    I'm so happy to hear you're going to quilt a "pair" differently. I am planning on doing that with a pair I'm currently working on. One will be done with your "Crazy Eights", and the other will be my first done with rulers. Thanks for your Lives!

    Just stumbled onto your channel, and you made me realize I CAN DO THIS! I have a long arm gathering dust because I got frustrated with no classes, on how to use it during Covid. I’ve actually been trying to sell it. Now, I’m going to dust it off, and try again. Thank you so much! Can’t wait to see your other videos. Also, I hope to see you in Puyallup next month.

    I just stumbled onto this site while looking for a computer issue solution, but I've got a hoop frame and Q'nique machine that I've never used. I'm sure this is exactly what I need to learn how to use my equipment. 2-1/2 hours! Yay! This will really be step-by-step and slow enough to understand. I've already learned to spritz my backing in the first 11 minutes. Liked it and subscribed, and will come back and watch it. Thank you!

    Susan could you detail what direction the backing rollers need to be loaded with the fabric? Like right side of backing to either top /bottom side of leader fabric? My machine doesnt have a dead bar.

    • @StitchedBySusan

      I don’t think it really matters. I used to pin so that the backing folded back over itself; now with my snappers it doesn’t. So that’s not right or wrong, but if it DOES fold over itself you need to be quite accurate in width of fold. I’ve seen quilters do it all kinds of ways….

    How much extra backing fabric do you have on the bottom of that quilt in order to roll on the lower bar? I normally have 4 inches all the way around but it appears that you would have to have much more on the bottom of your quilt.

    • @StitchedBySusan

      No, I don't think you need more. You'd attach the backing to the canvas leader.

    I notice the extra amount of batting on the sides appears to be about an inch or two. No issues with it getting eaten up with the quilting as you work down the quilt?

    • @StitchedBySusan

      Not at all. I smooth it out thoroughly with each advance so there's no change as I work down the quilt.

  • @karenweber7125

    I baste both edges but find when I have finished my quilting I have puckers at the edge of my quilt. I end up taking out nearly all of my basting stitches to get my quilt flat

    • @StitchedBySusan

      Do you put the side clamps on AFTER basting? So that all layers have equal tension? Doing it before can cause the backing to be stretched tighter.

    how important do you think automation is as a quilter ? I am not a professional ( yet ) but I have been told that automation is a MUST for any one considering taking on customers ... I would think it would depend on the business plan?

    • @michellelynch6715

      Automation is absolutely not necessary for professional quilting. I personally have been quilting for others over 10 years and do not have robotics on my machine.

    • @StitchedBySusan

      It is absolutely not a must! I quilted over 1000 quilts before automation arrived in my studio. But, it is important to be realistic. There's a limit to how much freemotion quilting you can physically do, day after day, and therefore a ceiling on how much you can earn that way. It does indeed depend on the business plan. Does it need replace a full time job? Or could you perhaps consider complimentary things, like binding...or submitting patterns or articles to magazines...or teaching?

I just recently bought a Gracie q'nique 19x long arm and have the cutie frame. Don't have enough space for a longer frame. Have already quilted a king size quilt on it. A little overwhelming, but I sure got to know how this machine worked,lol.
