Thank you for showing the 45 & 43 side-by-side. Since I have a 45mm 96B251, I think I will wait for a price drop and buy the “Blue Panda) 98K112. The small reduction in lug-to-lug will help the watch fit more users. This is what the watch should have been from the start. I would even prefer it being slightly smaller.

I think because lunar pilot is more what this was....omega has the watch for the first actual person on the moon. But technically the first person to drive a lunar vehicle on the moon was this watch. So lunar pilot is more name worthy per say. I mean maybe they can call is blue lunar pilot. But I think just lunar pilot sounds better
Bought this watch a few weeks ago. It's such a gorgeous looking watch. The textured dial with the blue elements looks awesome. I really love the blue coloured pushers, such a nice touch. My only criticism is the sharp edge to the bracelet. It can feel a little 'scratchy' around the wrist if worn loose or if you reposition it.

Glad you liked the video. And I know 🤣 I noticed the Chrono hand was not aligned after I filmed. Luckily, it's easy to align the hands with this movement and happy to report hands are all aligned now 🙂.

I’m surprised the 43mm doesn’t look that much visually smaller than the 45mm in your comparison shot. Regardless, I’m sure this is going to be a hit this year. Great review!
Riiight!!! I was tripping out when I was holding both of them side by side. But! They do wear different. That lug to lug definitely makes a difference.
It appears the dial and crystal is the same size on both the 43mm and 45mm versions (both being larger than on the original)...and that would make sense because the the movement has fixed positions for the subdials and they still need to be positioned to retain proper proportions with respect to the rest of the dial. They simply slimmed the case flanks and shortened the lugs on the 43mm so they can say "the same case size as the original" but the result is that the proportions have been altered from the original. In my opinion, the 45mm actually copies the original case shape more accurately (the case flanks extend slightly beyond the bezel like on the original), albeit slightly larger than original.

Yeah, I think you would notice the difference. The lug-to-lug makes it wear much nicer.

Hi, loved your video! I see you have the new lunar pilot travel clock in the background; have you been able to get that running? Bulova's website says it runs off an LR44 battery, but that's the only info there. Does it seem like it runs accurately, or is it just a really cheap quartz movement in a cool frame? Is it metal & glass or plastic? Are the hands illuminated? Thanks again!
What's up brotha! Appreciate the kind words and appreciate you watching. The clock is cool, it came with a battery already so I'm not sure what battery it uses. The clock itself is in a metal case. The frame is plastic. I'm not sure what the accuracy is but it's a cool, fun, table clock for sure. I know some AD's are giving them as a gift with the purchase of a watch.
Thanks for your review and take on this new release. Sure makes it tempting for me to want one.. for once. Was never tempted by the previous version being it just looks a little large. You're right, you barely notice the difference in case size. I guessed the wrong one that was the smaller one. The lug to lug is so key.. you can go pretty large on the case size, but a usable lug to lug is what tames such a beast.
I would also get the blue panda version, if I were to get one.
Hope you enjoyed it! And you're spot on. The lug-to-lug measurement makes a huge difference. It's funny when I had both black variants in hand I also got confused on which was which. Had to look at the date window and finish briefly to recall which one was which. Also, I think the different case finishes play an illusion on the eyes. This should do well for Bulova and I do hope they make an even smaller variant down the road.

Fantastic watch. Personally I don't mind the 45 mm but I have a large wrist so it is brilliant that they came out with the proper size to the original. And this white and blue is fire. Also, my bulova doesn't have a date so you can get the other one without a date. I love the bracelet on this one it looks fantastic! Great video as always m8

Couple of things, they have had a no date version for quite some time in the larger version. Also, what indicates that this is a special edition? Could it be the way forward? Currently the larger version is on markdown on the Bulova site. Thoughts?
Appreciate you watching 👊😊. So it was brought to my attention their was a no date with the older 45 mm which I wasn't aware of, so that was cool to learn. At the time of release, because I did get this early I was told this one was a special edition. Seems to be a general release so I have a feeling it's easily available if you want it. Lastly, at the moment I don't see Bulova marking this one down, not for a while at least. And I think the all black version will be the one to be discounted first before this blue panda version. But only time will tell 👊😊

Just bought this one, even though it doesn’t look that different from the 45 mm, on the wrist is way smaller, that’s what kept me from buying it for several years, I wanted the black PVD one, but it looked and felt too big on my 7 inch wrist.

You CAN tell. The case has been shaved. It’s fantastic and I own both.
But there are problems. One, you can’t see the sub-dial hands in most light because they are bare metal. Second, the 60 minute chrono scale is useless. You can’t tell whether you’re looking at, say, 11 or 12 minutes.
Also a date is needed on most days for most people.

Hey Frank, appreciate you watching 😊👊. So the 45mm according to Bulova comes in at 52mm. From my experience it's actually a bit bigger than that. This new one is being promoted at 49mm but it's more like 50mm when I measured it on my calipers. So for my 7 inch wrist it's about the max I like to go so I don't have crazy overhang.
I've bought this watch and it looks fine on a 7ins wrist, it looks smaller as well with the blue strap. 💙

A brand I love, if they concentrated on these sort of releases alot more as opposed to their gargantuan fashion watches, I do believe this brand would be a powerhouse. But for now I'll enjoy their limited releases like this.

