I understand people expected a big magical battle but you need to consider context. Dianna is Godess level powerful after completing the book. It's like someone who just learned Magic against the Sorceress Supreme. It was never going to be dramatic considering the power disparity between the two. A Boot doesn't fear the ant.

@@EverlifeGame I agree with both comments! Episode 7 hasn't come out for me yet so I have only seen snipets here on TH-cam. I will say her killing the other vampire with the bow it should have been done differently. She killed the first vampire that came after Matthew the same way. And this was before she tapped into her powers. So why go all the way back in time and learn all she did only for no new spells to be used? Her fire drake Corra would have been PERFECT to kill the vampire that took Matthew. I wish we could have seen Corra again. And for her Aunt killing the other witch so easily. I mean a TINY bit bigger battle was to be expected.

@@xynthar4432 yes, I think that was one of the shortcomings of the show: Not clearly translating Diana’s journey from book to screen. She went through just about everything to the point where she finally understood her role as the goddess’s “arrow”. She’s the most powerful in the room. And that’s her burden. This scene in the book had you biting your nails 😆 but for all the pages it was written on it really only took about this length of time 😆.

My problem is that they built up Satu, Peter, and Benjamin as major individual threats, Peter and Satu for the entirety of the three seasons, and all three of the one-on-one fights took a cumulative total of less than 1 minute if you discount the two stupid illusions that Satu did that Diana just brushed aside like they weren't worth her time. Yes, Diana was exceedingly powerful by the end of the series, but it is the responsibility of the writer to create flaws in her that the villains can exploit to make the final fight feel fulfilling. Here the writer just didn't. For example what if they had made it so that Satu had been a friend to Diana and had been an ally for Diana in getting the book, but after seeing some negative effect that the book was having on Diana had turned against her out of fear of what the book was doing to her. Then the final fight could have still been the same but it would feel fulfilling because Diana still had to overcome something to succeed.

A lot of people don´t understand that first of all the writer is a Historian teaching at the USC and second, a lot of the spells and inspirations she used for the witches are from Paganism and real-life Witchcraft. And Paganism is not like Marvel, there are no epic battles. The most intense thing in Paganism would be the rituals. The way Diana binds Satu´s power is exactly the way we do binding spells in real life. Also, she mentions the hand of the goddess, which is an indicator of Paganistic inspiration as well. Another thing with the spell she used to defeat Benjamin, mind you that spell actually exists. The author took inspiration from a spell that is called "Witch´s Ladder" to create the spell Diana is using. I am a practising witch and an anthropologist by education, so as a witch and an academic I love the way Deborah executes her knowledge of Paganism and Witchcraft in the book and in the show. This is even better than Charmed.

Reality is far simpler. To do as little harm as possible while fully protecting yourself and others that is the very nature of the book of life.
The book of death would have been a different story, but the simplistic approach would still have been followed. Because no one wants to admit that common sense would dictate you show as little as possible to your enemies.

Even though i overall enjoyed the show, i can't help but say how dissapointing was the last season being that rushed. I mean, we literally had a story and characters nicely built and then in the last season we get 5 episodes where the story was developing at a slow pace and then puff a huge influx of events happening during the last two episodes with the speed of lightning.
We literally found out that the guy behind everything was Benjamin in like what, episode 8(?) and his demice came in 8 seconds. There were not even words, it was just Diana completing her spell and killing him. Then we have Satu. Satu was presented as the main antagonist during the previous seasons and we had her story developed as a pretty powerful witch, who was also a weaver and who used to carefully plan all of her moves. Then, in season 3 she is literally a recurring character; all we see is extra short clips of her staring and thinking, having no objective, no plan, not even a reason to be in the series. Then she just shows up out of nowhere and having her powers developed as a spell caster and weaver, she creates a stupid illusion and goes on to battle Diana 1v1 with fire. It's as if her character went directly to garbage after 3 seasons. Diana being super powerful is no reason for a show to end in such a rushed way. Yes, eventually she would win, we all know that, but giving a total of 4 minutes for the final battle against 2 antagonists is just a pity and a complete waste of the story. There was just so much potential with all the characters and the 4 antagonists and we got a 10-minute for ALL 4 of them and they all lived happily ever after. One would expect they would go after the babies; One would expect that Gebert would take advantage of the opportunity the babies were left unprotected and fight Ysabeau to get to them instead of acting all civilized and leave voluntarily or accepting his fate when Diana convinced the others and he "lost" after centuries of organizing; One would expect that Satu would set traps for Diana; One would expect that the other characters would have any kind of participation in the ending scenes instead of being kept behind a magical wall; Out of all these characters, one would expect that at least one would end up sacrificing them for the greater good other than Em which was in the previous season.
I am pretty sure things were not supposed to develop like that. I feel that the creators had in mind there was gonna be a 4th season for sure and producers told them it ain't happening, wrap it up so they literally had to give an end within 7 episodes out of nowhere, with 4 different antagonists that needed to be dealt with. What would make sense is for Knox to be killed off before mid-season (around episode 3 or 4) and then for Satu to be the main issue until the end of the season. Then, we would have an entire 4th and last season focused on Benjamin and his ally Gebert.

Not necessarily… i mean how much of a let down was Game of Thrones? They come back from kicking the night kings ass… to stumbling over Cersei? Come tf on… the battle between the mt and his brother was rushed.
The fact that the most intense and meaningful battle happens before fighting Cersei is whack and stupid. The night king was threatening the entire world. Then Jon just lazily kills Dani and goes back to the wall.

The series was wonderful, but the ending was rushed. Satu worked so hard to gain her powers back, to have them taken away with barely the slightest struggle? The same with Benjamin. He went to all that trouble, making it seem desperate, but instead, Diana beat him in the blink of an eye. I loved the entire series, and even though the ending basically gave me the outcome that I wanted… if I had sneezed while it was playing, I would’ve missed those crucial parts. 🥺 But… let’s face it… it was a HELLUVA lot better than the ending of Game of Thrones. 🤣
