In this programme we get an insight into the preparation involved in getting a horse ready for race day and the routine that every horse goes through before heading off to the races. The Trainer has a set daily routine, designed to get horses fit and into peak condition. This changes however, when a horse is selected for race day.
Many visits from professionals take place in the run- up to race days, including: a Vet, Equine Therapist and the Farrier, who changes the horse's work shoes and fits him with 'racing plates'.
Each week trainers decide which horses will race and there are key factors to be considered when making this decision. They are: the fitness of the horse, the distance of the race, the racecourse, the ground and the type of the race.
Trainers enter horses five days before the race and can change their minds and withdraw up to 10AM on race day without a financial penalty, with the exception of Grade 1 races and major Handicaps.

-Most races have a prize for the Best Turned Out horse, which is a coveted title and rewards the stable staff for their hard work.
-Every racehorse has to have a passport, which carries vital registration information and details of its recent vaccinations and medications. If this isn't presented on arrival, the horse can be disqualified from the race.
-All racehorses have a tiny micro chip that corresponds with the information on their passports.
-In Flat racing all horses must go through a stalls test to ensure they can enter the stall without causing upset to themselves or others, if they don't pass this test then they won't be allowed to race.
-Horses 'work shoes' are changed for 'racing plates' for race day. Racing plates are much lighter and are usually made from aluminium.
- Horses hooves grow like nails and need to be filed on a regular basis.

There is alot of work by the yard getting a horse ready for race day from travelling to the race course, I remember when I was a stable lad I would get home from the races at midnight, then up at five a.m for stable duties the next morning , alot of dedication goes into the horse racing industry.

Enjoyed that! But in the UK especially, there is race after race day in and day out, where it takes a group of handlers to push and shove a horse into the stalls. Sometimes they fail. I've noticed that other countries don't seem to have this level of difficulty, so wonder why trainers are allowed to enter horses that won't enter the stalls easily. It is very unsightly and off-putting to punters.

Cheers for this, been searching for "ran out horse racing" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Peyarper Subjective Primacy - (search on google ) ? Horse racing is a rigged game with many cheating trainers who love non runners. There should be a rule to say the trainer that has a non runner, that is not announced at least 2 hours before the race faces a £400,000 fine.
The jockey that has a non runner should be rewarded with a £5000 cheque for having their time deliberately/maliciously wasted.
Then horse racing might be more watchable.
As for the horse, that is a non runner, it should be sold at auction.
