  • This week I’m flipping furniture as part of the #furnitureflipchallenge. I purchased this buffet / hatch from Facebook marketplace for $80 and have flipped it into two separate pieces
    Using the Wagner 590 sprayer I sprayed a new coat of paint on the pieces. The colours are by Dulux and are Prestige Blue, Duck Egg Blue and Natural White. The hatch underwent a big transformation with a new Oak top added and a new Oak Base. Both these pieces are versatile and can be used in living room or dining room decor. The Duck Egg Blue cabinet is now a modern sideboard ready for its new home and the Prestige Blue cabinet is the perfect display / booze cabinet to feature in anyone's home.

    Watched this with wifey and she really likes them! Navy and Brass is what we are going for in the bedroom design. I am very looking forward to the Wagner video. If you've not filmed it yet, look into nozzles. The ones that come with the 590 are not ideal for smaller pieces. You can get a separate finer one Vic from downunder uses better suited to furniture spraying. This has given me the confidence to have a crack at my 2 pieces we saved from the gutter... now I just need time :)

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks James. Yes the navy and brass is a great combo. Yes I have spoken to Vic and was looking at the sprayer attachment. I have only looked briefly but it looks the same as the smaller one in the 590 kit. Do you know what the difference is? Going to work on the video this week before I forget everything I learnt 😂😀 it was lots of fun to see them transform.

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmallFryCreations hmmm just had a google and yep, it is the same! 1.8mm fine nozzle. So it comes down to air vs paint balance. Good luck! I will be very interested in the results as my unit is identical to yours ;)

      @@FixitFingers It’s hard to tell from the photos of the 590 but the brilliant attachment has blue nozzles with golf ball dimples in it. Apparently that’s the magic that makes it much better

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have done more reading and it appears they have changed the nozzle colour to blue but it’s the same sprayer. The small one James and I have also has the golf ball dimples so I think they have just changed the colour. Makes it so confusing

    Hey Ainslee.......another corker and I love your down to earth, warts 'n all delivery! Honestly, unless you're going to invest in a graco or or some form of hvlp, I'd stick with a quality roller. I can't justify the outlay so I use fussy blokes 4" sleeves.......I've had people ask me if I sprayed the finish.......and I'm just an enthusiastic DIYer who has a fetish for quality tools!! I do keep looking at spraying but I just can't make that leap. Anyhow, you keep 'em coming.......you're so good at this!!

    Hello Ainslee. The more of your films I watch the more convinced I am that you are a genius! This was wonderful to watch and learn from!
    I am ancient of days, I would look at the two pieces you finished with and wanted to make what you started with :-) However as usual I learned a lot while watching this film - not being able to get what you want because of lockdown is frustrating, and by the way if you are anywhere near Melbourne I hope you were not affected by the earthquake. Still waiting to hear from my relatives.
    I told you I had found toggle clamps on Amazon;- they arrived yesterday. Two will sit on a millboard slicer I made and I am thinking of the jigs I can make with the other 4. One will be a second hand when my other hand is useless through arthritis!
    Hope your lockdown ends soon! :-)

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Eryk. Was lots of fun to update a piece and also see up close how the commercial furniture was put together. We are almost at the end of lockdown and should be getting back to normal mid October. I’m in Sydney so wasn’t affected by the earth quake. Chris I believe felt it but is ok and Dirk is in the country so I believe ok.
      Yay for the toggle clamps. So glad they arrived and they are handy for you. Lots of uses!

    Nice work. It seems quick and easy to 'flip' furniture, but it's actually a bunch of work! With the doors, I'd recommend painting the fronts and back the same colour as it saves the need for masking things off. It doesn't matter what the colour of the back of a door is, so the easy option is the best option.

      if you end up cutting angles on shorter pieces like that again, I'd suggest screwing a small block behind them, so that they can't slip backwards as you push them through. The gripper worked great and def should still be used, but the little bit of extra security from a temporary stop block would make it a safer cut. 👍

    Fantastic furniture flip, Ainslee. Love the colour combo 👍😁. Its a lot of work, but worth it. Just a heads up on the dust sheet for spraying, I normally use a couple of 4m tarps. Its cheap and covers a good length, and has some rigidity to the texture. And hook it up on eyelets on to the ceiling using either screws or hook 👍

    How do you choose the furniture you're going to refurbish? Do you always visit before committing? What do you look for in a set of drawers or a coffee table or a bookshelf for example?

    • @SmallFryCreations

      Hey Great question. I generally scroll Facebook Marketplace and look for something and sparks an idea of what I could turn it into. I will then look at the pictures and get a sense of the quality. I'm just looking for not huge damage that is going to take to long to repair. With the doors with the glass I perfer doors where the glass can be removed. This makes painting make better and creates a better finish. Not always the easier to find but that is one question I will ask. Hope that helps.
