Just a note: LED light work in LUMINS not Watts to determine brightness. Wattage in LED is only determining how much power it is using But I love all your Vidoes
Setup the same Germination Grow a few weeks ago. Lights are awesome. The one thing I did different was Special Ordered the End Pieces (so I do not need to drill) The lights just rest on those, and the Shelf sits just above it on all four supports. I also reused the reflective foil (Insulated Esky Bag) from my Musclechef Subscription to line the shelf to protect from Water. Thanks for this Video Hoocho. I had everything in the garage I needed to build.
i been using a very similar set up to over winter my tropical bonsai and veg my canna clone for years now.i have the all metal shelf type. the shop light shelf sits in my window(my grow is legal jsyk)lol with 2 clf light bulb temps 2500kand 6500k 4 bulbs per shelf . plus a few of the twisty type and a few small led strips i wired up and hung on the side bars. thing totally rocks. even start my seedling there in spring. thanks Hoocho. happy hydroponicing everyone!
The best part of your videos is when something you didn't expect to happen comes along and you have an aahhhhaaa moment. lol Thank for sharing this great system with us!
Sweet video, great info. Can’t wait to see the nft phase. I’m in Oregon USA and we are in fall heading towards winter so almost everything is done inside under lights. Thanks for your awesome content
you know those blue wall plugs that you screw into walls with? they would be perfect to protect the screws/lights and insulate from any bad electrical issues.
It's worth noting that higher wattage isn't specifically higher PAR. Manufactured fixtures from the same company, likely true, however there are 20w prop lights here in NZ that are better than their 25w competitors. Everything from the diode vendor, the color spectrum and even the efficacy of the diode itself plays into that. However yeah, comparing lights from Bunnings, going for a 20w will likely give more PAR than a 15w 😁
Dude I have the same shelving for my homebrew area, I think it might even be the same size one. It holds 2 bar fridges, one for fermenting and one for kegs and my fermenter and boiler and other bits on top. I think I need to contact cover the shelves like you've done, such a good idea!
Really keen to see the long term on these lights. Any chance you could pop out a diffuser on one and see (if it’s possible) if it gives better light output
Id think you and I would know if we were communicating. Somehow you turned me onto some topic over the past few months like the way you use NFTs. But i was genuinely struggling with shelving space and have been playing around with Kratky and DWC. I think it's just since we are both working on it, hands on, we are seeing places to expand into. It's just wild that we are going similar directions to put our skills into sometimes. Either way, i appreciate the videos you put out, they are nearly always helpful to me in some way❤️
100% n00b question - do the grow tents (need to) have a reflective material on the inside to amplify the light to maximise the growth (something something)?
Great set up, no need for heat mats as the heat from the lights will provide this when turned on, and as most people run the lighting during the coldest part of the day (nighttime) this shouldn't affect them to much, thou what about the excess water running off the shelves on to the top of the lights, maybe different propagation trays or placing them in a tray. Did you try one of those lights with the diffuser removed? Cheers Craig 🥃⛏️
Couldn't help immediately thinking that these style of shelving units also come in 60cm deep varieties, which would be a perfect fit in a 4x2 tent, and would fit 2 of the panel lights per shelf. Not sure what that would allow you to grow. Or maybe the cost increase would mean you'd be better off buying a regular grow light instead.
Would you mind sharing the name of the light meter you are using to calculate the light output at different places ? would greatly appreciate, your content is awesome btw, my kratky , dwc and nft systems are all inspired from your videos
I'll be very interested to see how these lights perform right through the grow cycle. Particularly interested in knowing how high you can place them and still get the benefit. I have a row of old bird aviaries with iron roof but open on the east side that I intend converting to green house...I wonder if these lights will save me from having to replace the roof with clear plastic
Wonderful video. It's so fun to see your enthusiasm about how well the shelves and lights went together. I do have a question: Do you use anything to prevent the feet of the shelving unit from damaging the floor of the tent. If so, what do you use?
This is more of my thing as there isn't any store that sells hydroponic specific items in my country and even if there is, all are made in china which i don't trust so very thankful for this
I built this setup with the same shelving unit. I have two 13 watt lights per shelf. It works fine for starting plants and microgreens but yeah, you won't be able to grow much past their starter phase. I hate that shelving unit, the wire shelving units are way better in all regards.
I believe 460d 1400w 2000h I searched for it online but I don’t think it’s available anymore. Look for shelving that works with the lights, and get a tent slightly bigger than those dimensions.