Lol 😂😂 I know my apologies I realized after I had shot the video the hand was off. But I re-aligned it. It's actually really simple with these movements. As for the size, you can definitely feel it and see it on wrist for sure. Appreciate you watching and suffering through the misalignment of hand 👊😁
I was trying not to be excited for this but I couldn't resist. Sadly it still seems like it won't suit wrists much smaller than yours. Maybe there will be a 40mm version one day!
Honestly I felt the same way until I saw it in hand. It truly wears very nice. I have a buddy who has a 6.5 inch wrist and even he could pull it off. Anything smaller than 6.5 inches would be a personal preference if you like bigger watches. But, I'm with you. I truly hope soon they make a 39-40 mm variant.

$900 is kinda steep, but it's great to see Bulova still making progress with classic models. I might pick one up just to support the company...
And you can't fit the 262k movement in a 39mm case. The movement itself is 40.5mm wide. This is as physically small as they can make it without using a different movement and losing the moon watch history.

@Pierre Cardinal every timed instrument in the actual shuttle and capsule used Bulova's 262k movement.
They don't know what movement was in the original watch, so they fit the remake with the movement that was used in the shuttle.
Yes, the 262k went to the moon.
Actually, the Bulova Lunar Pilot caliber 8136 (262hz) high performance quartz mov was not used by NASA. That movement was only introduced in 2014. It was a predecessor to that quartz technology that had that honor. It's the Accutron tuning fork 360hz mov that was used. Starting with the Accutron Tuning Fork 214 mov. In the all the clocks and timekeeping instruments of the 46 space missions from the mid-1950s to the 1970s. A much more important contributions than a wristwatch, IMHO. For Dave Scott's Lunar Pilot. It has been discovered that he had one of the 16 prototypes produced by Bulova for NASA. Which used a 17 jewel mechanical mov. As stated in the receipts for the project Bulova did for NASA. Which you see in Kesaharu Imai's excellent book "A Time Capsule Omega Speedmaster". Most likely a Swiss Universal Genève Space-Compax chronograph mov. Bulova acquired Universal Genève in 1967 because they did not produce any chronograph movements at the time. So they used one from their new subsidiary company. This is not to put down the Bulova Lunar Pilot. I'm actually a big fan of it! 🙂❤️

This should do well for Bulova. I already own the 45mm version with the blasted case (no polish) and love it. It is my only quartz watch out of 30+ but one of my favorites. I may pick up this blue one eventually, but just got an expensive Seiko GMT with white dial with blue bezel (limited edition) and my wife is watching me... lol. Great review!

So weird, I came to your video to see if I can pull off the dimensions of this watch. I have the same exact 36 mm pink Nomos, which I hardly ever see anywhere else. I have a 6 1/4 inch wrist I don’t think I can pull this off. Great watch nonetheless.

So maybe that will come very soon 😉... But I'm with you, the biggest I like to go is 40-41mm. So I was skeptical about this new 43mm. And honestly it wears amazing! If you get the chance I wouldn't shut away from trying one on, you may surprise yourself.

Great review very well said. But in terms of accuracy as good as the mechanical omega speedy is it is no competition against the lunar pilot 262 hz quartz ….it’s only gains 10 second per year vs +2 second a day.
Appreciate you watching 👊😊. And you're absolutely correct. I think as watch enthusiasts and watch nerds we geek out over gears, bridges, and movement finishes. But no doubt the quartz movement in the Lunar Pilot is more accurate just as the movement in the Speedy is a lot prettier to look at.
I find the more mechanical watches I own the less time is given per watch and as a result I’m constantly resetting the time for each one. So lately I’ve been spoil by solar watches seriously thinking of “retiring” all my mechanical watches and sticking with quartz. From a users point of view it’s pure convenience and totally enjoying the accuracy.

@@eddie-ir7ly what's up brotha! Niiiice! They are great straps. I hope you enjoy them. So, on the new lunar pilot the bracelet and the leather NATO strap are quick release. I simply took the quick release spring bars from the blue leather NATO it comes with and used those to put on the matte chevron natos on the watch. You can slide the strap through the 12 o'clock spring bar and then place the strap at the 6'oclock and simply click and put the spring bar in place over the NATO. I hope this helps a bit, and I will look into doing a quick video if possible 🙏

I love this watch. Really appreciate its significance. And it was long awaited - the downsizing. Yet, to see the white smudges on the “Bulova”.. on the B and U specifically- man, that’s turned me off. These things can make me go full OCD🤷🏼♂️
Yeah I'm with you! The new size is awesome! And it wears very nice! If I'm honest I think it was my lens or some sort of distortion. Because, to the naked eye you don't see that and it looks good. I went back and looked at other shots and I think it was something funky with my lightning or lens on that shot. I wouldn't be discouraged is what I'm trying to say. If you're in the market for one you'll love it.

Oh maaan!!! I would have to disagree lol I love the no date. I hate the current placement at the 4:30 position. I feel it just throws the dial off and it feels like an after thought.
Dont like the Silver subdial hands, it makes this watch look cheap. The white dial appearance small compared to the original black Lunar Pilot dial that blands with black inner bezel. The hand readability of the black lunar pilot is much better. I have both watches i prefer black dial
The dial printing isn't very sharp.
To the naked eye it looks good. Also I think the glare didn't help in the video. But nothing noticeable when just wearing the watch. Appreciate you watching.

Yeah, the butterfly clasp is definitely a questionable decision. Not a fan, luckily I got a good fit but that's not the case for everyone. As for the no date, that's a win in my book. Love me a good, clean, symmetrical dial. Appreciate you watching 😊👊.

what happens with sayin NATO??
TH-cam channels and videos were getting flagged for copyright strikes. Because the word "NATO" couldn't be used. Apparently the individual who owns the copyright to the word "NATO" at some point was very serious about the word lol.
