He also did „I see fire“ - and it is even better 😉

All three of the low note drops were the same note... just done using three different techniques. The first one was a subharmonic, the second one was chest with a touch of glottal compression, and the ending note was pure chest, opened up and allowed to have a lot of air to it.

My introduction to Geoff was Sixteen Tons. From there I found Voiceplay and I've been hooked ever since.

This is an ALMOST perfect song for him... It's been my introduction to Geoff's solo work, and it's been the one I'd always return. But then he did "I see fire", from "The Hobbit - The desolation of Smaug", and it was so freaking good it just went up there... Above this, even. And then, just recently, he did "Unshaken", and it just joined the group, so now there are three songs up there. 🙂
Right below, in my special score card, there are a few other, but the truth is that each one of these actually is "his best song", in different genres, touching me to tears for different reasons. His versions of "Shenandoah", "Till then", "Ain't no sunshine", "Big bad John", "Sound of silence", "White Christmas", "Man of constant sorrow" and pretty much every song he's done, are so freaking good.
    See you next time! 🙂

Yep. With Voiceplay and Geoff, it's hard to have a top ten, really. I mean, my #1 by Voiceplay is Valhalla Calling, #2 is Hoist The Colors, which used to be number one, but as I sleep to it, I've heard it over 45,000 times. But beyond that, it's hard to place Geoff Songs or VP songs in an order. And it's impossible to have just a "top ten." "Top fifty," maybe. There's just so much goodness!💙

You will find all his 'solo' versions are this good. Jack's Lament is also fantastic, as is 'Blackbird', 'Sound of Silence'. basically anything he does.

Watching you watch is so entertaining. Your enjoyment is so obvious and a bit contagious. All of Geoff’s videos are addictive. I must watch over and over! I know his sequel to this has been suggested. “ I See Fire” and I agree that it is probably one of his very best. Even better than this one (and that is hard to believe).
However, I’m also going to suggest one of his older videos. Try his cover of “16 Tons”, an old classic originally made famous by Tennessee Ernie Ford in the ‘50s. Another one for which Geoff’s voice is perfectly matched. And it is entirely in chest voice. I love his subharmonics too, but his natural voice can be very impressive, as well.

Okay, I've seen this a hundred times, but only just now noticed Geoff's little smile while he cocks his eyebrow, right before he drops into "lay." He's such a mischievous imp! "Are you ready? Nah, I know you're not, but you're going to love this!" I believe it's the most played part, because I rewound THIS video several times to watch it over and over. 💙

Geoff's arrangements and harmonies blow me away. He is so talented. The musical backings are done on his keyboard with plugins, when he's not playing the piano. It's lovely to see new reactors to Geoff - and VoicePlay of course. They deserve so much more attention and publicity than they get. INcidentally Geoff can beatbox to some degree but doesn't on his videos. He can be seen doing that on VP's Death of a Bachelor, and Love Yourself when Layne wasn't there. The drum beat in this always makes me think of trudging slowly over the mountains. And Geoff's subharmonic tones remind me of the stags in rutting season , when the deepest voice gets his pick of the hinds. :) It's no wonder than women swoon over Geoff.

In Voiceplay songs I often find myself forgetting that there aren't instruments because they are so masterful at filling out the sound. With Geoff I find myself forgetting there are instruments because his use of layering maintains an acapella effect and his voice is so captivating the instruments fade away

Love your reaction. Geoff is just amazing with what he can do with a song. I recommend: "I See Fire", "Jack's Lament", "Ain't No Sunshine", "16 Tons", "Unshaken", "Wicked Game" and his latest is "Don't Mess Around with Jim" which was originally sung by Jim Croce and released in 1972.

I See Fire and Jack's Lament are wonderful. I love the goofiness he brings out in his cover of Way Down (Elvis). Blue Christmas is hilarious. Ghostriders and Unshaken have the same cowboy Geoff clones.

I see fire is really good too but for something completely different by Geoff try Shenandoah. His voice is so sweet in that one.😊

The Peter Hollens / Tim Foust version came out earlier than this one. At the time, I thought it was going to be difficult to top that one, even for Geoff. Then of course, Geoff proved me oh so wrong! He just blew my mind! 🤯
Geoff plays piano on some of his videos, also harmonica, and uses plug-ins for most, saving the acapella for VoicePlay. So the drums you hear are not voice, but plug-ins.
His voice has these special qualities I haven't found on anybody else. His range is amazing, and he can sing beautifully at every level. His voice is like a warm and cozy blanket that makes you feel so good! I heard rumors that he swallowed a dragon, but that would be very scary, so I doubt it 🤣
All his solo work is awesome, can't go wrong, no matter which one you pick. Please, keep them coming! 🔥
