I’m 99% sure she was exclusively thinking of it as a cost. It is a big deal but it’s mostly upside. Same way dark hole destroying your own cards is a big deal but often in the direction of being positive.

@@SDREHXC i mean it is not a cost because no one plays it in a deck that doesn't gain from a discard to circumvent that, though i have never seen anyone play it period in recent memory

    • @hannessteffenhagen61
      @hannessteffenhagen61 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@SDREHXC Needing to discard for cost is _almost_ always a downside even in modern Yu-Gi-Oh!. There are some cards where it's an upside/neutral (like Opening Of The Spirit gates which lets you immediately summon a discarded 0/0 fiend or recycle a discarded continuous spell) but for generic removal like this it's almost purely a downside (even if you have ways to do stuff with cards in GY; if you're playing a deck that does a lot of that you're probably not lacking ways to get cards _into_ the GY either).
With Dark Hole the situation is a bit different. If you're playing it primarily to remove your opponents monsters it destroying your own monsters would be a downside, you'd rather play Raigeki in that case. Dark Hole is often played over Raigeki not because it destroying your own monsters is an upside, you're putting it into your deck because you _mainly_ want to use it to destroy your own monsters and it _also_ destroying your opponents monsters is the "bonus" effect. If we're playing a format where people don't summon floodgates on our side of the field and we actually _want_ a destruction board breaker you play Raigeki over Dark Hole (which some going 2nd decks over the last couple of years absolutely have done). There is _absolutely_ no scenario in which you're playing Lightning Vortex over Raigeki, which you would if discarding for this type of effect was ever regarded as an upside.
I think you may confuse this with cards like Forbidden Droplet, where the sending for cost can occasionally be an upside, but that's when you use it to send cards from field. If you send cards from hand it's nearly always a minus, neutral at best if you send something with a good GY effect.

Basically the viewers' opinion on what modern was that if it could be considered a playable card more so currently, whereas farfa was considering modern to be having topped a good number of times, post Mr5 or something like that. The things to learn from this are:
    1) Card advantage is huge in YGO. So discarding one for cost is very significant.
    2) The Normal Summon is also pretty important.
    3) Quick effect destruction / negates are very strong.
    4) Non-respondable disruption effects are powerful.
    5) Position switching is not strong, if it isn't either coupled with a negate or face-down (which is a pseudo negate).

Every single card in this video is good. Pank is just generally better than alpha in most scenarios. Even if you have more beasts you can and _want to_ return, that still doesn't make up for the fact it's an ignition effect which is too much downside vs pank, not to mention it can be used to out things like skill drain. You'd pretty much only use alpha over pank for things like small world, and even that's a bit hard to justify since they're both earths.

    • @hexencorner666

Sure, but outside their decks, Alpha can`t be used if you're not pairing it with beast/beast warriors and winged beasts, while Pankratops doesn't really need other Dinowrestler for anything. You just need that your opponent have more monsters than you and itself as a tribute for removal.

1.: Dark hole was pretty obvious because 1: card advantage is very important, and 2: being able to destroy our own monsters can in some cases be very important for them to function properly, so we can use their graveyard effects.
2.: Volcanic Queen is searchable, which is an advantage, but Gameciel can be put in any deck. In a Volcanic deck, Queen is better, in any other, Gameciel. I was technically thinking Gadarla would appear there to be fair, as Gadarla is the Kaiju I use the most. Being wind / insect fits some of my decks much better. Radian is another that I use a lot for being dark. Sometimes Kumongouse for bing an earth insect. I generally use Kaijus in the decks where I use Small World, as targets for Small World bridges. Than again, why would you put the Queen in deffense? Put it in attack. Attacking over 2500 is still pretty easy for most decks, and that way you can deal battle damage.
3.: Pankratops vs Alpha? So destroy vs bounce? But hey, Alpha is better for 2 reasons. 1.: many stuff has destruction protection. 2.: Alpha comes back. 3.: Alpha is a level 8, Pankratops is a level 7, and there are better rank 8 plays that there are rank 7-s. Than again, Big Eye is a thing, so rank 7-s can be pretty damn useful too. But for that, I guess Galaxy-Eyes Cypher Dragon isan option, it just makes you give up most of your battle phase. I'd pick Alpha for mostly the first 2 reasons, unless it's a dino deck. In dinos, I do believe that Pankratops is searchable, so in that specific condition, pankratops. Another reasonwhy I'd pick Alpha, is that I actually have 2 copies of it, while I have no Pankratops. 25th anniversary packs gave me both of those alphas. I still don't see ANY reason why we'd play either of them in a way that leaves them on the field though. They're perfectly fine materials for combo plays. On this one, I don't agree with you.
4.: Accesscode all the way. Less restrictive summoning condition, and is one of the go-to game enders I go for in most if not all the decks where I link climb. Provided I have to climb that high. In Traptrix, I usually stop at Atypus on link-3, as she's technically more useful for Traptrix endboards. But I do have Accesscode in most decks where I run any links. Not Speedroids, for those, I have only their own archetye specific link monster.
Overall, I'd say that her answers show very much that she's not used to games ending in 2-3 turns on average, and hence even if not intentionally, doesn't calculate with cards not needing deffense, or deffensive utilities like swapping opponent's monsters into deffense, if they're meant for taking out the opponent in the turn they're summoned.

Farfa is not gaslighting TECHNICALLY. Farfa is giving information that is not clear to the other person, but that does not stop the other person from debating everything that is available to be asked or even considered. It just shows people on the fence about something can be swayed more towards one side by good details of one side just because they do not realize the better ones of the other; This is not a gaslight but a simple side-effect of someone having to guess what is better but not being allowed to be more obvious about what specific details show the truth in the context of Yugioh as a whole.

I think this would be extremely effective for both Farfa and the guests as they can visualize how the cards would be used, all the while still doesn’t make it too obvious as they are not familiar with the game themselves. Nah I don't think so, unless your deck has like a big number of kaijus the multiple control thing is irrelevant, the main purpose is almost always problematic spot removal.
Plus, any time I suggest a card might be slightly weaker or stronger depending on what the guest initially believes, it's obviously gaslighting and I'm a terrible person for it. So I tried to stay way more hands off this episode rather than over explain before their guesses. 😅
