      As you see watching these videos, my preferred quilting is edge to edge, or the same design over the entire quilt. I do workshops from time to time, giving some tips and a ton of examples for helping work through those choices.

    Hi Susan! I am late to the party and just found your videos! This is the first one I’ve watched and I was so thrilled to see you stitch out this pattern that I have loved since the first time I saw it several years ago. I thought it looked simple enough, but didn’t know how to figure out the measurements. Like you, I am not into Pantos and love FMQ from the front of the machine. I can’t wait to try this on a quilt! I’m looking forward to catching up on your other videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to share all this information. I don’t know when you started this, but I sure wish I’d had them for reference in 2016 when I bought my first longarm. I don’t quilt professionally, so it takes me longer to advance my skills doing only my own quilts and some charity quilting. Your videos are awesome and I am so inspired with your approach, to get some quilting done!! Thanks again!

      I machine quilt using a domestic Bernina. I recently changed from stay stitching bias edge to ironing a strip of the fusible tape (can’t remember the name) that is sold to join pieces of batting.

  • @sandybailey6199
    @sandybailey6199 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you, Susan, for sharing your “real time” quilting. I’m loving everything you do.
    I’m starting a quilt for a friend and decided to try Crazy 8s (after watching your video multiple times!). I marked the batting at 2” and did fine for 2 rows. There is not much contrast between thread and fabric and kinda got lost midway through row 3. My solution? Tiny strips of painters tape on the bar above my quilt every 2”. Gives me something to aim for! Yeah!

    Hi Susan, for piecing a back have you heard of the John Flynn diagonal method? I ran across it years and years ago when I was first starting out. It allows you to piece a back with less overall material, and with the backing seam running diagonally, you don't have the vertical seam issue that sometimes creates a problem. I put the formula into a spreadsheet, and use it quickly to figure out what will work. Love your pattern, and quilting choice.

    I’ve been looking for a rectangular ruler with the edge that allows it to handle more easily and can’t find it. It’s the one that you sometimes leave on your quilt in your live sessions I watch. Could you please provide the manufacturer’s name, so I might purchase it?

    Trying to understand how the red snapper attaches to the rail. Is there a groove in the rail itself that the snapper snaps into?

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First off, my machine came with canvas leaders attached to the rails. Many machines have those. Then, with the Red Snapper system you receive a thin rod that slides into the hem of that canvas. And finally you’re able to snap on the bits you see me using in the videos. Hope that helps!

    do you have any tips on tension. do you ever take a quilt off the frame and find intermittent "eye lashes" on the back? can this happen if you don't stitch with a consistent speed? I'm struggling with tension and I've had my longarm since November 21. I think I'm getting petty good with free motion just sick of working about tension. Maybe I'm too critical of my work? sigh......
    I'm using an Innova longarm 22"

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Poor tension can happen no matter whether constant speed or regulated. And it’s a much bigger discussion than I can cover here, but I suggest searching out some longarming groups on Facebook, and asking people who have your same brand. There is a LOT of experience out there. I’m thinking of doing an episode on just tension, as I know how absolutely frustrating that can be❤️

    Where did you purchase your long side clamps? Been looking for them online.

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are the same Red Snapper brand as my loading clips, so usually the same suppliers carry them. The brand isn’t as important as the LENGTH of them, in my opinion.

  • @marianadams6268
    @marianadams6268 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you ever find out your tension is off on the back of your quilt after you get started. I wish there was an easier way to check this before I get too far into the quilt.

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easier than…..? If it’s in question, I either use a mirror or climb below😁 Over time, I’ve gotten more attuned to my machine, and can often detect stitch problems early, but that just comes with time and experience.

    I was watching (again) and after thread beak #2, when you re-threaded the machine, it looks like you wrapped the thread around the tension knob two times. If so, is that because Isacord is slippery? Wasn't sure that is what you actually did.
