugin has different format of samples. So to determine what chunk size you need simply look at your current storage and size of your files

    Hi Theresa, what computer would you recommend for something decent to work with for video editing and animation? before we had MacBooks pro mid-2012 and we bought an MSI Stealth GS66 12UGS-002XES - Laptop 15.6" FHD 360Hz (Intel Core i7-12700H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 3070Ti-8GB with windows 11) and it was terrible; we did not even manage to edit a video, we only worked with photoshop, and while editing a photo, the computer hung after a glitch and went to black; we turned it off and tried again. Nothing, it happened again and again, and we have returned it. Now I do not know which computer to choose, we need something that works immediately and urgently. I know you've got your VIP services 1 to 1, but we have nothing to fix at home. How could we get your assistance to get the right laptop?

    • @morgonaut
      @morgonaut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you have to rebuild the array from the ground :) If you would run server with ZFS you could just add those 2 new drivers to existing setup, but macOS is not running ZFS :)

    Have the OCZ 4M.2 in 2010 Mac Pro 5.1. Software raid seems no faster then a single M.2 drive, maybe even a little slower. Does this card use Hardware Raid ?

    • @morgonaut
      @morgonaut  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HW RAID made sense in the past, software RAID is more flexible and can be even faster. This card has HW PCIe switch so it can run in any computer even without bifurcation.

      FWIW, I use the model with fan & which is also 'silent' (enough - need to push your ear onto the mac chassis to hear anything & the mac fans are louder than the Sonnet). I prefer this route exactly because of the cooling and thermals for my 4x samsung EVO 970s setup as RAID O for fast caching in Resolve Studio & FCPX. I also prefer the build & casing of the fan version.

      and you are not right with the plugins installations at all! You can offload anything = also your plugins etc. to any other (faster) disk/network storage anytime you want! It's all about correct workflow and knowledge!

    It's 2021, and I have just gotten my first RAID set ups, no where near these speeds you have, but I'm happy though, got them on eBay for super cheap. I just got an OWC Thunderbay 4 Mini with 2 x 1TB SATA SSD for my photography, and an OWC Thunderbay 4 with 4 x 1TB 3.5" HDD for my Time Machine backup. One day when SSDs drop more in price I will have a NVMe RAID setup, and definitely upgrade my HDD's to SSD's.