Why do you move your arms and hands backwards and forwards with every word you say, very annoying and irritating, I had to switch off within seconds and find another video with someone who could keep still
For the adventuresome architects out there I have been researching ideas to build my own reflective micro greenhouse enclosures (what Hoocho calls "the grow tech tent" in this video) or the outer tent that is insulative, waterproof and reflective to keep warmth, moisture and light where the plants are. I am still in process of designer researching so this isn't a full "concept outline" but I'll share the plans and parts list I've decided on so far and if anyone wants to go full "hardware store" for the entire ideas/ project Hoocho's encouraging here :) may this offer all some inspiration or insights. ~My local hardware store sells bamboo (for fencing) and it is a national hardware store (Home Hardware in Canada) so this tells me that bamboo is an international crop and if it can reach a mainstream outlet enterprise it may be more widely available that you might guess. So possitive investigating (salutes hat) I've been watching bamboo handling videos for months and from what I've seen it's super straight forward to work with and people build yurts, shelves, tents, etc- advantage is that the stuff is light and handles well in wet conditions and is craftable. My plan is to build the frame for the outer reflective "tech tent' part of the setup. Cladding: - Aluminized Mylar (also available at some hardware stores) though harder to get in large sheets but by adding verticle bamboo to the "support frame" each panel of mylar (depending on witth) can be attached to the bamboo frame minimizing on the gap by sandwiching two bamboo crescents front and back to the mylar and then securing the crescent piece to the main frame. The Bamboo + mylar concept could also be applied to a "door" for the grow shelter" I'm still in the process of devising a thicker thermal barrier for this setup but am open to adding more concept materials to my designers "database" :) Hope that gives someone some ideas! Feel free to reply with new suggestions, questions or brainstorms
should have just made the tent from the hardware store aswell. very easy to use foam insulation to build a grow space, and grow tents are a total ripoff. you wont get very good ventilation with all those shelves anyways, if you just framed the shelves in foam you could easily put 3 or 4 in. ducts on 1 side and then exhaust the top (where the heat rises to). after building so many grow spaces (and drying boxes) ive developed a seething hatred for how expensive tents are. i can build a 4x4 in less than an hour (foam insulation sheets are 4x8 anyways so minimal cutting with a razor) for like 50$ american.
Thanks for pointing that out I wholeheartedly agree that grow tents are a total ripoff and quite honestly I’ve never understood the rationale for them anyway. Personally I have two shelving units in my living room and on one I have a winding NFT system that flows from the top to the bottom and I’m able to have two pipes on three shelves and that gives me 54 holes to insert plants(I grow leafy greens in it exclusively) my other shelving unit and the shelves above the NFT I also have T5 Monios full spectrum warm white grow lights and they totally work well for all my growing needs. I have been able to grow pretty much every kind of veggies indoors that a person could want. It’s been a wild ride learning all of these things and I still don’t understand the need for the tent. Yes my grow lights are on for 18hrs a day but I find they give me a nice little pickup through the long Canadian winters and it’s always mind blowing how I can have a snowdrift on my window and beautiful lush green edible plants growing on the other side of the window. I’m going to try the vinyl to cover my shelves I think this is a very inspired idea because my shelves have these annoying holes that little bits of dried leaves etc fall into and it’s a royal pain to keep them clean and debris free! So this vinyl shelving stuff just might be the answer!! 🥰❤️🇨🇦🌈
@@leannekenyoung i just built a wooden herb garden for the window sill the other day using 4 2 foot t8 fixtures and for the shelf on that i just used hardware cloth stapled to (after wrapping the sides) the wood. this way the excess water (and light) can go through to the bottom shelf where the drain tray is. i enjoy the problem solving aspect of building grow spaces from scratch.
So grateful for the adherence to legal electrical work.
Literally doing this same build today from bunnings for my upcoming seedling business, great stuff Hoocho
dont write him, thats scam he wants you to pay with gift cards for delivery
Can confirm that person is a scammer. I fell for it this morning.
Followed your instructions and now have a decent budget Germination Station. Many thanks.
That shelf liner pull was so satisfying.
cant believe how well all those parts went together!

