Sad that the only reason it failed was because truck drivers didn't like how it looked especially the older drivers. Yes truck drivers actually did vote with the wallet quite literally, choosing the classic look over a more fuel efficient truck. Hell the more fuel efficient truck was cheaper. Boy that brings back memories - we had a fleet of LTA9000 Aeromax's back in the 90's and took delivery of our last units in 1996, unit 614301 was the last truck to be delivered. Basic trucks, all Cat 3406E cut back to 350hp and 9 speeds. They had their problems but overall decent trucks and better than the Pete's that we had, larger cabs and they didn't rattle so bad.
Jeff, can you do a video of you losing your brakes downhill and then having to take the runaway ramp? I'd love to hear how you react before and after hitting the gravel.
Man those trucks are legendary LTA9000, they had a style called a Hardrunner, check it out looks like the one you ran without the graphics on the side, great vid dude love seeing these oldies!

1500 is too low even for real world situations. When empty, you can get away with it but 90% of trucks when loaded need to be brought up to anywhere from 1800 - 2000 rpm before shifting. Also I almost bought an aeromax a year ago. Always loved the old ford commercial trucks. It was a tie between that and a regular LT9000.
I miss seeing these things. Occasionally you still catch one here in Michigan in dump truck or cab-chassis form of some kind. Awesome Ford design of the era.
Looks like the tach might be off in this rig. The engine you're using is a 3406E. It makes a very distinct sound when it goes above 1500 rpm. You were nearly at 2 and it sounded like it was well below 1500. That was screwing with your shifts too.
Baskin Robbins used to run a bunch of those back in the 1990’s-2000’s. I miss seeing them ole Ford Aeromax 120’s! This one sounds and look crazy good in this video!!

I'm on automatic transmission because I've only got an XBOX 360 controller and changing gears in the game is too much coordination for me but the thing shifts up at around 2300 RPM at least; you could push to 2500 RPM to get a few more MPH out of the gear I guess.
These Aeromax are weird trucks, I hauled some cattle with one and it was just odd lol. Especially seeing that Ford logo Sometimes you just have to rev er! I'm in Cali right now, I hate Cali roads. Beautiful state, terrible roads. I rarely split in the basement in real life unless I'm really heavy or on a giant hill, or if I have to go slow. Sometimes it's nice when going slower to just throw an extra gear at it. But usually, I just split the top

What made me like this truck, believe it or not, was that one episode of The Simpsons where Homer has to drive for a guy that died during a steak eating contest with him. That guy drove the Aeromax lol (or at least a cartoon rendition of one)

They are called Jake brakes because Jacobs Manufacturing has been making them since the sixties, though Clessie Lyle Cummins invented them in 1951 or 57 I forget at the moment. Jake brake is the same as Kleenex, everyone knows what they are. That and "engine compression retarder" takes too long to say.

I have drove a Western Star first. I rode around with my uncle who does hauling around the country. When time I drove with them from Michigan to Wisconsin. Then give me some money. Drop me off at the train station. Wisconsin then take the train to my grandparents house and then from there back to my house. After Wisconsin you have to go to Washington State. So that was a good idea. I had to take train Wisconsin to Chicago. In Chicago to Niles Michigan. My grandparents live in Niles.
I love this truck I like those and the sterlings and I agree with you California sucks and they do like that 55mph I got pulled over in a tractor trailer doing 62 in a 55 he let me go on the speed and gave me a ticket for impeding traffic the only reason he ticketed me was because he was behind me and I was slowing him down
Seeing you shift in the sim makes me miss shifting in my western star 18 speed in real life. Sadly working 16 hours a day 5 days a week away from home wasn't a good fit for me, I was falling asleep at the wheel. I loved the job so much but I had to stop for safety reasons.
As a fellow trucker irl, this just blows my mind... There is no reason you should have been working that long so that you'd fall asleep at the wheel. And whoever taught you is an idiot for not telling you that you can literally end your day whenever you want, or even just take a 30 minute nap if need be. You're the captain of that truck. Your dispatcher and your company cannot force you to work in conditions that you feel are unsafe, for any reason. If it was your company that was making you work that long and not take breaks then you should go to a different company. There is no reason you should have been working that long while also still driving. If it was also the whole staying out for long periods of time... I can totally understand that. Its tough being out on the road away from family for that long, so I cant blame you for that. But also remember, if you love driving that much, you can always look into getting some local stuff! Theres plenty of companies that run day cabs where you're home every night at a reasonable time, and off on weekends! Just gotta find one that fits. :)
Congratz on the house - and nationally loans are backed up and are talking 60 days plus to process - make sure those termites are completely taken care of though Jeff - those arent just a little thing = they literally will eat the entire house core support for starters and nothing is cheap to repair at that point.
I used the trailer mod and im pretty sure to be able to open the rear doors you have to uncupple the trailer and they open (Sorry for the misspelling of uncupple if it is misspelt)
Jeff, In order to open the trailers doors u have to unhook the trailer. When u hook it back with the truck the doors will close. Thought that this would help you, thanks!!!

In real life 1500-1600 is perfect shift point unless you’re going up a steep hill loaded then you’d want to be more like 1700-1800. On a 13 speed you loose 500 rpms between shifts in the low end and 250 when spliting gears on the high end. 2000+ is generally the redline for semis most only go up to 2500 or 3000. Source I drove a cat engine for 4 years.
Im finally getting a shifter for my wheel, goodbye paddle shifters lol. Im going to have Logitech shifter. Any tips on shifting since I won't have a knob with a splitter and range button?
I've bought my setup kinda piece by piece as I could afford it. When I had just the th8a shifter without the simu shift knob, I just set two buttons on my steering wheel to be the splitter and range selector. Not the most realistic and took some getting used to but it works. Best of luck!

Drove a Ford semi truck on the farm looked similar to this one but it was a L-9000 day cab single axle former Beer truck .