Hi, what are the Special End Pieces that you ordered?
Great video Hucho! Hope you’re doing well !
The lighting install is totally awesome
Love how it turned out
Great video also doing tje same setup but painting mdf as I had white paint on hand also trying with fish tank plans

Very cool.
Choice do cheap, padded, foil windscreen shields and might be water proof. Might make good shelf cover that has refractive properties
Aww come on mate… Hoochos Craft channel, it would be great. Cheers

Nice!!!!!! Great Work Mr. Hoocho.
You're a unit dude, I do the same thing with sausage containers.
Pop the diffuser lense out of the panel lights and you will have better results. Currently using 100w high bay.
Big dog comes through with two videos! What a bargain
Looks like I have a trip to Bunnings in my near future

Definitely gonna make more than one

Massive help!! Thanks for that!!
awesome bro, just awesome 👏
If one were to be happy to buy lights from other places, what light would you most recommend for propagation, and perhaps salad greens?
Great set up, no need for heat mats as the heat from the lights will provide this when turned on, and as most people run the lighting during the coldest part of the day (nighttime) this shouldn't affect them to much, thou what about the excess water running off the shelves on to the top of the lights, maybe different propagation trays or placing them in a tray.

Can you describe your Hydro Fluid? Brand used and procedure for making comple fluid.

can you please share a link and wattage used for the light in the shelf. great build!
1:34 for non-Australian viewers: in AU, by law all electric works must be performed by a licensed electrician.
domestic 240v work is by law. low volt DC is fine for the DIY.
Now as a newbie, I will say this is a great video. Need more of this style. Thank you. Also I do have a question or two, how to contact you? David
Wonderful video. It's so fun to see your enthusiasm about how well the shelves and lights went together. I do have a question: Do you use anything to prevent the feet of the shelving unit from damaging the floor of the tent. If so, what do you use?
I use those furniture mover disks
That's what's poppin 🍾🥂🍿
Not sure what's happened but if I look up the 36W panel I find it under I/N 0368313
great vid mate but what are the dimensions of the grow tent?
This is more of my thing as there isn't any store that sells hydroponic specific items in my country and even if there is, all are made in china which i don't trust so very thankful for this
Everything's made in China anyways buddy

Does it have to be 4000k? I've read people suggesting 5000-6000k being ideal? What's the difference between 4000k - 6000k?
Isnt there a fire risk from light touching mdf?
How many hours per day do you provide light?
Those lights are just regular office lights? Not grow lights ? Just to be clear...
Do you leave the lights on 24/7?
Hi iam from fiji.
Which nutrients do you use for lettuce.
What measurement was that? 300 PAR? Are you measuring Lumens, or?
This is the shit! Greets from the north side of brissy!
hot much temp do the lights run at
Bl**dy ingenious 😂
What is the grow tent that you used, dimensions etc. I know it is from spiderfarmer
I believe 460d 1400w 2000h
I searched for it online but I don’t think it’s available anymore.
Look for shelving that works with the lights, and get a tent slightly bigger than those dimensions.
shroom box build 100%
Where's the airflow
Hoocho. Did I win or did I get scammed
